Team 5: Herc's Heroes--July Hours and Miles Post Here!

Thanks for welcoming me to your team!

I jogged/walked 2 miles at 26:12 on the dreadmill today. (with no knee pain :yay: )

I just started physical therapy today on my knee for a patellar tilt. Once that's done in a few weeks I hope to gradually increase mileage, frequency & speed with no ill effects.

Happy running everyone!

29 minutes on the Wii Fit today: some yoga, strength training and aerobics.

Allyson

WDWFLgal - Good luck with your recovery, and yay for no knee pain!

Allyson - Keep up the good work! How are you enjoying the Wii?

As for me, I've been keeping busy...
Boot camp on Tuesday
Running and biking on Wednesday
Swimming and boot camp today

Keep up the good work team!

Good week Heroes!

I just came in from 2.4 miles in 27 minutes, the fastest I've ever gone! I guess I have to give credit to Rihanna. I have a really old iPod Shuffle and when I was messing with it earlier I thought I loaded some songs on it but in fact had only loaded one. So I listened to Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" over and over and over and I guess it helped me pick up the pace! LOL!

For the week of July 5-July11

6.5 miles
106 minutes

Re:Wii Fit

I like it alot! I don't use it enough but would like to get in a routine of doing it on the days I don't run. I really think it is a helpful thing and it is fun! I unlocked the Advanced Step exercise yesterday and broke a sweat doing it!

Allyson :)

Thanks Allyson, I've got your totals in the sheet! Congratulations on having your fastest run ever! It is amazing what a little bit of music can do for your motivation. Keep up the good work!

Linda, great job on the running and biking!

disneyrunningnut 70.3 miles last week? :worship: That's super impressive!

As for me, boot camp was cancelled due to inclement weather, which considering we were under a tornado watch was fine by me. I made it to the pool for 1000m this morning. May get in a bike ride this afternoon...we'll see...long run scheduled for tomorrow.

Be sure to post your weekly totals for me. You can post on whatever day your workout week ends, be it Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Have a great weekend!

I can't wait until the vacations are over at work. I just run all over at work and heave shrimp everywhere.

I flung about 100 minutes worth of ice. The dreadmill is officially uncovered, hopefully I can get back on it for awhile.

Had a great week last week, 72.4 miles running. Ran 17.1 this morning so that gives me 136.8 miles and 1223 minutes so far this month.

David

Linda...biking & running is such a great combo. I usually bike at the gym but was looking into purchasing one for outdoors. Any recommendations?

David...your mileage is impressive. You rock!

Great job Allison. Music is the best motivator!

As for me, I walked/jogged 4.5 miles yesterday at 58:10. PT is going well & I can't wait to get some leg strength back. I'm looking to do 4 miles on Tuesday & Friday and then 6 on Sunday.

Angela - It all depends on what you think you might want to do with your bike. If you have any inklings of triathlon in the back of your head, skip the mountain bike and go for a road bike. A mountain bike is best if you plan on riding trails. If you want a more all around kind of bike, then look at hybrids (you can put road or mountain tires on more of a mountain frame), but bear in mind you probably wouldn't want this for a road race/tri/du. I'm pretty happy with my road bike. I can race with it, and it also is great for commuting in to work as well. Next year I'm hoping to do a 3 day charity ride!

Once you know what your intended use is going to be, then check out your local bike shop and they can show you what they have in your price range. Try them out and see what fits you the best. Bike fit is such a personal thing, just like running shoes. Also, it will take you a couple rides to get used to your saddle. Do not despair!

Good luck!

Saturday, the dbf's mother, sister, and I roamed all over NYC and logged about 8 miles. Do we get any bonus for lugging around all sorts of economic stimulation?...

I heaved another 45 minutes of ice.

Just got in, 2.4 miles, 25 minutes. The 3R/2W is really feeling good to me. I think next week I'll add a little on to my route and see how it goes.

Allyson

Sunday I ran 6 miles then biked the same 6 miles.
6miles today in 63:33.

I have to post as I do them. I cannot keep track in a weekly format. If that is not possible I will regretably have to back out of the team.

Angela- Leana offers you good advice. My bike is just a 18 speed from the store-nothing special. My brother has a Cannondale or Diamondback I would like to get my hands on,he doesn't use it.

Linda

Hello everyone!

I've been gone from these boards for quite awhile. I'm still having a few issues with my knees, but I've started working with a trainer and am starting to see some improvement.

That being said, I've decided to start training for a local 1/2 marathon in Oct. The YMCA is offering group training starting tonight, so I will be leaving for that soon. It does start out slow, but when I look at the training chart, it makes me hope that I can walk after next week.

Wish me luck!

Mary

No problem Linda. I'll try to keep track.

The month is going well for me so far. Lots of running, a bit of biking, swimming and boot camp.

Totals so far for July: 23:46:02, 126.5 Mi

Thanks Leana,
Unfortunately I may be sidelined for a while anyway,I'll see how it goes.I don't know if I have shin splints(never had them before) or if I have a stress fracture in my left leg.WOW it is painful.I'm watching to see if it subsides a little then maybe I could walk and bike.

Thanks,
Linda

I am happy to say that I did 3.5 miles today and have next-to-no knee pain!  I wore one of those bands that goes just below your knee cap and it worked wonders.

This brings my total to 9.5 miles for the week.
