Finally I got to the end...darn school...grumble grumble...

Oh, and I checked on my authors on amazon.com - today was the announcement of the cut from 500 to 100, based on Publisher's Weekly reading the whole manuscripts (we just got the first 5000 words...). Two of my 11 (11 out of my 40 had made the first cut) made it to the 100, but neither was my favorite. One seems like a really good story for me, but somewhat unoriginal - and the grammar kind of sucked, which drives me nuts. The other just is SO not my type of book, but I am pleased in a way, because regardless of it not being my genre, it's very well-written. :confused3
Sorry im a little confised about this. Is it just a list of of bestsellers or what?

hjjdsdsfkrgflfdfg

Wait, had to uncross them so that I could type. :lmao:
:lmao:
Ignore Janet :rotfl2: 30p is 30 pence and quid is slang for pounds so it means in your language 30 cents and $40, although with the exchange rate is about 45 cents and $60 :thumbsup2
45 cents! Someone bought a pizza for 45 cents!! Where was this example from again?
Not yet. I even got on the floor under my desk with a flash light (a.k.a. torch).

I like your translations. :thumbsup2

I just wanted to pop in and tell ya' I miss you guys.

No joke! Glad to see you again! :)

I haven't moved yet. Although I will be once school is out. San Antonio it is!

Missed y'all.

Deets, please. :)

Sorry im a little confised about this. Is it just a list of of bestsellers or what?

Long and involved story, but I'm an "amazon Vine Reviewer" for amazon.com, which means once a month I get to pick a few pre-release or just released items for free, as long as I review them and help generate some buzz. That is cool in and of itself. :thumbsup2

This late winter, they invited me to be a preliminary round judge (apparently based on my book reviews - how "helpful" they are, etc.) for their Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. I was to judge 40 random 10-page excerpts on originality, voice, hook, and overall "would I read it-ness."

Unbeknownst to me, I was much more important than I realized. They only picked 100 people to do this, and we all had 40 excerpts, but there were only 2000 in the contest at that point. (There may have been up to 10,000 submissions, but amazon.com cut to 2000 based on a "pitch", and gave those to the reviewers.) Therefore, each excerpt had only two reviews, and our decisions definitely helped cut the 2000 to a quarter-final group of 500. And where I kind of figured there'd be at least 5 reviews for each one, mine was one of only two on those that I read, which carried a LOT of weight.

Anyway, out of the 40 that I read from the list of 2000, eleven made it to the cut of 500. I loved some and didn't others, but the ones that were absolute crap were part of the 39 that didn't move on, so that is good. ;) And my absolute favorites were in that 11...

Just today, they announced the next stage - cutting the 500 to 100, but this time the cut was based on people at Publisher's Weekly reading the whole book, rather than just the excerpt I got. And only 2 of my 11 made that cut.

Still with me? :rotfl:

I'm just very involved - it was really, really cool to be asked to do this, and as the cherry on top, amazon.com gave me a Kindle2 for doing it. :thumbsup2

If anyone's interested, the website for the contest is amazon . com / abna

without the spaces. Right now, they only have the 100 listed, but I think all 500 of the quarter-finalists are available as free downloads in a PDF file.

I am not supposed to reveal which ones I reviewed, but one of the 100 is in the Historical Fiction category, and the title will make you think of WDW. :rolleyes1 It's the one I think is very well written, but is more of a "book club" type.

My very favorite didn't get through, but if you're interested in reading 10 pages of a Douglas Adams type fantasy-humor story (sadly, that's all you can see), PM me and I'll link you to it.

Anyone else going to be there? I mean its not tennis or anything, but its still an exercise.

:rotfl:I can stand on a court for 3 hours, but I am NOT running for that long. Good for him. :) Are you running, too?

******************************************
OK, off to bed. D has a trip in the early a.m., and MIL arrives right after my fun tennis class. I'll try to check in before I head out in the morning, but I may be a little MIA over the rest of the week until Sunday.

Oh, one last thing...

Yucky subject, sort of, but I just found out that one of my college friends has a brother who's a reporter in the Denver area. He's going to be on Oprah Monday because he's written a really comprehensive take on Columbine (he's covered it since the beginning.) He's getting really good reviews, and hey, I know two of his sisters. :confused3 Just a little plug... it's neat for him and his family that he's getting success - and from all the reviews, no one thinks he's being sensationalistic or greedy over the tragedy, if that makes sense? The reviews are coming in that it's really insightful and possibly helpful, not just cashing in.

One of his sisters was a flight instructor when D was a student, and then the youngest sibling is about 2 years younger than me and was part of the whole group we hung out with - she was at our wedding, we still do Christmas cards, and she's a friend on FB, etc.

YAY! Jen is back! Congratulations on the move to San Antonio! :goodvibes sorry about the problems with Jon.

Welcome to the newbies!!! :goodvibes Debra, Celtic, and Lisa! :goodvibes

I want to send an e-mail saying hi. but I have no idea how to start it. what do you say to someone you left behind in Florida 21 years ago? :guilty: 21 years this week actually. I dont know what to do. :sad1: what I wouldnt do for those long walks on the beach again or spending hours sitting in his car just chatting. :sad1:

I'm sorry I'm just now checking in...
We got home after 10pm! :scared1: My realtor didn't get the offer to us until about 6:30, so there wasn't anything to report, really. I looked at six houses and decided that I wanted to put an offer on oen if Kirt agreed. but, when i called to ask the agent to shwo the house to Kirt, she told me her clients just accepted an offer on it today. So, I'm bummed about that. :guilty:

I'm going to get a list together head back to Austin to find something on Friday.

Our offer was too low. We had just lowered the price a week ago, and the offer was $8900 less than what we were asking. They also want $3000 for closing costs. We decided to counter and we should hear back from them tomorrow or Friday some time. Obviously, though, we want out so we know we don't want to lose these people and we may have to compromise somewhat. Luckily we owe a lot less than we are asking.

My friend drama is still going on, but I'm too busy to think about it right now. Since we're moving, I'm less inclined to try and work it out than if we weren't. And, honestly, I don't know that it was that great of a friendship anyway. :guilty:

I'm so tired. I'm going to bed. Good night!!!

So, what did you talk about on your call last nightpopcorn::
I wanted to know too but didn't know if it was proper to inquire. but since it's already been asked... what she said.

OMG
YES we us a service call luggage concierge and they p/u from our home and ship to our hotel then back to out home when we leave. It great and doesnt cost that much more than if we were to lug it ourselves and check it with the airline 1 large(55lbs) and 1 med(45lbs) cost $278 roundtrip.
I've never heard of that. sounds interesting...
And :scared1: on the $100 fish

Sorry im a little confised about this. Is it just a list of of bestsellers or what?
I didn't understand either but assumed everyone else did so I didn't say anything :rolleyes1

I like your translations. :thumbsup2
Thanks

We told the kids we would go camping next weekend since it just didn't work out for this week but it looks like we lied to them again. We just realized it is race weekend (We live 30 minutes from Talladega) and all of the campgrounds are booked a year in advanced for that weekend. Since i am unfamiliar with mom's rv I dont want to drive it too far our first time. I hate telling my kids something then not being able to do it. :sad2:

Rock City was postponed again too so looks like we will be doing that and Ruby falls tomorrow (in chattanooga).

Did anyone notice my tickers??

I'm sorry I'm just now checking in...

Hi Dawn. Hope you find the perfect home for your family and that they accept your counter offer. Re the FB situation but if you don't think that the friendship was that great I would say just leave it when you move.

 This hits me pretty close to home because thats me right now. i've been with marc my fiance for over 5 years. Were best friends and we dated throughout high school and shared all the same friends. we've done everything together and even though weve been long distance many times, (me in florida for 5 months, or starting college) weve always been very very close. We've now been engaged for 2 years and probably will be for a few more. Ive been with him as he went through his fire academy and several internships as a FF. Now hes started his career and im still chipping away at my school. Were both also 20.

I know this wasnt any help to you, but i was just drawing the similarities and I can't even imagine being where you are right now. I hope im not just a silly 20 year old as you said you were.

I hope everything works out alright:hug:

Good luck on the offers. Heres some pixie dust to be sure it all works out for you.pixiedust:

Boy it seems like everyone needs some hugs tonight!:grouphug:

Howdy! Busy night at work.

LORI says DR did another night in big boy underwear and no accidents. YAY! Alright!

CE is having a visit from D’s mom. She has to tidy up the house. May be MIA.

DEB and clan are postponing our little camping escapade due to RV trouble. They made all the boys cry when they told them. She has 60 days to find her docimeter. She was shown how to hug like a black woman. I did notice your tickers.

DAWN’s hoping to hear from the realtor this morning about the offer. The offer was too low. They decided to counter and should hear back from them tomorrow or Friday some time. She is looking at houses in Austin again on Friday. Sorry about all your drama.

V says Leo had a pretty good day at school yesterday. He's been sooooo tired lately, and she knows the Zyrtec he's been on for allergy season wasn't helping, so they skipped it the last two days. Holy carp - that stuff ought to be used for ADHD! He's like a different kid off it; full of energy, not falling asleep on the couch at 7:30pm, talkative... he wiped me out in an hour flat!

She needs an ADR second night, evening is free, and she wants something on the monorail line. Input? Everyone suggested Kona for me.:confused3

TE went to the GYM this morning.......shocking she knows.......she was surprised her card still worked. BA is getting full braces today since she's got all her teeth in...........not looking forward to that. Give her a hug from me. Braces were rough but so worth it.

Angie says Mitch's pharmacists brought her a sassy purse back from India. She said it was nice and totally unexpected. Pic on pg. 180, post #2688. A friend and her little girls want to go to AK, and since no ressies are available at Tusker House character breakfast, where can they see the crew?

Hi Hedy!

JO says David has some type of migraine that also causes numbness. They prescribed beta blockers which he may have to take every day for ever. OMG. I hope that's all it is. Please keep an eye on him.

KAT is still trying to get her place cleaned up. They are going to IKEA tomorrow to get the cabinet and drawer inserts that fit in the squares (for a few of the 16 squares anyway) so when it's all done I'll post pics! Please do!

RACHEL did a fly-by! Hi Rachel!!

JANET – Says training was good, but it drove her crazy not being able to check in with you guys. Awe! Yes I booked the flight.

MEL hates when the plans change! Shhhh, don’t tell Scott or V. Gus has a bad headache and tummy ache. Bob's on his way to Ohio from PA. He stopped off in Youngstown, OH to participate in one of the Tax Day Tea Parties. pirate:

G-LUV- “ I miss my friends. My Focker friends
I just wanted to pop in and tell ya' I miss you guys.” We miss you!
The trip was fabulous. She posted pics over on FB.
Jon has been meh. They've had some mega-health problems. But, They’re coming out the other side of those. She hasn't moved yet. Although she will be once school is out. San Antonio it is!

BOYS5150 says Happy had such a great time at his outdoor lab today-he cant wait to go again. He came home with so much information, she swears he didnt stop talking for hours. Took fish tank water in to be tested to see if its ready for the "real" fish and they said not yet. $42 later I was on my way home with NO FISH!! Uh yeah. That's why I told my DH no.

CEL BEL’s feeling better. She’s going to DL in September!

ROSIE’s been super busy. She had an uprising at work. Evidently tall, dark, and muscled Rock settles them down.

CARRIE needs advice on her ex fiancé and FB etiquette. How about, “Hi! I’m glad you accepted my friend invite. I’d love to hear about your family and what you’ve been doing these past few years.” :goodvibes

Hi T!

Hi Lisa!

Z, Lessa, Mo, Tig, Brack, Scott, MrsKS, MrsTK, Katt - where are you! Hope all is well. If I'm forgetting anyone, I'm sorry. How many Fockers are there?

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Not much to report on myself. We are trying to get the 'man cave' done. Doug is getting the ceiling up this weekend. We'll see. I can't wait to get that monstrous TV out of my living room. I need to take a pic of it for you guys.

We've got lots to do outside if it doesn't rain. The way it looks right now it will be raining this weekend.

hello , everyone
I am busy finding my dress now , I see the UBrides have amazing style , they are really pretty , and most of the price is around $200 , is that reasonable price ? my mon told me that is very cheap price ,what do you think of ?

good morning??

My schedule is off from being sick and sleeping all day. Since its after midnight can i be counted as the first one posting?:rotfl:

Kristal- loved the cat picture. Your pics always brighten my day. i definitely think your needed around here.

Anyway. off to sleep. If anyone is looking for a way to kill time or just wants something funny to watch, check out the fail toy videos on youtube. the guy from jeepers media is wierd and reminds me of my BIL. He has reviews of toys and what were they thinking, etc. watch out though because there are some pretty naughty ones. ironically, most of them are disney....:rolleyes1

sleep tight all you fockers!:goodvibes

Morning everyone!

Thanks for the update Kristal! I'm being lazy right now to go back and quote.

Not much exciting happened last night. Caught up on Friday Night Lights on my DVR. I love that show! I hope they bring it back next year. Nothing exciting planned for today as well. DR and I might go out on the road to Target this afternoon and stop by my aunt's house to pick up DR's b-day presents.

That's about it for me. Gotta run Linds up to school. Hope y'all have a good day!

Morning, everyone!

I read through since my last post, but I can't quote - the kids aren't even on the bus yet.

Hugs to everyone who needs them! I need to go ride herd on the kids and get them out of here. Then, I need to quickly make up the guest bed and head for tennis, then the airport, then I'll have to drag MIL to the grocery store on the way home. ;)

Jon has been meh. We've had some mega-health problems. But, we're coming out the other side of those. I hope.
I'm glad to hear he's getting better. :thumbsup2

San Antonio it is!
My sis lived in SA for awhile. Mexican food for breakfast. How good can you get? :cool1: Although you probably have that in NM now. ;)

Im going to DL in september!:cool1:

Our offer was too low.
Hopefully they will agree to your counter. :thumbsup2

We just realized it is race weekend (We live 30 minutes from Talladega) and all of the campgrounds are booked a year in advanced for that weekend.
My friend will be so jealous! She has just decided she likes Nascar. DH watches Indy and F1 so no idea where Nascar came from. :rotfl:

Hi Melody. :goodvibes I got married 12 years ago, but $200 sound very reasonable.

Morning :goodvibes

Jo...I'm so glad David was okay. That must have been very scary.

Angela...LOVE the bag!

Crazy busy trying to get ready to go. Today is laundry and pack day...and we're AIS at 8 tomorrow  I'll be in and out all day 'cause I have to stay as caught up as I can
