Team Hakuna Matata - MAY Thread!

Did 2 miles today split with 1 mid afternoon and 1 this evening!

It sure does feel awesome to be walking again!!!

Erica:)

YEA!!! My princess is one day closer to being back to getting back to her racewalking training.

We are going sub 6 hours at the January Marathon, I have high hopes for her full recovery and coming back stronger than ever.

Today was good but tiring. Tomorrow will be a little faster pace, today I cruised 4 miles on the hills at a 13 min pace for my easy day pace, also marathon pace for Erica and I.

Everyone have an awesome evening.

Hi all!

Been busy trying to research training programs and playing with new running websites (love mapmyrun.com) so haven't been on too much.

Scott - Thanx for the support on monitoring DD computer use. I've been meaning to buy net nanny but haven't had a chance yet, so now I just lurk!
Great race report!

Kristen - Congrats on getting out there and doing a 5K

Villians rock and Scott - I'll have to check out those wines. I've succombed
to the wine in box - Fish eye or 1.5L of Barefoot. Leaves more money for WDW:lmao:

Erica: welcome back to training!

We finally had Nice weather in New england this past weekend. Managed to put the top down on the convertible!

I maanged to rack up over 20 miles last week. I know I need to start some more strength and flexibility training, but haven't quite figured out what to do. So for now, I alternate between walking 2-4 miles one day, and jog/walking it the next. However, after a day of rest on Sat, I did manage to jog for 20 minutes non stop. A new record! Ultimately, I really don't want to do long range jogging - concerned about injuries - but I'd love to get into a 9 minute jog, 2 minute walk that I can maintain for longer distances.

Villains rock - I hope to do the 1/2 marathon. I contacted one of the charity groups but they had a $3500 fundraising base - I think they said they need to raise enough to pay all the expenses. I don't want my expenses paid. I'm going to check out some of the other groups.

HAve a great week everyone!

Hi Everyone!

Just a quick drive-by.... I am keeping my grandchildren this week. Talk about a full time job...this is definitely it. So, if I don't post much it's because they have me too too busy.

My DD is having a surgery on Friday and because her DH works on location in the gas field 24/7, she will be doing her recovery here with us. She won't be able to drive for at least 3 weeks. So, it just makes more sense.

I will definitly be keeping up with the team stuff and reading the posts, but probably not much time for comments. As a matter of fact....gotta run now! TTFN!

Box wine is ok really, it is not bad at all. I don't drink much and it stays fresher.

Good Morning Team!

Erica - congrats on the walks - you are really making progress! :woohoo:

Dave - I guess I will not be keeping up with you in the Marathon, I am hoping to maintain a 15 min mile pace, but I will be lucky to keep up the 16 for that distance! My fastest so far was the Atlanta ING half, at a 13:55 pace, but it was really cool, which I think helped my maintain that fast a pace.

Connie - have fun with the grandkids!

Another dreary day here - rain, fog and wind! It is supposed to be a little warmer than yesterday (45 degrees), today should be about 55 degrees! The weather people keep saying it will get nicer, but this weather system causing the clouds and rain just won't move! We need a nice weekend to do the landscaping we need to get done to prevent more flooded window wells in the basement! After we finish that, we will get back to working on the basement.

Yesterday I did get a Pilates tape in, and a short walk with the dogs later in the afternoon, after the rain stopped. Maybe I will be able to do the same today. I am also expecting a house guest next week, so this week is a major house cleaning regime! It took most of the day yesterday to clean up the guest room because that is also my "packing room", so it was full of suitcases and the bed was covered with left overs from the last couple trips that I had never gotten put away.

Have a great day everyone!

Lynn we go at Erica's pace for the races not mine. With her healing issues and rehab this year a 15 pace for the marathon is very realistic, we might be able to stay close and share the experience.

I had a nice gym workout this mornng. 3 miles with the last mile 12 mpm, then an hour in the pool doing high step sprints in the 5' deep end. I finished with a stretching routine in the water, hitting most of the muscle groups.

Have a super day everyone.

:yay: :yay:

Hi Everyone!

I’ve been MIA in the living room doing the reno thing. Can I tell you how much removing wallpaper sucks? OMG it took forever, then we had to make sure the paste is all gone too. Then Denise had a bright idea, let’s sand the floor and redo that too!

2 weekends and it’s still not done, we haven’t even starting painting as we’re still prepping the walls, patch, sand etc.

I honestly was so tired on Sunday night when I got in the shower, I felt as bad as when I took my shower after the ½ marathon.

Monday, we celebrated my son Nick’s b-day he turned 28 on mother’s day but this was the only opportunity we could all be together. Miranda made him a Pirate ship cake – not only was it cool it tasted GREAT. I will post pictures later.

This morning, still tired but feeling guilty about not walking not only for the team but for myself. Had a cup of coffee and looked at the clock, it was 6:06 am. If I could get dressed and out the door by 6:15 I could do 3 miles and still have enough time to shower, and get to work. YUP off I went. It was GREAT. A bit chilly this morning in the low 50’s but I’m used to that. Made it back in plenty of time to shower, dress even do my hair and makeup. Soooooooooo, I’ll be back at it tomorrow morning and log miles for the team!!!

Hope all is well, I am not reading posts till I get home tonight since I am currently at work but was so excited to be able to update my siggie with time AND miles.

I did a really good 2 mile walk with Ayla my wonder lab. I don't know time or pace, but it felt a little faster than yesterday.

Erica:)

How great is that!! So good to get out and enjoy the day.

A little progress every day!

Way to go!

I'm proud of my pretty princess Erica. She has a ways to go but there is no dought in my mind that she will come back stronger than ever before.

Denise welcome back princess.

Today is a new day and a new chance.

To often we are slaves to the choices we made in the past, our weight and fitness today is a direct result of the choices we made in our past. We can start changing that today, just because we made some bad choices before has no bearing on what we can do with our future.

I challange everyone to put the past behind them and make our present and future choices for health and happiness. Choose to be fit, choose to be healthy and choose to be happy.

Ok I'm shuting up now and heading for the gym. I have some new music on my iPod so I'm ready to boogy.

Good Morning Team!

Way to go Erica!!!

Today is a beautiful day, sunny, 50 degrees, and no wind (of course, the wind will pick up as I am dressing for my walk, it always does - but the wind in warm weather is not as bad as wind in cold weather), high should be 75 degress today. I am afraid that I did not do much exercise yesterday, I got side tracked by my house cleaning and laundry (seems like alot of laundry this week!), so, we just got a short loop (1.25 miles) walk in when Scott got home. Today I will make up for it and get in (hopefully) a 6 mile walk. The grass needs to be mowed very badly, we missed last week because of rain. It may be dry enough to mow by this afternoon.

Dave - I might try to keep up with you for the marathon. I am still in the stage of "why did I sign up for this?", which will probably last until after the marathon!

Scott passed his physical yesterday, and has the physical fitness testing today. He was not worried, he is in better shape than at least half the others he works with!

I, again, just realized that I forgot to post hours last night, Connie, I will get right on that! Actually, I do not know Scott's time from the race, so I will get that from him tonight, and post hours tonight!

Have a great day everyone!

Lynn, yes please plan on us staying together for the marathon. I will be pacing Erica for a 15 min mile average.

I had a super good morning workout. I did the 4.5 miles from the health club to the top of the WKU hill and back. With the first mile being a slower warm up mile I averaged 12:29 mpm. total time was 56:09. This was the route I PRed on last week with a 54:35. But on PR day I warmed up on the treadmill for a half mile before heading out. Today the warm up was averaged in, so pace was pace for the last 3.5 miles was probably around the low 12 range.

I'm feeling very strong and the healthy eating for Erica and I both is going great.

Walk/run strong y'all.

Oops, I am sorry Connie I forgot to PM you mine & Erica's Time & Miles last night too! Truly not an excuse but it this holiday thing it really messed with my training schedule. :rolleyes1

Will have to add my PT test in for time and miles. The only part that I hate to do is a 300m sprint, I am not fast, just steady and can make it for a long haul, heck why sprint they give us radios and cars. LOL

Actually I am in better shape that several of the younger guys LOL prob in the top 1/4 of the agency. That is scarry, LOL

We get 1/2 a day off after PT so home to mow the lawn before we have to rent some goats to keep the jungle in control. The we got the second coat of mud on the basement bedroom, might get to texture it this weekend, that would be good.

We were going to do a winnie roast tonight but the wind is picking up and our fire ring location would put the smoke in the direction of the house. so the Grill will have to do.

Enjoy the evening

Well...my training has been going great. I haven't missed a beat and I'm trucking right along. I'm on a steady schedule for the Akron Half in September then I ramp it up for the marathon. Is it unreaslitic that I can train for a marathon in 30 weeks? I started two weeks ago...that makes 30 right? My dad (ex-runner) said that he thinks I should just stick to doing some local halves this year then maybe shoot for a full in 2010. It was discouraging and now I'm questioning if I can really do it. :confused3

Also...I was interested in some past race reports. Do any of you have links to one that you may have written?

Denise - We moved last spring and the wallpsper in the bedroom and office STILL aren't done. I feel your pain. I got so sick of stripping, patching and painting that after we got all of the "common areas" done I just needed a break. That break hasn't ended...lol!

Dave - Thanks for the words of encouragement!!

Erica - I know I'm a newbie, but I'm assuming you had an injury or surgery that you are recovering from? Sounds like you are making progress though. Keep up the good work!!

Connie - I am keeping your DD in my prayers today. Pixie dust for a quick recovery! :wizard:

Go to DisneyRunning.com you will find lots of pics and race reports rom every Disney race from every year.

Erica stayed up to late last night chatting with a friend who was passing through and stayed the night. So I'll answer for her on the surgery.

She had bunion surgery on both feet and the Dr also corrected her flat feet, she has a nice arch now. She is a racewalker who loves the half, full and goofy distances. We will however just be doing the full to give her more chance to heal up properly. Last year she did the Disney Marathon, the Flying Pig Half in Cincinnati, the ToT and this year the Goofy challange. Her bunions had gotten to where they hurt all the time so it was time to get them corrected. Her PR for walking a half is 2:45. She did the Pig half which is major mountian climbing in 3:11 but she had a 15 min potty stop because of the crowds at the porta potties on the course.

As for me I forgot my watch this morning so I explored a new route. I have a new 4 mile route, round trip from my health club.

Walk/run strong y'all.

Hagen & I did get in a 4.6 mile walk yesterday. It sprinkled but did not actually rain so after he left I did a short 10.25 miles on my bike.

Going to the musical 'Little Women' tonight so the gym time is being bumped to Saturday morning - that bumps the Saturday morning 6 plus mile walk to :confused3 Life Happens!

Way to Go, Sweet Erica!

Connie, are we doing the Time & Miles just to the end of May. Do you want us to report Thursday May 29th; Friday May 30th; Saturday May 31st - separated from the start of June 1st on Sunday?

Margie - Just realized you are from Michigan! I'm a forner Michigander myself. I was born in Detroit and grew up in the Ann Arbor area!!

Portage is a lovely area!!
