There are always a lot of threads complaining about teachers, my own included. So how about a thread Honoring those teachers that do make a positive difference.

My ds's preschool teacher is AWESOME! She loves kids, it seems as if all they do is play and yet my son has learned so much in 2 years! AND she is a Disney fan. She has a Mickey Antenna Topper! :)

well I have to say that I have loved all of Cams teachers ( so far knock on wood) They have all been very accomodating by giving him advanced work so he stays interested. They have all been good people with strong convictions. Ive been very Impressed!

Karissa's teachers are also wonderful and patient.

My DS8's kindergarten teacher was AWESOME. Unfortunately for us though, she won the Golden Apple Award the year before DS got into school and took a sabatical for the first half of the year. I really think DS8 would have benefited much more had she been there the entire school year.

Her last kindergarden class will be the year DS3 is there. After that, she'll be retiring. I'm not sure what I will need to do, but I will somehow make sure that DS3 benefits from having her as a teacher.

Can't say enough about DD's math teacher. This is her second year with him and he is wonderful. She's taking an accelerated math class which is pretty difficult. Anytime she needs extra help, he's there. He's been a teacher for over 35 years and it hasn't sapped any of his joy of teaching. I only wish he could move up to the high school where she'll be next year. :(

My son's 4th grade teacher is amazing! She goes so far over and above what the other 4th grade teachers do, its unreal. She also spends a lot of her own money on extra projects and supplies. She also was one of the teachers chosen to live in Antarctica for 6 months for a special project. She's really a fascinating person.

What has impressed me the most though is a few years ago she had a student whose mom died of cancer. The father was never in the picture so an aunt adopted this girl and her younger sister. 3 weeks later, the aunt died of a massive heart attack. My son's teacher ended up adopting the 2 girls and has done an incredible job with them. She already had 4 kids of her own, but she treats them all equally. I really can't say enough about Mrs. Trummel!!!

My DD's K1 and K2 teacher was the same woman. She was exactly they needed to grow and enjoy school. She had the perfect balance of nurturing with school mom attitude. She never had a harsh word and in all the time I have known her, have seen her loose her temper only once.

The teacher they have this year is also wonderful and is motivating, positive and challenging.

My oldest has had awesome teachers. This just isn't one of those years, but she will be going to an awesome JR High next year :)

Thank you for starting this positive thread. After a long day of trying my best to teach close to 150 junior high students, it is nice to come home to The DIS and see positive messages about my profession rather than negative ones. We get enough complaining at school from our kids.

Hats off to all fellow teachers on The DIS- glo, KTeacher, bobcat, Sonya, JohnTBap, Tinkbell, and others who I can't remember off the top of my head!

My son's teachers have been terrific. Yeah teachers!

Just jumping in to add a big thank you to the teachers also.

Being a substitute teacher (middle/high school) who has just finished a 3 month assignment, I found that teachers put in more hours than parents realize.

My oldest ds had the most awesome 3rd grade teacher. He was a young guy and the kids loved him. He never yelled at the and he was so proud of their accomplishments.
I will never forget when my ds TAAS (our state test) came back and he scored very high in both area's. His teacher was so excited pulled me into the room and you have to see this and showed Michael's test to me. He seemed every bit as proud as I felt.

My DD's Kindergarten teacher is excellent. She is great with kids and has eliminated all the worries that I had about sending my DD to school. My DD has some medical problems and her teacher went way above and beyond to make sure my DD is taken care of and her meds are given on time, which is very important because me DD could get low blood sugars and have seizures if she doesn't get them at an exact time. She has made my DD feel very "normal" and because of her she loves school and has such a desire to learn. (She is actually reading books to me at the age of 6) I can't say enough good things about my DD's teacher. I have made a new friend and treasure her so much. If you ask my DD who her best friend is this year she will tell you her teachers name.

The only problem is she can't move through school with her.

Her teacher last year for K4 was also great and I worried like crazy when she moved to Kindergarten. Turns out I didn't need to worry at all. I hope every year is the same.

My DS#2 has the most wonderful 1st grade teacher! DS#1 also had the same teacher when he was in 1st grade. Mrs. M is creative, kind, genuinely likes kids, extremely patient and does an awesome job teaching the multi-age class. We have a really good relationship with her and I treasure it!!! :bounce: :bounce:

As a 40 something Elementary Education Major I have been subing as often as possible to get my feet wet in teaching. As suspected I both really enjoy teaching and have even more respect for those who do it full time. I also tutor at a juvenile prison as a volunteer and find this as rewarding.
As a male in a predominately female career I hope to continue to be a positive role model and look forward to the day I finally finish my degree. The truth is I am taking a monetary pay cut but a raise in self satisfaction, worth and sense of purpose.
It's a shame it is a relatively low paying career choice. I'll never become a millionaire teacher or even meet one, but i don't know one millionaire that didn't have one.

My daughters have the most awesome viola professor at FIU. When my oldest had to have surgery on her wrist and shoulder she was at another university in the city. The professor there was very unsympathetic. This professor heard through the grapevine about the surgery and called her to ask how he could help in her rehab. He had been her high school viola teacher (did both high school and college credit at the same time). She ended up transferring and then her sister did also. He is like a second dad to them both

bfeller did you ever teach in Miami? My oldest had an awesome pair of 5th grade teachers and one was Mrs Feller.

My sons have both been very lucky to have great teachers. My youngest son's current (1st Grade) teacher is fantastic! Have I mentioned she's even our very own DISChick???? :teeth:

Talking Hands, I haven't taught in Miami. I just started subbing about 3-4 years ago. I sub in the same school district that my children attend. I have even been their sub.

SonjaH-How did you figure out that DISChick was your Ds's teacher? I think there's a story there......

Charles Cassidy - English teacher from Coxsackie-Athens Central School - 1970's!

This man was the most compassionate and passionate man about his subject - English. He was always making us strive for the best in our poems, short stories and acting. I knew my life would be in medical but I loved to write and once he told me, "You may make a living by working in the medical field but you will make your life by writing."

Sure enough, I spent my years as an RN, but once I started to write again, my life began. Although my first play was dedicated to my daughter, Mr. Cassidy remains the inspiration for all my work. I can still hear him say, "If this is your best, then let is rest!"

God love ya' Mr. Cassidy - whereever you are!

Rae
