To all those teachers out there ---

When do you visit WDW? I've been going in the summertime, but now that we are planning a week long trip (our longest so far) for 2008, I was curious to see when people go...

Thanks!

Hi - another CT teacher here!
I went in August last year and I'm doing the same this year. My district does not allow us to use personal days for vacation, so my times are limited. I can pretty much choose summer, Christmas week, spring vacation week, or a quick trip in Feb. since we only get a long weekend for Presidents' Day, not a whole week. Good luck with whatever you choose and have a great time! :)

We usually go in late August before school starts for us, but it has already started for FL schools. It is really hot but the crowds are less.

DH is a public high school teacher. We went to WDW over Easter break once -- very crowded but beautiful weather. DH says NEVER AGAIN. We went in August last year, it was terribly hot and humid (but not much worse than here in August, lol). Not as crowded as Easter break, so this year we are going in August again.

I love to go on Spring Break, which for us is always the 1st week in April. However, we will NOT go if Easter falls on one of our 2 weekends. Did that once, and will not do it again! We went this year on New Year's Day since we had the whole week off. It was wonderful! by the 3rd the parks had really cleared out. It was kind of strange though, wearing hats and gloves in Florida!! :goodvibes

I am using personal days to go this October. Unfortunately, DH owns a pool business and can't do summers, my spring break doesn't match DD's spring break, so I chose a week in October when we had two days off and I'm using my 3 allotted personal days. The problem is...my district just went and changed the dates that we were going to be off until the following week.
My principal is very understanding, and I'm going ahead with the time we booked, but I won't do it again, it's a one time deal. We'll have to fight the masses at Christmas from now on! LOL.

Next week! Seriously, school starts for us (the teachers 8/3), so we're going the week before for a getaway. We just go and don't worry too much about the crowds, temperature, etc. We go often enough that we can pace ourselves and not go on killer trips. (We've been at Christmas a lot in the past five years, but I think we'll skip Christmas for a few years. I enjoy the water parks and pools too much.)

We always go in the hot summer. We'll be there again this August.
I'd love to be able to just pull my kids out of school and go when there are no holidays, and the weather is just right. :sad2:

We have always traveled to WDW during the summer, but this year I will have saved two years worth of personal days to celebrate my 50th at the EPCOT Flower & Garden Show. Now, my bday is in April, but before the F&G Show begins. So, I postponed going until May. But, we have another round of standardized testing scheduled for May, so I had to wait until after my students are finished with all of that. My April 8th trip is now scheduled for May 11th!! But, won't it be fun to be at WDW when everyone else is in school?! I can't wait. We're already preparing our daily itinerary and talking about restaurants. I know we'll change our plans over and over, but that's all part of the fun. Whenever you get to go, enjoy the trip. Then, plan for those October trips when you retire. They're all good!

1st grade teacher here...

*Every May for about 8 days. We pull DD11 & DS8 & MYSELF out of school to go.
*This year, we also pulled them out in January to go for 9 days...so we went twice this year. :cool1: :cool1:

I use my sick days, any personal days I have & I make it work. It is soooo nice to go in the off season. It also helps that I'm good friends with the school secretary!!! :rolleyes1

Late July or Early August. Would love to go at Christams again but haven't been able to.

We get a week off at Thanksgiving so we usually go then. The first part of the week is always nice but the last part is crazy! Although next time I am going to use personal leave and arrive Thanksgiving weekend and stay for the week. I think we have the right to see the World when it is not so crowded too!

Always in the summer. I get three personal days a year. I can carry over two if I don't use them, so I pretty much start every year with five, but I have yet to use them for a vacation during the year. It is so difficult to plan for a week off and then play catch up when you return, even if it's only for a day or two. I can't imagine what a week off would be like. Retirement is approaching and I look forward to visiting in the off season. In fact, the retirement plans are to move to and work at WDW.

We can't use sick days for anything but being sick. I guess that's why I have 178 of them.

School holidays only, unfortunately but this year three times.....thank you maternity leave!!!! :)

I have done several things. I have gone in the summer-usually in June (It's a great thing to look forward to at the end of the year=but very hot!!) I went this year during spring break-I got lucky and my sisters had break at the same time. Last year, I took a friday and monday off and went the first week of december. This year, I am running out of town right after school on the first day of christmas break!
Wow!! I need to feel lucky I guess because the schools I have been at are not all that strict on sick days, etc.

We have gone in August (third week and free dining) and we have gone the week before Christmas (returning home on the 23rd.) My kids and I have different Spring Breaks! I hate that but I probably would not go then anyway because of the crowds.

I wish I could use personal or sick days...Unfortunately, I can't!

Spring Break....with cold Ohio winters, it is great to go to warm weather! I practically race my students out of the building!

We usually go in August. It works out well since my anniversary & daughter's b'day are all on the same day in August. So we do a week long celebration, Disney style. The only downer is I look so forward to it all summer that I practically wish my summer by. It leaves me with great memories though to go back to school with. I did "Jersey Week" in November in Disney back in '97. That was cool too, meeting so many fellow Jerseyans down there, especially teachers. August may be extremely hot down there but it works for us.

Our family gone during spring break - ours is tied to a local golf tournament so it is sometimes when "everyone else" is off and sometimes not. The year we did that was the week following the huge crowds. It was wonderful - our best trip ever. Two years ago DH and I went in July. This year we are going in October when we are off for Fall Break. I am using two personal days to make our stay 7 days. We are not really supposed to add personal days to the end of a school vacation but I have already cleared this with the principal - it helps that I've never done this before. I've heard great things about October - hope they are true! :)
