Okay TFW members, I need to call on your parental wisdom here...

So, I wasn't even planning a trip to AK in May. Now my DS's been watching last year's WDW planning DVD endlessly and has announced, (among other things  ), that he wants to ride Dinosaur.

Me::scared1: "Dinosaur"? The one where TRex looks like he's coming right at you?

DS: Yes. I wanna ride Dinosaur.

Here's the thing - DS will be 5 in a few weeks. Yes, he meets the height requirement, but I'm frankly worried about the aftermath if I let him ride! He LOVES thrill rides - he's a coaster fanatic. But the 3D movies terrified him so much, I literally had to drag him, crying his little heart out, into Carousel of Progress, so great was his fear that something was going to "come out and get him". And he has nightmares fairly regularly from watching the POTC movies at Daddy's house. (Don't even get me started on that one.) Can you see why I hesitate?!

On the other hand, I know I need to sometimes trust him to know what he can and can't handle. He's never been wrong before. But I'm not so sure this is one of those times.

Can I get some opinions on the subject? Anyone gone through this personally?

Been there done that. Have had same issues with my ex (whom I not-so-affectionately call "Super Dad") DS (then 5) wanted to ride Jurrasic Park at IOA. I agreed, but covered his eyes at the crucial moment. Yeah I know - how cruel of me!

It's really hard to know how a child will react in situations like that. You may think you've got him figured out and then he will do the complete opposite. DS is 11 now and still gets scared about stuff that I would totally not expect, but could watch Jurassic Park, etc., over and over and not bat an eyelash. Go figure.

I'd say go for it if he feels confident. You can always duck out at the last minute if he changes his mind. I'm sure you wouldn't be the first.

MickeyFan - remember I have 2 extra lanyards I'll be returning to you at the DISmeet. Maybe someone can use them? do you still have an order to fill?

Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts and experiences! DS's my only child, and I was an only sibling so I have no personal experience to draw on re: child rearing. But I know how to use my resources..... Long Live the DIS! :rotfl:

So, I think you'll all enjoy this as much as I did.
Last night, I again brought up the whole Dinosaur thing...

Me: So you really want to ride Dinosaur, huh?
DS: Yeah! I wanna do "Dinosaur Boogie!"
Me: Come again?
DS: "Dinaosaur Boogie" (as he dances around in his seat)
Me: "Dinosaur Boogie" - you mean you think the Dinosaur ride has a bunch of dinos singing and dancing?
DS: Yeah! I gonna ride that!
Me: No honey, there's no singing and dancing on that ride. It's more like growling and lunging.
DS: No, "Dinosaur Boogie" (dancing some more)
Me: Wait.... are you thinking of the Triceratops ride that goes around and around, kind of like Dumbo???
DS: Yes! "Dinsosaur Boogie" - it goes way up high in the air... (still dancing and smiling)

:lmao: OMG, can you imagine if I'd actually taken him on Dinosaur??!! Though I seriously doubt he'd have even gone into the door.

Good grief, this parenting stuff requires a PhD in child psychology, coupled with a Masters in communication, I swear! :faint:

Okay, thread hijack over. Many thanks again to my awesome fellow TFW members for sharing your expertise! :thumbsup2

On the same trip to IOA I mentioned earlier, my DD6 (timid little bunny), had seen the Jurassic Park movie (thanks to Super Dad letting her watch when I wasn't home :rolleyes2 ) We started walking across the bridge to enter the Jurassic Park area of IOA and she began freaking out. She planted her feet and refused to budge. Super Dad finally had to pick her up and carry her over to a bench where we sat down to regroup. We eventually figured out that she thought there were going to be dinosaurs roaming freely through the area. :furious: WTG... Super Dad!

Doesn't it just make you nutso?! I was willing to give my ex some slack and say "Maybe he honestly didn't think POTC would be scary to our DS." Except that I'd already told him DS was having nightmares from too much Star Wars exposure. You'd think he'd have figured it out on his own. :sad2:

Then again, there are reasons why he's my "ex"! :rotfl:

And what the heck IS "Dinosaur Boogie" anyway?! Did he make this up? Is there something out there called Dinosaur Boogie??
I'm Googling....

If it's something involving being huge with wrinkled skin, I'm in

LOL on the Dinosaur ride...we aren't even presenting it as an option for DD...she'd want to ride.

I'm getting closer...8 days. Jenny, I think you should bring a pen for the autographs;)

I am bringing a pen if you are talking to me:) I am also bringing a notebook so all the DISers I meet can sign it :goodvibes and for my misc. thoughts:rotfl:

Where is everyone? What happened to Mr & Mrs T? What about Princess@heart. We've been missing a lot of TFW members.

I know! The tiggers real life keeps getting in the way sheesh! I also hope Amber's fine as she hasn't been around for ages

Me too.... I stopped at the Hallmark store today to see if they had LG crocs in my size but they didn't. They have a new color called celery but I like the lime better. No Disney jibbitz either. The jibbitz site has a bunch of new ones, though, including some from the upcoming POTC movie!!!!

I'm here, too!

Oohh... DH said he saw fake jibbitz at the local Dollar Store. They had about 4 in a pack and he said one was lime with a black "F" on it. I can't believe he didn't buy it for me!! DOH! :headache:

I'm here too...don't worry. I know you all were wonderin' about me!
