Team Focker Watch, Part 12. Have we jumped the shark yet?

Ugh, ask T - I've been back and forth, back and forth. In general, I don't like the idea of vaccinating for the flu, but mostly because I believe in building better immunity and worry that over-vaccinating on a wide scale is creating badder bugs. The H1N1 is so new to our collective systems, I think Leo will get the vaccine. I can't due to major allergic reactions to flu shots in the past. Did you know they all have MSG in them? My Dr. was convinced I have an egg allergy based on my reactions, but when I found out about the MSG it clicked - I'm very, very allergic to MSG! :scared1:

I was just going to email you about this! Found some better info. on the mist, per the actual vaccine's labeling... it's a weakened virus and can't live in anything warmer than the nostrils, so it can bring about congestion and maybe a low-grade fever, but can't actually cause the flu. Also, people who've had the mist can't spread the virus to anyone except those with majorly compromised immune systems (read: HIV or chemo patients.) NOW I get why Leo's Dr. thinks it okay for him to do the mist, IF I'm right there with the emergency inhaler. Apparently, it's not good for chronic asthmatics because it can induce an asthma attack; Leo's asthma is only allergy-induced so it's not likely to hit him.

All that to say... I've left the decision to fate, lol! I signed the release for him to get it at school, with whichever form they wind up with. Assuming they ever get it at all. So we'll see...

Ugh! :sad2:

OMG, I had one, too last night! Awful. :headache: Maybe it's these weather changes lately? Glad you're feeling better!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3 days, 3 days!!! :yay: Time to get things done - the forecast keeps changing, so I need to pack more stuff so we'll have options. Need to hit the grocery store, do laundry, and check the levels in my travel cosmetics.
Had a lousy riding lesson last night; I'm thinking of either taking a break altogether or going back to my old barn. :sad1:
Well, I'll tell that to mom too--she's allergic to MSG AND the flu shot and that may explain why! (She had a three year rash on her back after her last flu shot)
+++++++++++++++
Well, after struggling with the shot decision....apparently they won't give it to me or my kids anyway. :mad: The school did it today....IF you were under 3rd grade.........the health dept is O-U-T of their allotment from VA....I did talk to one of the doctors at the nursing home...she said our elderly folks were at low risk--many people who lived in the 70s got exposed and are immune...that being said---I have 2 nurse friends out now with it......and MANy out at the schools. BA has a good friend---13 yo healthy football player---got H1N1 3 weeks ago....then bronchitis...then pneumonia...then cracked a rib....:sad2:He's really sick.
The doctor said to get the kids done if I could get it (they have asthma too) but they were at less risk of dying than the under 6 crowd.
Hard to know what to do...and even harder when you decide and still can't do it! :rolleyes:
Will do and wow you're a cleaning queen today :thumbsup2
::yes:: Cleaned my kitchen and dining room. Changed the curtains in both rooms. I didn't get the pantry done though:sad2: Ran out of time. I have to grab a shower, then go to Jimmy's doctor and pick up a script, run to the store, and then pick Jimmy up. I have hit a stopping point and will do the pantry, the living room and the powder room tomorrow.
Hard to know what to do...and even harder when you decide and still can't do it! :rolleyes:
Jimmy's pediatrician hasn't got it in yet. They started yesterday giving it out at school, but he needs the shot!
I'm going to go up and read!:thumbsup2
Watcha reading?
Then I am completely breaking down and cleaning my kitchen and hopefully the dining room and the poweder room. That depends on how long it takes to do the kitchen.
You’re a cleaning machine!:laundy:
I have to pick Jimmy up tomorrow after school because Jim will be working until 8:00. He has interim report card conferences.
So, how did he do????
Crazy day today! Went to the gynie this morning, hit Target and Weirdmart, grocery (AGAIN!)
Weirdmart :rotfl2::rotfl2:
It all starts again tomorrow. Oh joy. I have to get a TB test tomorrow (required to volunteer at the school) and get some things for the Chemo tote bag the kids are putting together for my SIL with cancer. It's really a cute idea Kate shared with me. We bought a tote bag (lime, of course ;)) and the kids decorated it. We bought things she might need/want during her treatment: ginger chews, lotion, lip balm, journal w/ pen, tissues, a small plushie, fuzzy socks, a scarf for her head, etc. I can't wait to give it to her on Saturday.
Awww, I bet she’ll really appreciate it – the stuff AND the love that went into it.:hug:
I'm up & trying to make my ADRs, but of course the stupid system is down from the huge amount of people trying to get in. :headache:
Grrrrr:headache:
Good morning. :goodvibes Last night I had the worst headache ever. Mitch says it may have been a migraine. All I know is that I wanted to cut my head off. Thankfully today I feel much better since I have lots to do.
Ouch! Thank goodness you feel better!
3 days, 3 days!!! :yay: Time to get things done - the forecast keeps changing, so I need to pack more stuff so we'll have options. Need to hit the grocery store, do laundry, and check the levels in my travel cosmetics.
Woo hoo! :cool1: Too bad about the lesson! I hope things work out!
Another beautiful day here, we've just played some golf and now we're wasting the good day indoors :sad2: Ellie had to be picked up from her sleepover last night as she'd been sick, luckily it was only next door. She then projectile vomitted a coupld more times in the toilet, honestly it was violent :eek: but slept fine and is great now, maybe something she ate?
Poor baby, hope it’s all out of her system and she’s feeling better!:hug:
P.S.: Leo wants to see his "big-girl friends Jessica and Ellie"! He told me this morning.
How cute is that!:lovestruc
GOt my refrigerator cleaned. On to the micro and toaster oven!:thumbsup2
Like I said, cleaning MACHINE! Do that toaster oven good – Sunday I was heating up some chicken in mine and it caught on FIRE!!! :scared1:Luckily, I was able to just blow it out. I think I’ll do a better job of cleaning it from now on!
--------------------
Have a great Tuesday evening everyone. I’m thrilled I don’t have to spend mine at Best Buy looking at new laptops!
Watcha reading?
Trashy romance novels;)
You’re a cleaning machine!:laundy:[/QUOTE[
:thumbsup2
So, how did he do????
I don't know how many parents showed up. I will find out when he gets home around 9:00.
Like I said, cleaning MACHINE! Do that toaster oven good – Sunday I was heating up some chicken in mine and it caught on FIRE!!! :scared1:Luckily, I was able to just blow it out. I think I’ll do a better job of cleaning it from now on!
OK, now you have me questioning whether I did a good enough job:scared1:
Have a great Tuesday evening everyone. I’m thrilled I don’t have to spend mine at Best Buy looking at new laptops!
Great news:thumbsup2
======================
Picked the script for OT up from Jimmy's doctor, stopped at CVS to pick up a bag of candy for his Halloween party on Friday (That's what I was assigned), picked Jimmy up from aftercare, came home did homework, made dinner, played Power Rangers and am now getting ready to get Jimmy into the shower and bed...I'm tired ::yes::
Evening all !! Sad news ...my April/May tripis off !! I will still be going in 2010 but am back to a solo trip!! Christine had something unexpected come up and has had to cancel !!! Now I am back to the drawing board and still deciding when to go!!
Hey, guys...
I read along last night, but didn't quote. Today was a little nutty - more on that, so I think I only have quote since last time I checked in.
I'm almost afraid to say it but.....THE LAPTOP'S WORKING!!!
Woohoo!
I can't wait to give it to her on Saturday.
That's so nice of you. :hug:
All that to say... I've left the decision to fate, lol! I signed the release for him to get it at school, with whichever form they wind up with. Assuming they ever get it at all. So we'll see...
We have not got ANY in schools around here. None. Mind you, NH is much lower in the rate as opposed to southern states, but...
I have an appointment for Nov. 13th at the pediatrician for "normal flu" shots, but we can't even get H1N1. Sigh.
Had a lousy riding lesson last night; I'm thinking of either taking a break altogether or going back to my old barn.
I'm sorry, hon. :hug:
but slept fine and is great now, maybe something she ate?
Are you at all worried about the flu over there? Just since we're talking about it... I'm glad she feels better now.
Today should be the day the round 3 Moms Panel get told and I desperately need to know, you all know I'm nosy
Well??? popcorn::
I did talk to one of the doctors at the nursing home...she said our elderly folks were at low risk--many people who lived in the 70s got exposed and are immune...that being said---I have 2 nurse friends out now with it......and MANy out at the schools. I saw the 60 Minutes report on it last week. Apparently this strain is related to the great epidemic in 1912 and another in the 30's? Anyway, they said that it's why it's not getting the elderly as the flu usually tends to do. Anyone born before 1950 has natural immunity.
Here in NH, they're apparently only giving it to pregnant women right now, then they'll go to the under 6 crowd, and then see what they have left. :headache:
I woke up with a headache and did actually go back to bed for a bit. When I got up, thinking I'd finish the last grade level stapling of Book Fair stuff, the phone rang. My co-chair's lunch got canceled, and so she wanted to meet earlier. I quickly finished up the stapling and headed for school.
We got there, then my co-chair (luckily, I guess) caught the PATT (our version of PTA, it's Parents and Teachers Together) president and asked a question about the initial kick-off night for the Fair, which was supposed to be a Principal's Story Hour.
We just wanted to know if we were to sell books or just have them out as a teaser.
She goes into hyper-drive, they don't think there IS a Principal's Story Hour. The principal's secretary went to look - she still thought it was on - but it was erased from the master calendar. We talked to the ***'t principal, and she said, "Oh, I think I put it on as an idea, but we took it off fairly early." Yes, but apparently AFTER I'd been in the first full week of school to verify dates.
So, I had over 400 copies of an info sheet talking about that first night as opening night. Stapled to 3 other sheets a piece, and specific to each classroom. :headache::headache::headache:
I don't have enough flyers from Scholastic to redo them all - I'd have to unstaple every packet, then redo every packet - something that took three hours to do the first time.
So, we ended up just using a Sharpie and crossing out that one date, but then it looks idiotic - like I don't know what I'm doing. The president was ticky, thinking we were going to get a lot of calls on "Why did we cancel story hour?" but they need to go out by tomorrow. I don't know how they got by the Principal - who should know that he wasn't having a story hour - but they did. I don't know how I managed to get the dates before they changed their mind, but they didn't.
Anyway, I was at school forever with my Sharpie, and then I got home and took the kids to tennis. I did a pretty hard workout and felt better mentally, but now I'm wheezy and have a cough.
I have my first official tennis match tomorrow morning, so I need to go to bed. I'll check in after!
I hope you've all had a good day, and get a good start to tomorrow!:grouphug:
Sorry everyone- Just a quick poke in to say hi! We had a nutso weekend with a big wedding, which was over the top, no detail left out. Tomorrow I have an interview! I'll let you know more after. Just so you all know, I still have a crazy stalker. She is reading this... I know it! :sad2: I have been trying to keep as much personal stuff of of here as possible. She really is a strange girl... (yes! YOU know who you are!) I was hoping I'd loose her, but on inspection of my user information, each time I log in, I see she has looked at my profile info/threads subbed - DAILY! :scared1: Maybe I should take it as a compliment?
That is VERY creepy. I just dont understand it. :confused3 I had a friend whos mom had a stalker and their whole family had to sell their cars and switch stuff around. Same thing happened to a guy i work with. I can tell he's still a little freaked out/upset about it.
:hug:Ill be praying for you
Happy vamping hours all!
CE and T - LIFE LESSONS "Nothing is ever free and people can be real jerks."
TE says Bear is getting a lot of affection after they all watched Marley and Me.
DH and I are the same way. We lost our favorite doxie and can't bare to see any dog mistreated or dieing. It just breaks our hearts all over again.
JO says the kitty doesn’t like to use a dirtied litter box. They have had fabulous weather!
Our cats won’t let one stay clean. Doug gets so mad because as soon as he dumps it and puts in the fresh litter, Storm goes right over and poops it up again.:rotfl2:
It’s been raining here.:sad2:
V had a headache. She is looking forward to Halloween at WDW!
I hope you have a blast!
ROSIE took Kyle to the dentist. She says that Judy is being offered a stay-at-home, salaried job. Rosie is canceling the May trip.
That is fantastic for Judy. I hope it is as good as it sounds. Good for her!!! Did you get to sleep in yesterday?
JANET has an appointment for Jimmy. The ped thinks he may have a sensory disorder.
Poor Jimmy. I can’t imagine how it makes him feel at times. I am so glad that he is doing so well in school. It has to be very challenging for him. He’s quite the little trooper!
DENISE says the new power cord fixed the laptop.
:banana:
T put together a care package/tote for her SIL that has cancer.
That’s a great idea! She will so appreciate it! I hope you have fun at DLR!!!!!!!
DAWN was trying to get to her ADRs. The system was overloaded! She was up since 4AM. The 180 day switch has taken it’s toll! She’s planning the Lego party for the end of Nov.
So are you up early again????
ANGELA came down with the big headache too!!!
OMG, what’s going on. Mine lasted exactly 24hrs. I didn’t have a fever. Just a lot of sinus drainage. I figured it was just an allergy overload. :confused3
CE's least favorite implement is a Sharpie. She also woke up with a headache and now has a cough!
Put down the Sharpie and get to bed. Communication is so simple and yet it’s importance is overlooked so much. Very frustrating!
JV interviews for a job. She has an admirer.:eek:
Good luck with both issues. Now we are all going to go look at your profile. J/K!!!
I'm home for 3 nights, well OK 2 and half now. I need to figure out what I am going to wear in 1 month, 1 week and 1 day. I've still got all the summer stuff in the suitcases. I'm taking a couple of hoodies. Also a couple of pairs of pants for the evenings. I just need to figure out which stuff looks OK together. Lord knows I am such a fashionista!
Winter09001-1.jpg
:rotfl2:
I also have to get the park hours posted at Enchanted. That takes time to get them all entered.
Today I am cleaning, I think. Then cooking up some brats with sour krout and green beans for dinner! Yep, I got my $111 brats yesterday. Merry Christmas to me and Doug. :santa:
Did I tell you guys that because of delaying my trip, I am now only working 4 days in December!?:rotfl: I was already taking vacation from the 20th to Jan. 3rd. I probably won't want to go back. Of course when I do get back I will be working for Evonik. :goodvibes
OK time to get to work on the calendar stuff.
I hope everyone has a good day!
Tell me about it. I have been out since August 7th. Go back Monday.
----------------------------------------------------------
Good morning all! Another carppy rainy day here:sad2: I am doing more cleaning today. Living room and powder room that I didn't get to yesterday. Then I have to take some books back to the library. I am picking JImmy up from school today. Tonight is his school's Halloween McDonald's Night Fundraiser. The school gets a percentage of the profits of anything sold between 4pm and 7pm. The kids wear their costumes, the teachers have treats for them AND I don't have to cook dinner:rolleyes1. It gets crowded, but the kids have a good time!:thumbsup2
Hope everyone has a great day.
Ooh, that's cool! :)
Janet - my mom had some kids through her teaching years with SID. They can do a lot with some OT type stuff. One of the things she did was "brush" a kid - every day, for maybe 3 minutes, she'd brush his arms and torso with a stiff brush. Somehow, it helped calm and focus him - and got him used to sensation. Also, she'd "push in" his joints, like just very lightly push both parts of his arms together at his elbows, etc. Something in the brain made that help him feel centered and less scattered. :confused: But, for what it's worth, that was years ago and they've done a lot since, and even then she knew it was helping.
One of my twin group twins has it as well, and you'd never know, after she's done some OT and stuff. :thumbsup2
But, I'd say that I know Jimmy's having such a great year - my guess would be if he DOES have it, it's mild. :goodvibes
Jen - sorry. :hug:
****************************************************
It's rainy and 46 this morning - lovely, but hey, it's October. :confused3
I'm trying to decide - wait for it - if I'm going to shower this morning before the match. :rotfl:
Seriously, I showered last night after dinner and before (and I realized I forgot to tell you this part of my crazy day) going to the PATT meeting. I never go - they are always on Tuesdays, and one month it's at 3:30 and the next it's at 7:00. The boys have tennis on Tuesdays at 4:00, so I can never make the early one, and then D is so often gone on Tuesdays that I never did a night one. But after I got home from the Sharpie-fest, I got a call from one of the volunteer coordinators, who wanted me to come in and just give an update on how Book Fair was coming - totally unrelated to the snafu with the dates. So, since D was home, I went. It was actually kind of fun. Who knew? :)
Anyway, I showered at 6:30 last night, so I'm not nasty-smelling or anything. but, with the shorter haircut, you can definitely tell I've slept on my hair, and as much as I hate to admit it, people tend to do hair and make-up for matches and I don't want to look like a slob.
But then, I figure I'm going to go get sweaty, so why shower first? :rotfl:
Such a dilemma. :rotfl2:
Anyway, either way, I need to go see about washing my face and what I can do to get my hair out of my eyes without looking like a doofus - I have been wearing a headband to class and practice, but yep - I look silly! :lmao:
Wish me luck, and I'll be back later! Have a great morning, all! :goodvibes
Ugh, your PATT sounds about as arganized as our HSA! I'm sorry. I would have been freaking out too!:hug:
Usually they're pretty good. I don't know what happened here. The assistant principal (and I had to laugh that my abbreviation was censored last night :rotfl:) was really sweet, though, and I'm feeling not so bad about it today. I still hate that something I'm sending out looks so unorganized, though. ;)
:scared1: Maybe you need to change your screen name and PM us with the info. We can make sure we don't use your name.:hug:
Not a bad idea!
Have fun cleaning!
No, it's creepy. :eek: But I do see that some of us Fockers are investigating into who it was. Now your profile has all of us on it! :lmao:
Southwest just announced special fares if anyone's travelling through Feb.
I'm so tired. I've been running myself ragged. When I drop the kids off at school today, I'm going back to bed. My goal is to get rested up, do laundry and shower before the kids come home.
B has her first chiropractor appt today. I'm glad she's going because she has had problems with her hip popping since the accident. :guilty: K's coming home a little early so I can take over mom duty and get C and A fed and to soccer.
Then B has church at 6:30 and I have a parent meeting about what they'll be teaching in the human sexuality unit in a few weeks. :eek: I am not looking forward to that at all. :sad2:
I did get the 3 ADRs we needed. I couldn't get through anywhere, so I finally called Member Services and got them that way. We're doing Ohana for dinner as a family (our fav), CM for breakfast with Mel's family, and Narcoossee's for date night with Mel & Bob. :thumbsup2 The rest of the time we'll do CS meals or eat in our room since we both have a 1 bedroom at BLT.
Time to drop kids at school. See you all laters... :flower3:
Another busy day !! What else is new ! I have been picking up a lot of exta hours to help out the site manager at one of the houses with my second job as sheis really short staffed !! She pretty much will take anytme can squeeze in!! Trouble is I have very little free time !!:scared1:
The weather is lousy today RAIN!!!!!:eek:
I was glad to read that I am in the era to pre 1950 and have the immunity:cool1: I know during my first 25 years I sure got a lot of bad flus so hopefully one of them has immuned me :thumbsup2
I will chat later when I get home !!
Am I really first this morning???
Nope:rolleyes1
We're doing Ohana for dinner as a family (our fav), CM for breakfast with Mel's family, and Narcoossee's for date night with Mel & Bob. :thumbsup2 The rest of the time we'll do CS meals or eat in our room since we both have a 1 bedroom at BLT.
Glad you were able to get them!
Evening all !! Sad news ...my April/May tripis off !! I will still be going in 2010 but am back to a solo trip!! Christine had something unexpected come up and has had to cancel !!! Now I am back to the drawing board and still deciding when to go!!
I'm so sorry Rosie, but you love your solo trips so I'm sure you'll be fine :hug:
Are you at all worried about the flu over there? Just since we're talking about it... I'm glad she feels better now.
It's over here too but we don't seem to be as bothered as you :confused3
:rotfl2: Well I do know that the UK lady I was head to head with last year is in the final again, not sure if there's another Brit but probably!
So, I had over 400 copies of an info sheet talking about that first night as opening night. Stapled to 3 other sheets a piece, and specific to each classroom. :headache:
OMG :headache: What a mess up :hug:
Sorry everyone- Just a quick poke in to say hi! We had a nutso weekend with a big wedding, which was over the top, no detail left out. Tomorrow I have an interview! I'll let you know more after. Just so you all know, I still have a crazy stalker. She is reading this... I know it! :sad2: I have been trying to keep as much personal stuff of of here as possible. She really is a strange girl... (yes! YOU know who you are!) I was hoping I'd loose her, but on inspection of my user information, each time I log in, I see she has looked at my profile info/threads subbed - DAILY! :scared1: Maybe I should take it as a compliment?
Oh Jen :hug: I know you can see who's visited your profile but how do you know what they've looked at? I've had over 1,000 visits :eek:
Lord knows I am such a fashionista!
Love the photo :rotfl2: and fantastic about December :thumbsup2
But then, I figure I'm going to go get sweaty, so why shower first? :rotfl:
Such a dilemma. :rotfl2:
CE you're too funny :rotfl2:
Time to drop kids at school. See you all laters... :flower3:
How are you doing with the kids at school Dawn?
Another lazy day here, I keep asking the girls what they want to do but they don't want to do anything :rotfl2: They are both doing homework though, oh Ellie needs to make some type of working weather instrument, any ideas?
TE - I forgot to tell you. Jimmy told us last night he wants to go to school to be a farmer when he grows up. :rotfl2:
I will ask Jim if he has any ideas for you!
The therapist and the pediatrician think it is a very mild case and that OT will be all that is needed:thumbsup2
Awesome. :)
I aim to please! ;)
My dad would be so happy! ;)
I thought I quoted Dawn??? Dawn, hope you have a good day - sounds busy! :faint: I'm glad you got your ADRs in the long run. :hug: We had the school "talk" in fifth grade - mostly just "growing up" stuff and not "trampoline" so much, IYKWIM - but who knows in this day and age. :confused: We got "that" talk more like sophomore year.
OK, I'm off in about 10. I decided against a shower. :rolleyes1 My hair is slightly goofy, but not too bad! :rotfl:
I'm nervous! :eek:
I'm exhausted! the kids activities and school wear me out! I either rest while their gone or do all the cleaning, shopping, or errand running... :rolleyes:
It's always so busy here. Mel and I were talking last night about it.
I've already talked to B about dating and trampoling, so I'm not worried about that. She'll brush off anything she thinks is different than what I told her. I am just curious if it's anatomy, "the talk", boys and girls are together or if they are split... that kind of thing. It's not somthing I look forward to sitting in a room with a bunch of other adults talking about. :sad2:
Oh- And Jo, yes, B has a crush. I just found out last week. She hasn't really talked to him or anything and it seems very sweet. She's way shy. :lovestruc I hope she'll come to me if she thinks more of him than looking at him from across the desks. :rolleyes:
