So when are they sending you to Toronto?
Tell me your exact job title Kat - nephew (Jean's but was mine sort of deal) is trying to make decisions about where to go to in IT. Talk to me like I'm a four year old.
I'm so excited to hear all about it. Good for you Kat. Exciting! Truly - I'm sighing with envy with the brand new all the time and the travel.
Toronto is not out of the question! I need to get a passport, though.
I am very excited about the travel and the brand new all the time, and just doing something different. I've been kind of bored in the last few years. Different jobs, but always the same, if that makes any sense. This will present a new challenge every year or so and I am hoping that will keep it fresh and interesting.
What is he doing for qualifications? I have an undergraduate degree in Computer Science as well as almost 15 years experience now. Titles have been everything from Developer to Programmer/Analyst to Software Engineer, which all really mean computer programmer. In the last 3-5 years all positions have either had "Senior" or "Lead" in the title, as I passed the 10 year mark.
Specifically, currently anyhow, I am a Java programmer that specializes in web application development. I am the person that makes a website work. Not the person that makes it pretty!
If you push a button on a website and it saves or loads information? That's me. However, IT can mean anything from support/help desk, to network or systems administrators, to programmers or project managers.
What I do definitely pays well and is (obviously) in very high demand here. In fact, most of the recruiting firms are now offering between 1K and 4K just for a referral bonus if you send someone their way.

Did you see Nancy?
I did download Google Chrome on my own.

But he'll do just fine. In fact, I have friends that took the college route and are way more successful/make more than me. So whatever. But he did say computer programming - so I'm very excited to let him know about your career for whatever it's worth. And by the way I think my sister does exactly your job (but she doesn't have a degree in Computer Science). I had no idea what she actually did until you explained it and then it finally sunk in - Lisa has been educated by the Kit Kat.
That's great news!
One month... I'm not sure I'll ever be ready for it.
. And hockey? In south Florida? Not so much.
Oh, and side note: the kid's softball coach quit since he was told his other kid who was actually coaching the team (very softball smart but just yelled at the girls all game long), wasn't allowed in the dugout any more. So now the DH is the head coach and has some great backup from his assistant coaches. Maybe we can actually end up winnning more than two games this season
. They had an actual practice last night with drills, and basics, and all that good stuff, instead of an hour and a half of a 13 year-old screaming at them the whole time.
