Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Happy Birthday Julie:bday: party: :cake:

Just a quick post from me. I started reading Fearless Fourteen this morning while waiting for a shuttle bus. It will be great motivation to get on the TM today so I can read for an hour.

Jen-- Love the quilt it is very pretty.

Julie--- Good job on your 7 miles.

Hope to make Pilates and do 4 miles on TM tonight.

Have a great day Cousins.

Nancy

ahhh, guess who's back, back again?

Robert Yes I'd say that if my goal was "just to finish" there'd probably be no worries about running the half in Jan. However, that was never the case. I wanted to run (jog?) the whole thing and finish less than 2h30min. I was totally on track for that before I got hurt. Now....not so much. I know everyone has their own goals and "just finishing" might be great for some people, but I'm more in it to do the best I possibly can and have it be a challenge. To spend all that cash money to get down to FL (hotel, plane, misc.) would be sucky if I don't do a good job (as decided by me what my "good job" is, can you tell I don't want flames either?). If my goal was just to finish, I'd rather do a local half (there's even one on Dec. 31st around these parts, the "Last Chance Half") where I didn't have to spend so much darn money!

Richard man, that suuuucks about the car. At least you are not terribly hurt. I've been hit from the back twice (once in my own car, once as a passenger in someone else's), they are not fun I can attest to that!

Oooh, I got TWO songs about me. My preference is "My Michelle" by Guns N Roses, because well, I just like that much better than "Michelle" by the Beatles. More my speed. :cool1:

I just finished reading Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson and a second author whose name I don't recall. It was weird. That much I'll say... My next book up is some girly book about a girl who has been in many a wedding as a bridesmaid but never her own (yes much like 27 Dresses). Those are my true guilty pleasures. Those girly books. haha.

WELCOME to the new folks. A big old HI to the "old" folks (that doesn't sound right, now does it).

Stay safe all this 4th! Watch out for rogue fireworks! :)

Hi Ohana buds. I have a new player for you. DreamBeliever, who is a walker. I figured a walker might find a home here on the Ohana team.

Please welcome your new team mate, "DreamBeliever".

Visiting Panda:hippie:

Hola cousins!! El Sickness checking in for once..!! Where has the month of June gone?!

I hope everyone is doing well, happy belated Julie!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I know I am a little late but the posts about "having a song" cracked me up.. at least y'all get a song! No one writes songs about Morgan unless it's a song about rum :rotfl: but don't get me started on having a non-normal name.. Jeff still laughs at my gripes about not having a personalized bike license plate as a kid because Toys R Us didn't carry my name!!

Anyone have any good 4th plans? We might be heading up to Detroit...

Dreambeliever:WELCOME TO OHANA! :welcome:
Please jump right in!

Jen: LOVE the quilt! You are so talented! Boy, I wish you could meet one of my friends......she is a retired artist/art teacher who has taken up quilting and does absolutely beautiful work. I would love to show you photos, but knowing her, nothing is digital!

Morgan: I'm going to Detroit this weekend! John and I are going to meet what is probably going to be our new big fat Greek family! They have even promised to take us to the Greektown casino! I think we will be spending the 4th in Royal Oak....we received an invitation to the party that started it all last year. Should be interesting. We are also planning to visit the Henry Ford museum. What are your plans? Will our paths cross? Glad to see you posting again!

:welcome: Dreambeliever.

Morgan, nice to hear from you. Don't worry about not having a song with your name in it, I don't think there's one for me either. Although I did have a bike license plate...At least you probably didn't have six other Morgans in your class, right? There were always two or three Julies in mine.

Debra..You kill me! Atleast you like the song with your name in it......mine, not so much.

Richard..I hope you are healing well and able to get back into the swing of it soon.

Maria..Ok, total dork moment here, but...I LOVE the Sound of Music. And I love that song, too. Its fun! Glad you were able to get your walking in outside. I love Boston, I am a bit jealous! And Joanna was actually Kool and the Gang...

Nancy..That is awesome that you got so much exercise in while at a conference. As for the WW cookbooks, I have some great ones, but my new personal fav is the Hungry Girl cookbook...lots of junky favs made low points and healthy.

Jen...mental note...add that song to IPod

Julie...Happy Belated Birthday!

Everyone...thanks for all the book ideas you are giving me.

Me..I completed C25K and then fell into a funk. I didn't not run, but I didn't enjoy running. Then, all of a sudden...I learned to breathe. The last two runs I have gone out and it has felt natural. For me, that is huge. I tried a new route today, too, and I liked it. Hilly, but I can deal with that.

This weekend we are heading to Syracuse (7 hours trapped in a car with the kids...uugghh) for a family reunion. We are leaving at 6 on Friday, so my plan is to run before we leave. Then, on Sunday, I will hike out from camp to the road (unless you hike in, the only access is by boat..no running water, no electricity) and run. We come home Tuesday, so I am hoping to run at home that day. Then my 1st race is next Friday....eeeekkkk!

Jen: I love the quilt! I used to quilt quite a bit myself, now I just hoard pieces of fabric that will "someday" be a really nice quilt or project... I have shuch good intentions:rolleyes1

As for books, I have fairly basic taste. I just finished the "His Dark Materials" series by Pullman. I also really like the Bennie Harper mysteries by Earlene Fowler- they are total fluff, but fun to read. I'm not too proud to admit my geek side as well. I just read the lastest series of Star Wars novels (although I have never dressed in a Star Trek uniform and have no plans to do so).

I lamed out today and walked instead of running-- I'm rationalizing that the hour I spent digging and laying a brick walkway in my yard counts as some exercise... I'll try for my long run tomorrow-- thje DL 1/2 is coming way too fast!!!

OK, tonight my strength training consisted of helping DH drag our hot tub from the garage around to the back patio, up three stairs and set into place. UGH! It is a 2 person hot tub (previously used) that we got for a steal (I totally mean that). So DH re-stained the deck, and we set the tub into place. Now it is filling and I FINALLY have a place to relax. Our patio looks really nice with the new staining and all my beautiful potted flowers in bloom!

Jeanne - That quilt is not my normal style, so it was fun to do. I do free motion and landscape artwork a lot. I guess lately I have been doing more piecing tho. But what I really want to do is make my girls some cutesy Disney Appliqued clothes. I take coloring book pages, convert them to patterns and make things. That is fun also! I guess I do lots of different kinds. My mom was a home ec teacher, so I learned young. I have a "studio" in our house and also do a lot of fiber work.

Ok, gotta get some rest. Work is totally draining me. I went to the doctor today for my yearly and she had me get a blood test for hemoglobin and thyroid to see if that is causing me my exhaustion and weight problems. I can't even describe my exhaustion, it is horrible.

Woohoo! :woohoo:

A few minutes to DIS at work!

Ok, exercise not so much since Saturday. Eating pretty scary, and I am going to post our time from last week eventually, I promise!

On a very bright note, I finished Ladies of Liberty! I'm well intoFearless Fourteen. I'm a little sad with every page I read because I don't want it to end, but I also can't stop reading! :lmao:

Jen -- I hope the testing with your doctor pays off, and you have some good answers. The hot tub sounds heavenly :cloud9: I'm sure you will really enjoy having a great place to relax.

JenB -- Like you, I'm not actually going to wear a Star Trek costume, but I enjoy watching the people who really get into it. I should be so unselfconscious and intent on fun! :hippie:

Johanna -- Ah, Kool and the Gang. I knew it was one of those groups, but just couldn't place it. At least I remembered the song! I actually have two songs from musicals. I went with "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" for comedic effect, but I actually much prefer "Maria" from West Side Story. There's also a creepy Debbie Harry "Maria" song, but I'm not into that one.

Morgan & Julie -- Sorry you are songless. But you do have great names! :yay:

DreamBeliever -- You're not the DreamBeliever who is Ruth from Chicago are you?! Just checkin'...:thumbsup2 :welcome: to the wacky world of Team Ohana!

Shell -- I can see why you're not exactly thrilled with the Beatles "Michelle" -- these are words that go together well?! I think someone spent a little too much time in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band...

Nancy, Jeanne, Richard, Denny,Mel, Christa, Robert, Debra & Other Cousins -- Hope you're have a great day and anticipating an awesome 4th of July! :dogdance: :smickey:

Maria :surfweb:

Hello fellow Ohana team members

Thank you for the warm welcome :grouphug: And by the way Maria ... yes, I am Ruth from Chicago ... what a great memory :scared1: I want to thank you for walking with me ... a buddy is always the best medicine.

I'm currently training for the Chicago Distance Classic (1/2 marathon) which takes place in August. The weather has been great for early morning walks, so training has been a breeze. Also, I'm pushing myself to do the Mickey in January. With a lot of training, no injuries, and plenty of pixie dust, I hope to cross the finish and earn my first full marathon medal.

I look forward to the motivation, advice and giggles we'll all share.

Ruth

Welcome DreamBeliever--Ruth:welcome:

Jen--- If I bring Wine can I use your hot tub?

Johanna-- We are going to both be in NY state this weekend. My nephew is getting married on the 4th at a Winery in Wakins Glen. It is 4 hr drive for us and only DH and I. We are staying for the weekend to go to some of the other wineries in the Finger Lake region.

Maria--- I am enjoying Fearless Fourteen and am trying to stretch it out by only reading it while on the TM. If I don't have it finished by Thursday, I am taking with me on my trip and finish it up while away. Next up will be James Rollins "The Last Oracle".

JenB--- I have not heard of the Ben Harper series, if it is a light read I might have to try them. I like to add some fluff books in between all the murder mysteries I read.

So both both Morgan and Jeanne will be in Detroit for the 4th. I will be awaiting the Greek weekend report from Jeanne.

So far this week I have done 2 miles on TM, Pilates, Spin Class and Pump class. Not sure what I plan for today, there is Intervals class but my body feels exhausted today so maybe I'll do stretch class instead and the TM. I hope by 4:30 I have a burst of energy.

Where is Debra? A shout out to all my Ohana Cousins who haven't posted in awhile.

Nancy

Hey cousins... I hit the TM for 30 minutes last night. Pretty proud of my myself since I have been so slacky lately!! Then I splurged on an ice cream with the girls. My girls left for grandma's today, we pick them up tomorrow after work. Gonna miss those rugrats!!!

Nancy - Oh by all means.... bring the wine!!!

Ruth - I did the CDC last year. Actually a whole bunch of WISHers did. It was a great time... hot... but a great time. I won't be able to make it this year, but would like to do that one again.

My plans for the 4th... HOT TUBBING IT! No really, we don't have much for plans. So sad! Maybe shoot some kiddie fireworks off. We talked about maybe going to the fireworks show, but I just hear they cut way back because of costs this year. Oh yah, battling crowds for a pathetic fireworks show is not my idea of fun. Nothing can come closed to WDW, so we may pass. Plus in the past my neighorhood has been known for shooting illegal sky ones off!

Good Morning, Cousins!

Ok, still involved in the "Clean That Won't End"...My family arrives tomorrow, so I guess that's when I'll be done :lmao: Anyway, no time for workouts, but trust me, I am in motion from the moment I get home from work.

I'm starting to get worried about actually losing weight before I do the Half again in Jan., so that should help me reign it all in for the rest of the summer. Once the family departs (not sure how long they're staying, probably a week), and the work slows down (July 31st should be the last hard day!), I will again focus on me! :thumbsup2

Jen -- Like you, we will be having a laid back 4th. My dad and his sister are in their 70s, and they aren't into crowds. We'll be in our backyard (no hot tub :sad2:), with the grill and the pool. We can see fireworks from our front lawn, so anyone who's still awake can pull out a lawn chair and watch. Sweet italian sausage, guacamole, watermelon, s'mores...now I remember why I love this holiday! :lovestruc

Nancy -- I'm hoping there will be another Christmastime Plum book to tide us over. I have Undead and Unworthy waiting to be picked up at the library. I love Betsy the Vampire Queen, she's a riot and it's always a quick read. popcorn::

Ruth -- So glad to see you on Team Ohana!:woohoo: For those of you who haven't heard my Half tale, I went in last year starry-eyed, MfM trained, very excited but not really knowing how it would be (like childbirth ). Ruth adopted me and kept me going. I went faster and farther than I thought I could. Without her, I really don't think I would have finished in time to get a medal. That was when I really got what WISH is about, and it made me want to do the same for someone else. I know you are going to coast through the Mickey, and I'll be scream teaming to help push everyone along! :wizard:

Just 11 days until I can make my dining reservations! Pretty much all I've been able to get dh to commit to is dinner at Boma one night. I'm hoping for a lunch at Restaurant Marrakesh, and maybe dinner at Spoodles, but I may have to make those the day of, and hope for the best. I am a planner, dh doesn't want to think about it. I may make some and be prepared to cancel. That way I feel better, and yet we are not fully committed...It would help if EMH hours would come out! We want to do a morning EMH, and then have a lunch reservation and relax by the pool.

Ok, computer is doing freezy scary things, so I'd better transmit while I can.

All the Cousins -- Have an awesome, Ohanatastic Day!

Maria:upsidedow

Jen ~ I'm glad to hear that WISHERs have participated in the CDC and hopefully there will be some there this year as well. This is my first time for the CDC and I'm doing it to help train for the full in January.

Maria ~ You did an awesome job at the half and I'm glad we could help each other along. Since the half, I went back to do the final Minnie in May. It was alot of fun and I'm sorry that event won't be continued. There were many inspiring mom/daughter teams and it was great hearing them encourage each other.

Today while walking, a nasty shin splint got me off to a slow start. However, I still managed to walk for 75 minutes.

WISHing you all a great day!

Ruth

Nancy, our reunion was in Watkins Glen two or three years ago for our annual family reunion. We went to Watkins Glen State Park, and it is absolutely gorgeous. We had a fabulous time. Its a very pretty area. I hope you have a fabulous time at the wineries. We will still be in transit on the 4th.

Ruth: Don't forget to post your minutes and miles on the other Ohana thread. Your name is not on the spreadsheet yet (nor is jbucci or FatElvis) but I will notify the person who handles the list and take care of that. I'll also keep track of your miles/minutes and add them to the spreadsheet as soon as it gets revised, so don't worry about not being there.

I'll be posting the miles and minutes tonight and will try to check back tomorrow morning to pick up any stragglers. I'll be leaving tomorrow around mid-day for Detroit to meet the fam. I won't be back until very very late Sunday evening. If any of the newbies have questions, I trust the veterans will be able to guide them onto the right track.

HAVE A HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

Where is Debra? We miss her!

This adding a picture thing is tougher than I thought, but I think I got it.:rotfl:

I mentioned I did a little quilting and thought I'd share a picture of an appliqué Lion King quilt I made a few years ago. I love to take images from coloring books, etc and make stuff like this. I also did a snoopy one but can't find any digital picutres of it.
LionKingQuilt.jpg

The Benni Harper books are very light reading. I actually got into them because each one has a quilting pattern title and my mother-in-law though I'd like them due to the quilting references. The auther is Earlene Fowler and I think the first book in the series is called Fool's Puzzle. They murder mysteries but mostly fluff and no real crime/gore feeling to them.

JenB--- What a beautiful quilt. Will have to check out the Bennie Harper series.

Maria-- I looked up Betsy the Queen series and the book covers and Titles are so cute. Between what JenB and you have recommended I might have to be either making a trip to the used book store and buy the used books on Amazon. It will be light and fluffy reading for my PC cruise. I am going to purchase Stephanie Meyers new book "New Dawn" which is being released in early Aug for heavy reading on the cruise.

Ruth-- Good job on getting in 75 minutes with the shin split issue. Glad that you found our group and already know Maria.

Jen--- I know what you mean by fighting crowds at fireworks shows. Sitting in the car to get home in traffic takes longer than the firework display. Our township has a great display and it lasts for 30 minutes. They did it on Sunday night. I live on a hill and can sit at the end of my driveway and see the entire show and then just pick up my chair and walk back into the house.

Jeanne, Johanna, and Morgan-- Have a safe trip.

I did a 4 mile walk outside last night. It was the first time that I have walked outside for several weeks. My lower back was killing me by the time I finished and I was miserable all night. It is so different walking outside compared to the TM. I really lack ambition to do my walks since I am so into all the different classes at the gym. I hope by Sept my attitude changes as I prepare for the half.

HAPPY 4TH EVERYONE

Nancy

Nancy ~ Another great place to purchase used books is on half.com via eBay. They also have school text books at a much more reasonable cost than through school book stores. I will warn you though, cheap books can be addictive.

Jeanne ~ I'll look for thread to post my exercise minutes. It's amazing how changing a little ticker at the bottom of my signature, can be so motivating.

Maria ~ I saw you are making ADR soon ~ when will you be there? I'm celebrating my 50th the week of Thanksgiving and we're staying at Fort Wilderness in a cabin. My family has made all the dining arrangements and they're keeping their lips sealed. I'm usually the one to make the ressies, however, I love that they want to surprise me.

Today, I walked 90 minutes without any shin splint issues ~ yea me!

Have a fun and safe 4th of July
