Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

QOTD Thursday, January 19: What is your "go to" healthy-ish dinner to whip up when you have little time (or energy)?

I do spaghetti (although we prefer fresh I usually have some dried in the cupboard as standby) with a tomato sauce - and seafood if I have some in the freezer. Quick, easy and fairly low calorie.

Good morning everyone! I've been reading the thread but the dis has been very slow to load on my computer and would hang up when I wanted to post. Well, weigh in day tomorrow...hmmmm. We'll see for me. I did do a 5k last night on the treadmill (DD has been waking up very early and cutting into my 5am workout time so I had to fit it in at night.) I completed it in 39:03. My goal is 37:30 for April. Have a great day with with healthy choices Team Mickey!
That is awesome!!! Great job!

QOTD Thursday, January 19: What is your "go to" healthy-ish dinner to whip up when you have little time (or energy)?

So today is my last day of coaching, and I have enjoyed coming up with questions--as well as trying to be more diligent about responding--this past week. Best of luck to
worfiedoodles in this upcoming week, and best of luck to all of us LOSERS (and maintainers)!!!:thumbsup2

Thank you for coaching! You have done a great job! Welcome Worfiedoodles!

Well, yesterday started out great. I was logging everything, and then I don't know what possessed me, I decided to go out to dinner instead of my spin class. That is so unlike me. I don't usually skip workouts, like never. But my run the previous day had been cancelled, and I guess I just got in a habit of changing my plan. I still cannot believe instead of burning calories I consumed way too many! I don't know what this is going to do to my weigh in tomorrow. Probably nothing good. I am going to try to get something on the treadmill today. Boy, oh boy! :scared1:

My go-to depends on whether I'm eating home or out, and then whether I'm eating alone or with the whole family. If I'm home and alone, I like the Annie Chun Miso or Udon bowls. Especially in the winter - they're so nice and warm! If I'm alone and out, I go to Subway for a 6" turkey, no cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, green pepper, and a little bit of honey mustard. Baked Lays if I'm having a side. :)

Home and with the whole family - we keep club packs of frozen salmon and tilapia in the freezer, so I'll toss three filets in the fridge the night before. Then I'll bake them with seasoning and steam some veggies (either fresh or frozen). If I don't have time to defrost, I'll make omelets for the crew with whatever I can find (diced lunch meat, light cheese, veggies), and I'll make mine with 1 egg and 2-3 egg whites. Out and with the whole family is either Subway, Moe's, or California Tortilla - I have good regular orders at all three places!

Today I met with the career counselor. She had plenty of great ideas and I feel really optimistic. We will be meeting again in a few weeks. I can e-mail her in between too. I have a few new ideas for job searching and will start implementing them today.

CC, am in awe of your diligence in job searching. You really have been working hard and taking great steps to find something and that is something to be really proud of. I really hope you can find something soon. :cheer2:

Well he wore them all afternoon last night and had 2 accidents. He wore a diaper last night to sleep and today during his nap. Today he used the potty all day and so far no accidents :cool1::cool1: I'm so excited at this!!
Successful potty training days always deserve a :cheer2::cheer2: !

After the accident in 2008 due to my injuries I couldn't physically bend over to tie my shoes with my feet flat on the ground. I couldn't even put my leg up on my other leg to tie them. I literally had to have people put my shoes on for me and tie them.

Well, I'm happy report starting last week I was able to sit on the edge of my couch and bend over and tie my shoes with my feet flat on the ground. I know this may seem like a really small accomplishment to a lot of people. However, for me these past 3 years there have been MANY small tasks during my every day life that have been difficult as h*ll or just downright impossible. Its a small step in the right direction.
:woohoo: I totally understand what you mean by those small steps that mean so much. When you have injures that leave you unable to do things most take for granted it is such a helpless and frustrating thing. I have a good friend here that broke her leg-- no shattered her leg!-- in an accident during the time that i was having all of my problems. We have talked about the fact that no one else really "gets it" as far as the pain, what we go through and the frustration of not being able to do what we used to. She actually asked me a lot of questions about how to deal with things both mentally and physically, after her accident. It is nice to have people that you can share with. I feel silly here sometimes when I am so excited about a one mile walk or doing something without having to use a wheelchair/scooter when others are running marathons and working out every day but I know we all just have to be happy in the place we are and it is great to have others to celebrate the NSV's with that understand. And I enjoy living vicariously with the people that are doing the races! :cheer2:

sorry i don't have time to read and catch up, just wanted to check in and let you all know i'm hanging in, really busy week and tonight i have to do a sleep study :(

QOTD -- i've really majorily cut back on my glasses of wine in the evening and i'm way proud of that :teeth:
When you are in a good place as far as eating healthy and making good choices all the time then a glass (ONE) of red wine can actually be beneficial to your health, according to many studies.

How was the sleep study?

I'm going to have to go with this past weekend. My mother-in-law's house is a notorious site of food pitfalls for me. Lots of snacks, candy for no reason, eating out, heavier cooking...and this past weekend, I was an ace tracker and came through it all on plan. I even went to the Y near her house for a workout on Saturday morning, which helped me motivate to stay on plan with food, too. In eight years of marriage (and 3 years of together before that), this was the first visit I've made there where I didn't fall off the wagon. So amazing, and it felt great.

:dance3: WTG! That is a wonderful accomplishment!

. Couldn't go right to sleep cuz had to wait for DS1 to get up for school (no first period class for him) so I could tell him that his grandpa is in the hospital. We'll find out more today. Usually this type of blood vessel blockage clears itself up. There is no treatment, just let the body do its thing.
:wizard:P&PD for a quick recovery.

QOTD Thursday, January 19: What is your "go to" healthy-ish dinner to whip up when you have little time (or energy)?

Thanks so much for coaching!

Usually I go for a salad in those cases, or a bowl of black bean soup or other type of quick throw together soup.

Hmm, not much going on today except my meeting tonight. I tried my leftover frittata with some Spaghetti Sauce this morning and while it certainly made it better it was still :crazy2:. I think the combo of overcooked and the fact that I really don't like eggs makes this unsaveable. I am going to just toss the other 2 servings. Breakfast is really becoming difficult for this WOE. Need to see what I can figure out. I may just stick with my Go Lean oatmeal every day and have to cut carbs later in the day.

Need to go WATP while I watch AI from last night. I forgot to set the DVR so I think I only have the last hour. Then I need to start gathering up my Scrapbook stuff for tomorrow, otherwise I just end up taking everything and don't get anything done!

QOTD Thursday, January 19: What is your "go to" healthy-ish dinner to whip up when you have little time (or energy)?

Well, I always have those packs of grilled chicken that are cut up in chunks or strips in my fridge. So I heat them up and throw them over a simple salad or some whole wheat pasta with a little olive oil and parmesan cheese.

Did my upper body workout on the weight machines last night, followed by 10 minutes on the crosstrainer (why can I do 1.4 miles on this in 10 minutes and it takes me twice that on the treadmill?), and then 15 minutes on the bike.
Need to get on the Wii tonight

That's awesome that you are so prepared when you go out, and at home! Way to go!

LTS: I want you to know that I find you very inspiring. You get it done, girl! And please do keep posting about your WATP. I often feel very silly posting about my running. In the "running world" (wherever that may be) my turtle 16:00 pace is laughable. To me, its a major victory, because its something I never, ever thought I would do. Thanks for all you post! I love to see stuff from you!

Seriously! I know what you mean. On my friend's elliptical, she goes for 40 minutes and it says it is 1 mile! That's nuts. The effort of 40 mins on an elliptical is like 40 mins on a treadmill, at least, and her machine says 1 mile. I don't get it, but burning calories any way we can is a good thing, right? Let's keep on keepin' on! My motto for the day!

:guilty: Didn't make my one mile on WATP. My foot was really bothering me and I can't believe it but I am sore from the last few days which is throwing my balance off. I made to somewhere between the .5 and .75 mark. I wish the video would show an little line on it the whole time so you know where you are at. Of course when I get my pedometer that will help.

Sitting in the theater waiting for The Muppeta to start. I have seen it, Alan hasn't. We got our annual passes renewed and ate a light lunch at House of Blues. I don't know if I will make the hamburger noodle casserole tonight. I am sure I will figure something out.

Oh did anyone hear about the Obamas being at Magic Kingdom today? I can imagine that park is probably crazy right now.

Just trying to catch up kind of quickly....
]QOTD #1 Monday, January 16: Today, many people are off of work and school to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday. He left such an impact on the US and the world. Did you help someone today? Make someone's life a little better, if only for a few minutes?

Well--long story short daughter made another suicide attempt early Mon. morning. We're in Oregon and she's in Albuquerque N.M. so I had to make some tough decisions which involved a welfare check, and tracing her calls to eventually get a hold of her through a friend. Spent the whole day not knowing if she was alive or not...she is finally signing her divorce papers though so I think she's finally bottomed out. Spent several hours talking to her, trying to help. I dunno-- she's 23 and this frankly, is getting old. I think she needs meds. Thanks to Obama she's on my insurance...I know they help me.

Tell of a victory in this challenge when YOU got to use some self control, too!

Just like inkedupmomma passing up the roller rink nachos, did you pass anything up and score a little mental victory recently??

I've been waiting until later to drink anything--the later I wait the less I drink.

I tried my leftover frittata with some Spaghetti Sauce this morning and while it certainly made it better it was still :crazy2:. I made a great frittata like egg thing for breakfast yesterday, just scrambled eggs really with chopped up brusell sprouts, mushrooms, cheese and sun dried tomatoes. It was pretty good. I used Johnny's seasoning salt which is really good in eggs. I've been eating the Costco whole wheat bagels--which are the only ones there without high fructose corn syrup-- with hummus. I've been mixing crushed garlic (y'know--the wet kind--) into the hummus to make it less calorie dense-- plus it's really good.

Up a pound today but was down yesterday so I think it's just water retention from the nut mix stuff I ate pretty late last night. I worked out on the elliptical for an hour yesterday, plus did all my back exercises and weight lifting. Will kill myself today also and maybe spend a little time in the sauna. Will watch salt intake tonight for weigh in tomorrow. It seems I don't want sweet stuff any more-- just want bar foody kind of stuff to snack on at night. Nuts, chips (I try to have healthy options around like pea chips, and various baked varieties of stuff...really addicted to garlic triscuits right now and this smoked gouda cheese that I try to only have very sparingly..)
I've got kiwi and satsuma oranges though so maybe I'll make a fruit salad thingy tonight and throw in some bananas and apples too.

Trying to do some research on a movie reward and have narrowed it down to Rango and Tree of Life. I've kind of been enjoying the ease of the redbox!

QOTD Sunday, January 15: On this day in 1905, composer and songwriter Allie Wrubel is born in Middletown, Connecticut. He collaborated with lyricist Ray Gilbert on the song "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" for the film Song of the South which won the Oscar for Best Song in 1947. So what song gets YOU going and pushes you to keep moving???

Lately--
Bicycle (Queen)
Hotel Room (Pitbull) This one amuses me-- I'll put it on repeat for a half hour at a time.
Wild thing, Funky cold Medina (Tone Loc)
Just about any Cars--especially Since You're Gone.
All the single ladies (Beyonce.

Old stand by's
Closer (Nine inch Nails)
I like to move it--the Madagascar version ;)
She's so high (Tal Bachman)
Control, Nasty Boys (Janet Jackson)

Etc.--I really enjoy my mp3 player on the elliptical and working out.

NSV= Non Scale Victory. And yes, I've been there with the whole dying for a chip thing. Its weird how that happens. I think it was PMS with me too. I have found these new things at the store called Special K Cracker Chips. They're 120 calories for 27 chips. They come in flavors like cheddar, southwestern (which is BBQ), and sour cream and onion. They taste just like chips! Good chips! And if you put them on a small plate, 27 of them makes a heaping plate full!

DUH.. thank you lol! That was driving me insane! I came up with some funny NSV answer!!

I have looked at those chips a few times but passed them by..not sure why now that I think of it as I LOVE carbs, and 27 is a huge serving compared to other snacks! How are the sour cream ones?? I LOVED the sour cream mini rice cakes, but my store no longer sells them :(

qotd- my quick go to meal as of lately is chicken patty parmesan. its pasta, a bit of sauce, a morning star "chickn" patty and mozzerella cheese. You could used the lower fat mozz, but I treat myself to the whole milk slice! it totals about 430 calories and can go up or down depending o n cheese and pasta quantity :)

Mickeys, I have had a terrible week. Last week was awesome and I hot the gym 6 times. This week, I went to the gym ONCE and one day of roller skating.

I have been moody and weepy and craving yucky food. I have stayed within my calories, but it has been the hardest thing ever to do!

I pretty much had an emotional breakdown today on my DBF and I am still not sure why the heck that happened!

I'm having a sad this week and I hate it!i don't think I have gained anything and by calories alone I should lose at least a pound by tomorrow, but I do not feel a pound less.

I should be getting my friend tomorrow or Saturday, so I'm terrified to weigh myself at all! Not to mention, I pinched a nerve 3 nights ago and it has been a literal pain in my neck and lower portion of the back of my head. Then to top it off, I had the start of a crown put on today...oof.

OK.. I'm done whining!

Another question I have is, Melinda mentioned special k crackers as a yummy snack, what other low cal snacks do you all enjoy? I've kinda had an OD on 100 cal pop corn lol!

Thanks for listening Mickeys! Wish me luck with getting to the gym tomorrow!

50sjayne- Hugs to you, my dear! I will be praying for you and your daughter!

Hello to everyone!

This day ended up being a complete and total bust! I did do 1 massage out of 3 today and did the 2 mile WATP this afternoon. I'm good on calories so maybe it's not a total loss.

Hopefully I will be down tomorrow. I just poured myself a Crystal Light lemonade so maybe I will just have that instead of something bad for me. I ahve had a lot of water today and that always helps me.

Sending girls off to bed shortly and then going to straighten up my living room and dining room. Friends coming over to do more of our cruise planning tomorrow night. Will probably order pizza and subs. I'm going to try and just have shakes during the day tomorrow and hopefully leave work at noon or sooner. No clients scheduled for tomorrow so I will just have to wait and see.

Decided that my next continuing ed class for massage will be maternity massage. I did one tonight and really want a refresher as it's a pleasure to make someone in this stage of life feel better. I am going to complete my reflexology course in the next month. I just have to review, watch the DVD and take an online exam. I really enjoy reflexology.

Enough rambling. I left my drink in the kitchen so I will get off the computer now.

TTFN :tigger:

QOTD Thursday, January 19: What is your "go to" healthy-ish dinner to whip up when you have little time (or energy)?

Michele -- Thank you for the fabulous job coaching! I hope that "bump" is yours! :goodvibes

My "go to" dinner is seasonal -- soup in winter, salad in summer -- and one of the other depending on how cold I am in fall and spring :rotfl:

Wonderful QOTDs this week, Thanks Again, Michele!

 Thank you. I am so in awe of what you are doing and love to hear about it. Even before my physical issues I was never one to exercise. DH started running and was doing some 5Ks and at one point I thought about trying to join him with that. He is doing one next month, but not sure how many more he will be able to do. He is having knee problems from the impact of running. He has taken up Spinning at the gym now instead and is loving that. I think he is insane!:rotfl:

 I hope things get better and your daughter listens to the wise advice of her mom.

I have been getting Arnold Dutch Country Whole Wheat bread and it doesn't have HFCS. I like a piece of that with peanut butter for a quick breakfast or for a snack when I am feeling a carb low. The hummus sounds good with garlic added.

Mickeys, I have had a terrible week. Last week was awesome and I hot the gym 6 times. This week, I went to the gym ONCE and one day of roller skating.

:hug::hug: A few extra hugs-- my rule is that the few days before, the week of and the few days after I do NOT weigh in. I do my best to stay on track but if I weigh in when I am already emotionally unstable and see that gain-- and I do gain because I retain water like crazy-- I will just lose it and eat everything in the house. I already have a hard time controlling the cravings.

So you didn't get to the gym as much as you wanted this week. The great news is that next week is a brand new week and you get to start all over again! You can't have perfection, just try your best with what you have, put it behind you and move on.

:cheer2::cheer2: for the gym tomorrow and for a MUCH better week next week. :cheer2::cheer2:

Got through my first end of week challenge. Ate before I went to my meeting at the Mexican restaurant so I was full. Still wasn't sure if I could resist the chips and salsa but I got very lucky-- the restaurant was packed (DUH, I could have told them that would happen!) so we left and went to a cafe/grill type place down the street. There wasn't anything there to tempt me! I told my friend I might steal a few of her fries but when her food came they didn't look all that great and certainly not good enough to waste some carbs and fat on.

So tomorrow I face the Krispie Kreme donuts. Send all the will power pixie dust you have my way! Going to have a big healthy breakfast so I will be too full to be tempted. I probably won't be on here at all tomorrow because I am scrapbooking all day after I leave the school.

So everyone have a great Friday and an especially happy, healthy and ON PLAN weekend!:cheer2:

Hello Mickey Mouse Club! :mickeyjum I'm going to post the QOTD tonight, so we can hear from our early risers!

:welcome: to another fantastic week at the BL Challenge! I am Maria, and I will be your coach.

Friday QOTD: Let’s start with a fun one: Disney’s newest resort, the Art of Animation, is opening later this year. The sections have larger than life characters and scenes that put you in the movies. The Lion King, Cars, Finding Nemo, and The Little Mermaid are brought to life in vivid, exciting areas both inside and outside the rooms. You are going to be dropped into one of the movie sections – where would you fit right in and why?

Remember to send your weights to Sue, our weightkeeper at dvccruiser76, and include Team Mickey in the subject line!

And who could forget to send their HH points to CC, at cclovesdis?!

I have a long run tomorrow morning, so I'll be back early in the afternoon with replies!

It's Gonna Be A Good Week!

Maria :upsidedow

Healthy Habits Week 4: The Voyage of the Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is the first Disney movie I remember watching. It was at a slumber party. If there is one thing I like about Ariel, it is that she gets what she wants and does so to fulfill her dream. In the spirit of Ariel, think of our weight loss journeys as a voyage and our dream as our ideal weight.

This week’s 4 Habits are:

1. We all know that Ariel lives “Under the Sea.” In honor of the water in the sea, Your “habit” is to drink a total of 64 oz. of water during the day. You can count up to 8 oz. of tea or coffee toward your total for the day.

2. Ariel has a knack for knowing just which “gizmos and gadgets” she has. You need to know what you’ve eaten for the day. A quick check of your journal will help you know how many calories, points, etc. you can safely eat for the day. Recording what one eats and portion control are huge in weight loss and valuable habits to have. This week, write down everything you eat as well as the portion size AND one nutritional aspect. (Example: I had ½ cup of plain uncooked oatmeal, cooked in ½ cup of nonfat milk, with 1 tablespoon of walnuts and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and that totals 350 calories.)

3. You don’t have to eat seaweed, but you do need veggies in your diet. This week, your “habit” is to have 5 servings of veggies and fruit total each day. Use your plan to determine what counts as a serving.

4. If swimming doesn’t count as exercising, I don’t know what does. Spend 15 minutes or more exercising each day. Note: This can be five minutes of strength training before breakfast and 10 minutes of cardio after dinner or 15 minutes of a leisurely walk around a park or a game of Frisbee with your kids. Yoga counts too. Please do not feel like every workout needs to be high-intensity.

Mini-Challenges

1. Your “Voyage” So Far: Write down 3 positive changes you have made since January 1, 2012.

2. In honor of Ariel’s wedding, eat cake. This mini-challenge is about dessert. On at least one day, fit a dessert (your definition) into your calories, points, etc. for the day.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions or ask on the thread!

Hi, Maria, I'll answer tonight while I'm still coach for 2 more hours, lol:rotfl:

I would love it in the Finding Nemo section. Because I am very Dori-like--I guess because I have a lot going on in my life between my teaching job, kids' schools & kids' needs, dad & his needs, house, church, gym, etc.... Plus I LOVE the Nemo musical at AK, we see it whenever we're there. Cool question!

I HAVE to report an NSV today. I've been jogging at a run 1 or 2 min/walk 1 minute interval for 30-35 min. I'd cover a little over 2 miles doing that including the warm up & cool down (like a 14.5 min mile). Today I was wiped out. Didn't want to go to gym. But did. And on the treadmill, as I started my first "run 1 minute," I just sort of decided to see how long I could run for. Slowed the TM down a notch or two and cranked the DIS podcast and just went. 10 minutes. 15 minutes! Ok, maybe I'll just try to get to 20 min. Um, I'm at like 1.6 miles, maybe I'll just see if I can get to 2 miles... And I did! I ended up jogging with no walk breaks for 25 minutes! :yay::banana::cool1::woohoo::dance3:Took a 1 minute walk break, ran the last 4 minutes, and cooled it down for a few min.

A little peeved that I burned fewer calories than run/walking though:rolleyes1 but gratified to see that my little run 1 or 2/walk 1 is paying off!

Hi Maria - thanks for coaching! :thumbsup2

I think I'd have to go with The Little Mermaid because I love to sing! I love the music from all the films, but I especially love how it's such a big part of the storyline in The Little Mermaid.
