TEAM 5: HERC'S HEROES - August Miles and Hours Post Here!

Way to go Leana!!! Nice way to PR in the 5K, after biking and swimming :) You should post a warning, "Don't try this at home".

I am sure you will PR again when you ONLY run a 5K.

David

Thanks David! I had a blast at my first tri. I think I may like the multisport thing a bit better than just straight running... My friend suggested the same thing to me - that I should try to run a standalone 5K to see how fast I could go.

I went for a run last night and a swim this morning. Both were just kind of okay... Tonight I have boot camp and it is focusing on core.

Numbers update:

Week 8/1-8/7:
315 min - Running (25.8 miles)
180 min - Weight training
20 min - Yoga
515 min, 25.8 miles

Week 8/8-8/14 (as of 8/11):
213 min - Running (17.1 miles + bonus 13.1 for 1/2 = 30.2 miles)
60 min - Weight training
20 min - Yoga
293 min, 30.2 miles

1/2 marathon went well. Weather was perfect (67 degrees at start - which is impressive for Chicago in August). Decided to attempt a PR and break 2:30. Started with the 2:30 pace group that was doing R8/W2. That was challenging since I am used to R5/W1. Kept up for ~6 miles then all of a sudden I couldn't find the leader's flag. Went back to my R5/W1 pattern and finished at 2:40. I use my iPod with the Nike+ and my distance showed 13.69 miles. It's not unusual for me to be .2-.3 off but over 1/2 mile seemed like a lot. My brother has a Garmin and his distance was 13.5. He was talking to a bunch of competitive runners after the race and they all thought the course was too long and was about 13.4 miles. It doesn't matter to me but there were a lot of people that were trying to qualify for a preferred start corral in the Chicago Marathon and this race was the last chance to qualify. If the course was long, then at least my pace during this run and the 1/2 I ran in May is consistent.

Leana - I read your tri report on your blog. Congrats on the day! One of my 2009 goals is to break 30 minutes in the 5K and to see you did that after swimming and biking is amazing!

David - If I don't run longer than 3 hours, then I'm done at 14. I've already run 16 and 18 milers. My first attempt at 18 took about 4 hours (with a lot of walking the last few miles), so I assume my first attempt at 20 will take about 4 1/2 hours. I will run it twice since I can get used to running for that long and have an opportunity to improve before the big day. My goal is (1) to finish and (2) to finish under 6 hours. My stretch goal is to finish under 5:30 but I don't know how realistic that is. If I can keep my 1/2 marathon pace for 13.1 more miles, then it's possible.

Allyson - A short run is better than no run at all. 2 1/2 years ago, I couldn't run down the block - now a 1.4 mile run seems short. Isn't that crazy?

Shan - 8 miles is 8 miles regardless of over how many days. Keep it up!

Lisa - Congratulations on your half! Sometime those courses are a bit long, or if you wind up having to weave in and out of people it is amazing how much the miles can add up. I think I measured about 27 miles at the Disney full in January. I looked at it as getting my money's worth, but when I was hurting during the last half of the race it didn't really help to make me feel better though!

I just did 2.11 miles in 33 minutes. I put on my Half play list and I was striding towards the castle, if only in my mind...

Currently preparing for a 5k on Thursday. I'm nervous since it's my first race since the WDW half and my sciatic problems really hampered my training. But, I am in the mindset that I will not do a personal best, but just try to do my best for now.

Did 3 miles in 33 minutes today.

If only now I knew how to count the hours, and hours, up and down hills we spent at the Cinn. zoo today. Wow, that place is hilly.

 hi everyone sorry to MIA lately.

I have not really kept my hours just distance. I will work on better record keeping:)

week 8/1-8/7 total miles = 13 miles walking

so far this week 9 miles

Gecko - Good luck on your race today! Hopefully your sciatic will stay in check for the race. Let us know how the race goes! I had meant to tell you that I'm so glad that you found your cat the other day!

Cinderella - Welcome back!

As for me, I've gotten in a couple of runs so far this week, along with a couple of swims and boot camp. Tonight is total body night at boot camp, then a long run of 8 miles. I've dialed the activity back a bit since I'm supposed to be tapering for my marathon next weekend!

I did the race, after working on my feet for nine hours. I hit the start line and felt it in my legs, I had next to nothing. The heat was brutal. I pushed myself to do the best I could, not to hurt myself, but try. I ran through the sprinklers and stuff the people had out to cool off. Helped a little. My boyfriend's mom (wdw4us) passed me during mile 2. But the heat and working just killed me. The last stretch is going up a steep hill, and I did run up it. Finished with a clock time of 47 minutes, will post the official chip time when I get it.

So, 3.1 miles and 43:51 (race goodness).

Under 45 minutes, woohoo!

Hi Team:goodvibes

Just added up my miles for last week--

17.5 miles and 5.5 hours.

Sorry, I'm having a hard time getting my longer walks in. :confused3

Hiya,
Well, must say I HATE breaking in new shoes. Ouch!! :scared1:

Did 2 miles (Walking) 30 minutes

3 miles this morning, 39 minutes

I am sticking with my R3/W2 right now but had an extended walk break in the middle when I hit my nemesis, the Madix Hill as we call it (there is a business at the bottom called Madix). This hill just crushes me and I get to the bottom and I just look at it and wilt. I have made it halfway once running but that is it. Today I hit the bottom and just started walking. Someday I'll conquer it! At least today I conquered getting out of bed and getting in a run! LOL!

Allyson

So week August 9-August 15
4.1 miles
57 minutes

Reporting in for the week.

8.36 miles / 1:54:32
+
warmups & cooldowns
1.50 miles / 30:00
=
9.86 miles / 2:24:32

Go team! :woohoo:

Half way through August already. The weather here in SC has been great this week.

So far this month I have run 137.6 miles in 1215 minutes.

David

Did 2.05 miles in 30 minutes plus 60 minutes of shoveling.

That 5k lit me up to be determined to beat the 3 hour mark at WDW half. Even more, the dbf!

Hi Team:goodvibes

Just checking in with my totals for this week--August 8-14:

27.5 miles and 7.5 hours.

It looks like my totals from week one were put in the spot for week two--hope it is not too much trouble to change. If so just put this week in for week one, I don't want to make more work for you. By the way, thanks so much for taking on the duties of captain Leana!:flower3:

I DID IT!!! I ran my first 20 miler on Saturday! It was probably the most challenging physical activity of my life. The best part is that I was able to walk around today without any pain. I'm really happy to think that I won't be running any distance longer than this until I repeat my this run 3 weeks before the big day! My reward to myself - today I signed up for another 1/2 marathon in September. I must be nuts..... :confused3

Now I can relax and look forward to my next 1/2: 2 weeks from today in Disneyland :yay:
