I had to share this with all of you as it has made a substantial impact on how I feel about everything tonight!
Good evening everyone! Been a very emotional afternoon for me! I was able to get into work and so glad I did. One of my clients was a 16 year old with about 2 weeks left to live! She has a bucket list and 2 things on it were to get a facial and have a massage!
Like Kathy said... what an honor and blessing to be able to grant part of a person's dying wish.
HI Everyone! My name is Erica. I just wanted to say hi, this is my first time doing the BL and I am stoked to be on Team Donald! I started the C25K and I am training to run the Princess 1/2 Marathon in 2012. I never stay on a diet but I thought training for something may invoke my competitive spirit and cause me at least to be faithfully exercising and hopefully this board may help me make some positive healthy choices regarding diet! Can't wait to get to know you all!
Erica
Welcome aboard!!!
First- I will send my weight in tomorrow morning as I still need to go try a 3rd scale to see which of my 2 is the accurate one
>>Friday, 1/21/11 QOTD- List some positive changes you have made or felt over the past 3 weeks. Let's all celebrate our successes so far with this challenge and inspire each other to keep on this healthy path. <<
One looking forward to getting the exercise in.. And also on how well I'm keeping and gaining on the running front.. Today was 3 miles in 33 minutes (God bless those last 3 minutes as I had 2 others waiting for my treadmill and I had gone over my time

and the glares kept getting worse by the second..)
two-Choosing the better option by making a decision of what exactly to eat before the meal and sticking with it.
I HATE those 30 minute limits on the machines at the Y. I'm fortunate I can get there when it isn't too crowded and don't have to worry too much about being glared at. Just apologize sweetly when you get off and let them know that you just wanted to finish you mileage. (Or do what I've seen others do... resent your clock after your warm-up

).
Saturday 1/22/11- It's the weekend, let's talk disney!!
When was your first trip, your most recent trip, and when is your next trip? Care to share a favorite memory too?
Oh my gosh.... like most of you, I could spend HOURS talking about Disney... past trips, future trips, favorite trips. But I only gave myself until about 8:45 am to be online and time is ticking away.
First trip..... with my parents, brother, and grandparents the first week of December 1974. It was my first time on a plane, first time in a hotel, first time away from New England. We saw the MK (only park at the time), Sea World, Busch Gardens. I remember using ride tickets at MK. I was absolutely in AWE of the entire trip. I knew I was a very lucky girl. We saw Space Mountain nearing completion as we rode the Skyway. I was so sad that we were just a few weeks short of being able to ride Space Mountain. It would be 9 years before I got that chance.
Most recent trip..... I took DS this past May for a four day whirlwind WDW Mother/Son trip. I take both of my kids away for a long weekend each year. DD had been to WDW with a school trip in January, so I decided DS needed some Disney MAGIC. It was SO MUCH FUN, just the two of us. But I really missed the magic of having both kids there (DH, not so much... he isn't a big Disney fan like the rest of us).
Next trip..... Mother/Daughter weekend sometime this year!! Nothing is booked/planned yet, but we are talking about it. I would like to go before school gets out, but I hate pulling her out of school... that gets really touchy in high school. And I checked the school calendar and there isn't a single Monday or Friday holiday or Teacher workshop day other than Memorial day for the remainder of the year. I'll probably just bite the bullet and pull her out for two days. She hasn't missed any other days yet this year that I can recall and she is a high honors student. If she can get past worrying about what she will miss, I think that is what we will do.
My favorite memory is probably watching Wishes at DL with my family. It was crazy crowded, but that particular trip was super magical.
Up early to head to my first fitness class at the gym. I signed up for a Saturday morning one that is 8 weeks long and they are going to introduce all the classes offered. This morning it is strength training and I will follow up on the treadmill for some cardio.
Being on the road this week was tough. I tracked everything with sparkpeople, but clearly, the nutritional info listed under various sites is inconsistent at best. I would love meal suggestions from people who travel for work and are on a limited budget. I mentioned before, but the cut in per diem is really difficult adjusting to - I used to be able to have fish, chicken, salad, etc. Now it is at a fast food level. HELP!
Happy Saturday.
Your intro class sounds great. I wish my Y offered something like that. It might get me past my fear of starting a new class.
I have a few questions about your travel eating. Do you HAVE to eat out (i.e. are you eating with other people)? What exactly IS your per diem (if you don't mind me asking)? If you ARE with others, would be be embarrassed to use coupons? What kind of hotels do you stay in (mini-suites, standard rooms, super-cheapo)??
Just a few suggestions to throw out there before I see your answers....
To save calories and money, I would suggest breakfast in your room. Instant oatmeal, instant grits, tea, fruit, Sandwich Thins and peanut butter.... all of these can be made with just hot water (assuming your room has a coffee maker).
If you have a microwave and fridge you can take it to the next step.... frozen breakfast sandwiches (you can make these at home to control the calories), Lean pockets (nothing I would normally recommend, but okay in a pinch), Vitamuffins, yogurt, cold cereal with milk, juice. When DH used to travel more for work and stayed in a room with a fridge/microwave, he would stop at the local grocery store for dinner and pick up a half a rotisserie chicken and some fruit and maybe salad bar.
If you save money (and calories) with do-it-yourself breakfast, you should hopefully have enough to eat a decent lunch/dinner.
If you aren't eating with others at lunch and/or dinner, do you HAVE to go out for a full sit-down meal? How about a nice 6" turkey sub from Subway? Add a piece of fruit and a water or milk for a full meal.
McDonalds offers oatmeal now for $1.99 that is very yummy. I have had it for lunch once or twice now when I've been on the road. Their fruit and yogurt parfait is a nice light breakfast or snack too.
I would suggest packing up a traveling food kit. Stock it with some paper plates and napkins and plastic utensils, instant oatmeal, tea bags, single serve peanut butter packs, tuna "meal" kits, Fiberone bars (or something like that), maybe dried fruit. Then, when you are heading out on a trip, drop in some fresh fruit, yogurt, baby carrots,
I'll be happy to make more suggestions after I see your answers. Hope this helps for now.
Well friends.... I'm over my self-allotted computer time for the morning! Guess it is time to get going!! B.ball game for DS at 11:30 and swim meet for DD starting at 2pm (we have to arrive at 12:45 for warm ups and such), so I probably won't get back on today. But tomorrow is an unusual day for us.... NOTHING ON THE CALENDAR! After church we have a totally free day!! I see some more scrapbooking in my future!! Or maybe....

oh well.
I think I'll make up a pot of oatmeal for the family. That is DD's "lucky" breakfast that she likes to have on race days. DS isn't too fond of it, but tough luck today. And something warm and creamy sounds just right.... it's gonna be brutally cold today. TTYL..............P
