I'm in...........:surfweb: popcorn::

You have lots on your list that I am planning to try in December so I am excited to hear your views.

Sounds like it's going to be a great review. I'm in.

Thank Matt for tolerating the Must take pictures of every meal...

Thanks for taking the time to share.

I can't wait either!!! You had me laughing at your introduction, so I am sure the rest of your review is going to be very entertaining!!!!:goodvibes

Friday 25th July 2008- The Blue Planet

Ok, so here we go!

Thanks for all the positive responses :goodvibes , I hope I can live up to all your expectations!!! I figured you guys would rather get into the porn than have me respond to things, so I'll do this first and then chat to you wonderful people! :)

Now, firstly, apologies for the first couple of meals- our camera charger broke so we were without piccys. I think we took some on the disposable camera but they haven’t been developed yet; I’ll scan them when they are. Once we get to the Crystal Palace the real food porn kicks in. Until then I’ll try to use my powers of describe-ation.

It’s tradition with Matt and I to head to Planet Hollywood for our first-full-day dinner. We got there around 7.30-ish after a play and a bit (ok, a lot) of shopping with all the vacation money burning a hole in my pretty orange backpack. I don’t know what came over me but I’d managed to convince myself that the lines for PH (on a Friday night. In the middle of Summer) weren’t that bad.

I was really really wrong.

We got there and hot, tired vacationers were queued all the way down the outside stairs with their hotter, tireder, crankier kids in hand. We stood in line and eventually made it to the front, me unsuccessfully trying to convince Matt that it couldn’t possibly be more than a 15 minute wait. It's a huge place, right? Then the party of four in front of us get told ‘It’s going to be around a two hour wait’. Eep. Matt gives me a ‘look’ that says ‘I told you McDonald’s wasn’t such a bad idea’. So I nervously ask about the wait for a party of two and… yay! Straight up! Straight past all the people waiting on the stairs, in the lobby-thing, in the bar and on the next floor up. Oops but, yay, I love being a twosome!

We ordered up a celebration cocktail, well I did, Matt ordered a celebration Bud. I had a Blue Lagoon which is a mix of Ketel One, blue curacao, pineapple juice and pink lemonade. The drink comes with a free shark (not real because that would just be scary. And pretty impractical.) and tastes So Good. Very fruity and very addictive. So addictive I made my way through two of the puppies.

We split an appetizer of Chicken Crunch which are ‘tender strips of chicken breast with a crunchy sweet coating served with Creole mustard’. The chicken itself was tasty and the outer coating was tangy and yummy. The mustard dip was good too- very sweet and light. We didn’t like the grated carrot that came with it- it wasn’t fresh and was all soggy. There was really no point in sacrificing those poor carrots.

For my dinner I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad. Matt always tells me I’m boring for ordering this but PH do it SO well. There’s something just different about the Caesar sauce here that makes it so yummy (I get the feeling I’m going to be using the word ‘yummy’ a lot ;) ). With crunchy croutons and fresh lettuce, this salad is my favourite anywhere. The chicken was a bit dry but who cares when you’ve got yummy sauce to drown it in.

Matty had the New York Strip Steak and swapped the baked potato that came with it for PH fries. Mmmm… PH fries. They’re so crunchy and well seasoned and goooood. I helped Matt finish his because I’m that kind. (I promise my taste gets a bit more high brow than Caesar sauce and PH fries soon.. at this point I’ll just take anything that isn’t airline food ;)) Matt said his steak was cooked to perfection- the vast majority of the time he has it charred to death and this time they got it spot on.

The atmosphere, for those of you who’ve never visited, is loud and busy. There are three levels packed with tables surrounded by film memorabilia. Huge screens play movie clips and music vids and later on in the night there’s a DJ. Talking is pretty much replaced by shouting. But it’s a fun meal, the food is ok and there’s plenty to look at. We like going for lunch too- it’s quieter and gives you more time to browse around.

So a thumbs up for Planet Hollywood. Good, fast food, served with a smile. What more can two jet-lagged bunnies ask for? Next up is PF Chang’s and then we get into the pics!!! Yay!

Saturday 26th July 2008- It sure ain’t takeout!

Ok, so are you ready for a shameful confession? It’s the second (third if you count the day we arrived) day of our vacation and, apart from DTD, we still haven’t hit WDW. I know! The shame! However, at this point we were like “Three weeks? That’s forEVER, we have all the time in the world”. Which of course, we didn’t.

Anywho, the girl in me wanted to go shopping. And I persuaded the boy that it would be super fun, promising him at least one sports store and reminding him he still needed a suit for V&A’s.

So we hit Mall at Millennia. That’s the place that makes your eyes water when you check out prices. Seriously. We went in Tiffany’s and I spotted a gorgeous necklace with stars on and, ok, I know it’s Tiffany’s but I thought, it’s a necklace, it’s costume jewellery, how bad can it be? Matt said I could have it as my Christmas present from him. Cool. So we asked the sales assistant if we could look. I spotted the price tag: $20000. :scared: Cue, “you know what honey? Maybe we should look some other places first?” aka ‘if you break it, I’ll have to sell my car and all my worldly possessions so let’s scram’.

Anywho, food. I honestly hadn’t ever heard of PF Chang’s. :confused3 Chinese is my absolute favourite though, so it was pretty much a ‘that place does Chinese, let’s eat’. Again, no pics here *yet* but as soon as the lovely folks at Asda develop my camera they’ll be scanned and up!

Now this place was much more full of your adult couples than your theme park crowd so no luck on the ‘party of two fastpass’ front. It was an hour wait. But I wanted to eat there and there was a bar so, what’s the problem? We sat at the bar and ordered a Chang’s Mai Tai for me, a Bud for Bud Boy and some chicken noodle soup to be munching on.

Chang’s Mai Tai= yum. The bar chick was super-generous with the rum, so much so I figured there must be some pirate in her blood. It was Bacardi, Myer’s Dark Rum, orange curacao (they do orange? New to me!) and some random juices. It was yummy and boy did it have a kick! I didn’t need another (but don’t worry, fellow drink-lovers, I managed to squeeze one in! ;) ). Oh, Matt’s Bud was good old Bud. He’s our lovely designated driver so he doesn’t manage to get too adventurous (hey, you whine for an upgraded rental car, you drive it buster!). He will make up for it soon, however.

The chicken noodle soup was good too. I am a MASSIVE chicken noodle soup fan so was very excited. Here’s it’s made with shiitake mushrooms, tomatoes and cilantro. I think the cilantro (which I didn’t know until I asked are coriander leaves) totally took the flavour of the broth away though, I ended up picking through them. On the other hand, Matt LOVED them so I guess it’s just personal taste. And you can’t beat shiitake mushrooms. Mmmmm.. The bowls are MASSIVE though. We were going to order one each but the waitress was like ‘you won’t need it’. And we didn’t. We got a huge serving bowl and made about four smaller bowls out of it, with some left over.

About half an hour after that our pager, which we were just bashing on the counter to try and bring to life, buzzed and we were led to our table. We were soooo hungry (yes, I know we’ve just eaten soup big enough to feed a small country, but we had no lunch!) so we quickly ordered ‘Chang’s chicken lettuce wraps’. Matt was busy frowning at this because he ‘doesn’t believe in salad as part of the major food groups’ but I promised it’d be good (not that I had any basis for promising whatsoever!). And it was good!!! Spicy minced chicken served in crispy lettuce cups, what’s not to like? And it was nice and light, leaving plenty of room. We both gobbled this up and it even pleased the Anti-Salad Party Leader.

Next I thought it was time for another drink. So I got a ‘Royal Poolside’. This was Captain Morgan and Malibu rum, blue curacao, oj and pineapple juice. Yum! So refreshing! And Blue curacao is quickly becoming my favourite spirity-thing.

For dinner I had Chicken with Black Bean sauce. Now, this is my staple diet back home and you have to be really good to impress me. And they did! The sauce was spicy, but not too spicy, it was thick and there was plenty of it. The chicken was tender and juicy and the veg that came with it were cooked just to crunch and very fresh. So good! We split an order of chicken fried rice which was good, but nothing special. I like mine drowned in soy sauce so I had to add more. Matt was way disappointed duck didn’t appear in any form on the menu but got over it and ordered Wok Charred Beef. This was beef with marinated mushrooms and roasted sweet peppers. He said it was good, the beef was very well cooked but the sauce was a bit too sweet. I didn’t try this one but it really must have been for him to say something as he’s a big fan of sweet sauces usually.

No dessert for us here because we were stuffed! But overall I loved this place and we will definitely be back, just with reservations next time!

Next up, the real food porn starts with piccys and a buffet-fest- Crystal Palace and Boma!!! Thanks for reading!!!

I second this recommendation! I am not a big fan of key lime pie, but that martini . . . OMG, it just doesn't get any better!

PF Chang's is definitely one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I've never had anything there I didn't like.

Can't wait to read more. Your reviews are great!
