I adore my DD's kindergarten teacher. I would like to help my DD make something for him to give to him at the end of the week. The problem ... I'm not all that "crafty" and I right now I have no (zero, zilch) ideas. So, I thought I would come to my good friends at the DIS and ask for ideas. There are a number of craft stores in the area and price is really no object. It just has to be something that my 5 1/2 year old DD will be able to work on and finish.

Anyone? :wave2:

You can get sponges and paint and decorate a pot, and then buy her a nice flower you can plant in it.

I could use ideas too. Does anyone know if teachers get class pictures every year? I mean, do they buy/get one? They recently got class pictures back and I'm thinking of painting and decorating a frame for the class pictures. What do you think? Do they get them? Will they like this? Should I do something else? Any other ideas? BTW, DS is in Pre-K. He has 2 awesome teachers who totally go above and beyond. They made each parent a CD of pictures of their child through the school year. They also made a DVD and copied it for everyone of the school year. She spent a lot of time editing it and such. It was so awesome. I really love them, and want to do something special for them. For christmas, I made them personalized tote bags. I want to do something equally as special for Teacher's appreciation day and for the end of the school year. I guess this can serve as both? Or should I get them another gift at the end of the year?

OH, and I do have pictures (from the CD she gave me) of the whole class different times, on halloween all dressed up, in front of the fire truck, etc. I could do something with that. Any ideas? I jsut don't want to give them a gift that they dont like or won't use. Input from teachers? What woudl you like?

Our local craft store, Michaels, sell plain canvas bag bags, you know the kind that you stuff plastic bags into. Anyway, I have bought these and let the kids decorate them and the teacher can use it in the classroom. Most teachers keep bags around for sending things home or accidents...just a thought.

How about something simple, like a thank you letter (perhaps printed by your child) with a picture?

Anything from the heart would be appreciated!!

My DS's kindergarten class (years ago) gave the teacher a picture album with pics of all the kids. The room mom took them over a week's time and gave it to her at the end of the year. It was very appreciated!

Hi! I'm coming back to the thread that I started to give you an update. Thanks for all the great ideas.

I bought a small 4" clay pot and let my DD pick out an african violet. I wanted her to paint it, but all we had were tempra-type paints that wouldn't do the job. So, I went to one of our craft stores and told them what I wanted to do. They had the perfect paints ... ones specifically for terra cotta! I bought a set of 8 colors with just about 2 tablespoons of paint per color, just enough for a few pots. The paint covered the pot well, it dried quickly and washed off easily. Plus, since it's designed for this very thing it's weather-proof and won't crack.

I also bought a $25 gift certificate from Office Max.

My DD did her first pass tonight and she'll do some details tomorrow. Honestly, the paint dries so fast she could have done the extras over the existing paint in just a couple of hours.

My son loves Barnes and Noble and loves to give gift cards from there. His teachers have always loved the gift cards. We'll be giving them to his first grade teacher and her assistant in a little gift bag with sticky memo pads, pens, pencils and stickers from our last trip to WDW. (I like to stock up on teacher supplies at WDW. His teacher this year is a HUGE Disney fan.) I'll also be putting some Beauti Control samples in there since I sell those products.

I'm making my son's teachers tote bags. I had all the kids and the 2 teachers draw a self portrait. I scanned these in and printed them on inkjet fabric. There are 12 pics on each side. I quilted in all the sashing strips but not on the pics. The pics are 3 1/2" in the finished one. I have to do the linings and handles today. I hope his teachers like them.

At the end of my DD's year in K4 another mother and I took a terra cotta pot and put the thumb print of each of the kids on it, after it dried, we made each thumb print into a bug with eyes, legs and antenna's (sp?). Then we put each childs name under their "bug". Around the rim we painted, "Thanks for Helping Us Grow" and planted a flower in it.

The teacher loved it and she still has it on her front porch with a flower planted in it, DD is now in 2nd grade.

Oh how cute! I still have time to steal the thumbprint bug and "Thanks for helping me grow". My DD's teacher would love that!
