WOW Dawn You work quick!!!
Ok I have noted Saturday as my day.

Hope B is feeling better soon, That is a great thing about homeschooling-- you can just switch things around to your schedule....

JEN-Good luck with your speech .I hate to speak in front of groups YUK
I love organizing! ;)
She's got a heating pad & hot tea so she should be good soon. :goodvibes

Me too and I am a bit rusty, since I haven't had to in over 3 years.
You'll do great! You're a focker. We love to talk! :lmao:

Dawn- Did Katt give you a question for us?
Nope. I forgot to ask. Her business phone was ringing, and laundry was calling. :laundy:

Until Katt can get on the DIS, why don't we do a back-to-school related chat/question. How about this one... Who was your (child's) least favorite teacher and why? Who was your (child's) favorite teacher and why?

I only have a few to work with but they were extremes... :sad2:

My least favorite teacher was B's kinder teacher. She obviously was tired of teaching because she had a bad attitude and ignored B when she said she didn't feel well. It was the first week of Kinder and B came home crying and had a 102 fever. She ended up having pneumonia and even thought she told her teacher, she told her to go sit down.
This teacher also ignored B when she had an asthma attack. Luckiliy, B told THREE teachers (two ignored her) and the last one took her to the nurse for help. I was so mad! When I confronted her, she said B was lying about telling her. Yeah, right.

This is my first child and first experience with public school teachers. She still went to public school throough 2nd grade, though so I didn't let one teacher's bad behavior make my decision to homeschool for me.

My favorite was B's 1st grade teacher. She was such a sweetheart. All the kids loved her and she really seemed to care about her kids. She listened to my concerns and B didn't get ignored in her classroom because she was so shy. :lovestruc She was also a RN, so that helped with the trusting her to listen when B had asthma problems.

I'll answer that one....

My favorite teacher was in fifth grade -- Mrs. Lyons. She was tough, but fair. Very challenging, but really nice too. I was in a special program that year, so our class had most of the smart kids in it. So, we really didn't have any behavioral problems. I didn't like being around kids that were getting yelled at, so that made the year very good for me! My DD7 seems to be the same type of kid. She's very sensitive and doesn't like to be around teachers that yell, even if it's not at her!

My least favorite teacher was in third grade -- Mrs. Drury. Our class was in charge of making the morning announcements every day. She would take the child doing the announcements down to the office and afterwards, she would send the child back to the room and then she would go to the teacher's lounge to smoke. She wouldn't come back to the room for at least an hour. But she would go to the office and turn on the intercom to listen to what was going on in the classroom and then yell at everyone for talking! I mean, what were a bunch of third graders supposed to do when there was no supervision??? She would leave us spelling work to do while she was gone, but I would finish it in about 5 minutes. It was just an awful year! My mom and a friend's mom did complain to the principal, but it didn't change anything.

Who was your favorite (child's) teacher and why? Who was your least favorite (child's)teacher and why? [/COLOR]

Favorite: Mrs. Rome (I think that is how you spell it), grade 3. I was poor. Dirt poor growing up. Kind of poor that you only have the block of WIC cheese in the fridge poor. Mrs. Rome always was so kind to me and treated me like just another kid, but with a twinkle in her eye. I always felt special.

Worst: Mr Brown, HS History. Don't remember any of it. Worst, worst teacher EVER!!!! Bueller, Bueller, Bueller... Mr. Monotone should have been his name!

Ooops! I thought you meant our teachers!

For DD7, she's only in 2nd grade, so we've only had two teachers so far (it's too early for judgement on her 2nd grade teacher that we've only had for 1 1/2 weeks). I loved her kindergarten teacher -- very sweet and was able to challenge my little 5 year old who had taught herself to read at age 3. She was reading chapter books before kindergarten, but her K teacher took the time to put together lesson plans that challenged my little reader. It was awesome!

Unfortunately, that didn't continue in first grade. Her first grade teacher didn't do much to challenge her and was a little grumpy. She got upset at kids all the time and was pretty stern. I don't have a problem with that normally, but she was a bit overwhelming at times. She never yelled at my DD, but just the atmosphere made DD very nervous. Not a good year.

This year, her teacher seems to be much more like her kindergarten teacher. I'm hoping that it will be a great year!

I CAN NOT DO ANYTHING.....But then again I have had NO COFFEE:mad:

I had a LONG post... answered 2 questions... and it was lost... said I WAS NOT LOGGED IN : furious:

Here are my questions... and I'll RE-ANSWER LATER :headache:

1 Favorite Candy Bar.. 5th Avenue ( that is short and easy)
2. What do I want to be doing in 5 years. I'll fill that one in later after I calm down and MAYBE HAVE SOME LUNCH.. since I seem to have skipped breakfast and COFFEE:mad:

You can do either one. I don't remember much about my teacher's so I did B's teachers.

I love when teachers go out of their way to help a child learn. That's great that she helped with the reading thing.

I can't stand teachers who yell. You chose to be a teacher and you need to learn to deal with the classroom problems that come up. :sad2:

I can't wait to hear youre answers. :yay:

ME TOO!

We have only had one teacher so far, since ds is going into the 1st grade this year. I am really excited about his teacher though, because she wants me to come into the class and help a lot! (I have an elem. ed background).

Dawn & Jodi~ I wouldn't have been too happy with those teachers either! I think those very first years of school need to be with teachers who can ensure kids from a young age that education is important and is an awesome gift!

Favorite Candy Bar: MARS Bar (which can no longer be found here in MN... anyone else have them in your area?) I also love MN's own Nutgoody and salted nut rolls. YUMMO!

In five years... I would love to be a skinny and have a toddler (my dh has cut me off).

Jen - good luck with the first grade teacher. I love going into my DD's classroom and helping out! I'll probably start right after Labor Day (when DD4 starts preschool).

Speaking of DD4, she wants to go to the pool today, so I just packed a lunch for us and we're headed out. I'll be back later this afternoon.

Have a great day and don't chat too much!!! :rolleyes1

Dawn.... I'll email you the pics... there are more... just too many to share em all... and we aren't done w/ him yet... We'll be taking him many places before your due date ;)

Jen and Jodi and doxy... thanks for the sweet comments... we had a blast with stanley the other day and always love an excuse to go to my fave city :) I wish I still lived there ... quiet peaceful mountain town :)

::yes:: I agree. An education is so important. I want my kids to enjoy school more than I did.

I don't know if we get that candy bar. I'll have to look now. ;)

Ready for the day what? Whatcha doing? :surfweb:

I wanted to run to Target, but with B feeling funny, I want to wait and make sure she's good. I'm going to do a ton of laundry and school with the little kids now. Then I'm going to clean so that we can enjoy a long weekend with daddy. I'll keep checking in all day, though. :goodvibes

OMG Dawn I say that all the time...It is frustrating. Thankfully I have never had to deal with that and hopefully I wont --but lots of my friends have

The only teachers I really remember were my elementary school ones and I cant really choose because there were so many great ones. I went to a small school and everyone knew everyone. Everyone was very involved. It was such a great introduction to schooling. Gave me a good outlook.

I didnt really care for my 5th grade teacher Mrs Vecchione. She was really old, cranky, crabby and NO FUN. No challenges. Noone liked her much.
