My sons don't believe gift cards are a "real" gift ;). So, I wanted to get a little something to go along with the Target gc's I am getting their teachers. One of them has a first year teacher, so I was thinking of getting some stamps or stickers for papers. Any suggestions on where to get them? Our teacher store closed. Or, is there any other thing a new teacher would need?

TIA :goodvibes

That is so sweet of you! Some ideas:

*Stamps that have "Good job" type messages are wonderful as they run out and need to be replaced.

*Most teachers love gel pens in fun colors (to grade papers)

*Scratch and sniff stickers

*gift cards? lakeshorelearning.com or reallygoodstuff.com

Depends on the grade and type of school I am a first year teacher and stickers a re low on my priority list. I work in an urban school setting in a very low income area so my needs are different than other needs.
I need things I can decorate the room to reflect the cultures apparnet in my room. That means more Hispanic/Latino and African American based classroom decorations.

Nice programmable timer so I can move the students from station to station in my learning centers with less disruption.

I am in a middle school. I am always in need of things that interest teenagers. This includes teenage based books, maybe s comfortable reading nook area - I can't implement this now however, my classroom behavior is rough now.. this may be an end of year project.

Check on the type of board they have. Do they still ahve chalk, white board or a smartboard? I always need supplies like that. I run out pencils/pens.

A nice stapler or electric pencil sharpener are great gifts too...

I love colorful grading pens, but not too light
Scratch and sniff stickers
Decorated post-its
Gift card to a local teacher store
Volunteer coupons--where you donate time to come read to students, or help manage students while she runs small groups
CHOCOLATE! :)

Walmart has a decent little sticker section near their greeting cards. Also, Family Christian Bookstore has a fair number of stickers. At the one I go to, some are obviously Christian in nature but many are generic stickers. As someone else mentioned, I'd go on the Lakeshore website and see what you find there. We have a Lakeshore store nearby and they are a great source of stamps and stickers, with lots of scratch 'n sniff choices (a huge hit with younger kids).

Good luck! I think it's a nice idea. :)

Oriental Trading usually has good sticker sets at a good price.

I think the goodie bag idea is great! Teahcers often need to supply their own tissues, but that's not a fun gift, lol. How about some cute little bottles of hand sanitizer? (Bath and Body, maybe?) Wet Ones?

I know these sound silly, but more and more comes out of teachers' pockets. I've even heard of some really poor areas needing teachers to bring toilet paper!

Our first grader also has a first year teacher this year. When the weather is inclement, and the children can't go outside for recess, they stay indoors during recess and play games. We plan to buy Candyland for the class since my daughter reports that is missing! :) I think a book to donate for the classroom collection is also a nice idea.

As a former first year teacher , I think the best gifts are anything you think that teacher would love. Avoid weird looking nick nacks and candles as those often are not needed for the room. My favorite/most used gifts I have received are a beautiful pencil holder, a post it notes holder with post its, a coffee mug that I put bookmarks in, a nice little hand painted tray that I set up at my house for decoration, a set of pens, a cute little eraser and a bracelet.

suggestions-
primary grades (K-3)- stickers/stamps, pens, cool picture books, class puzzles/games, timer, apple themed stuff, crayons/markers etc
intermediate grades (4-6)- pens, dry erase markers, post its, hand sanitizers, chapter books, mugs/pencil cups/organizers, erasers/pencils/markers etc.
junior high/high school- school supplies, mugs, dry erase markers

Good luck and that's super nice of you to think about your child's teacher...I know he/she will appreciate whatever you send

I don't know if you have a Becker Brothers teacher store near you, but they have lots of stickers and teacher supplies, as well as books for the classroom. They are also online here http://www.shopbecker.com/ .

My first graders loved scratch and sniff stickers, Mr. Sketch scented markers write really well and rarely dry out. Stamps and different colored ink pads with ink refill bottles if available are great (ie I used the green stamp pad for Christmas, St Patrick's Day and spring stampers). I put out puzzles for inside recess as well (from the dollar store in varying piece amounts).

I bought a cute snowman wicker basket at michaels when it was on sale. I chose a winter theme instead of Christmas so that she could use it as a catch all on her desk for the entire winter. Filled it with personalized sticky notes, notecards, stampers and other free stuff from vistaprint.com. Added multi color dry erase markers since our schools use white boards. And bath and body works foaming anti bacterial soap b/c there are sinks in all of the grade school classrooms. I also threw in colored pencils, markers, packets of regular pencils and pens, colorful paper clips, alligator clips, and magnetic clips. I got almost all of that stuff for very little cash by grabbing sale items before school started. I also gave her a nice gift card for dunkin donuts b/c I noticed that was where she would stop for coffee every morning before starting her day.

As a teacher we gave a "classroom Christmas wish list" to our students.

These included:
white board and over head projector markers. Those do run out.
Tissue
Hand Sanitizer
Hand soap
Stickers- they're always nice
pencils and erasers
snacks

rainy day items like books, boardgames, and puzzles are always welcome!

One word: CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!!!

Not kidding...I love to reach in my candy drawer and pull our a small candy bar just to give me a pick me up!

K teacher here. I love fun post-it notes & many times you can get those at the Dollar Spot at Target. Other things:

-a favorite book or 2 of your childs to add to the classroom library
-Highlighters, Sharpies & Dry Erase markers in various colors (I use them to divide stuff on the board & the highlighters are used in small groups to help with letter recognition)
-Kid friendly DVDs, puzzles & games for rainy day recess

The 2 things I spend the most out of pocket money on are books & supplies for my work stations/learning centers. If your childs' teacher has centers you might ask if she needs any supplies for these centers.

Since you have plenty of time, go and register with vistaprint.com. You will start getting almost daily emails, but they offer tons of things for free with a minimal shipping charge. You can go and design things with the teachers name on them. I have ordered tons of stuff from them. I've created several stamps, post its, notecards, labels, pens, notebooks, and they are all personalized. As a teacher myself, I would love to receive these items, and I love gift cards too!;)

a post it notes holder with post its

I love my post-it pop-ups thing, and it's something a first-year teacher wouldn't necessarily buy for herself, but it is surprising how much more convenient it is to get a post-it from it!

The other thing I have at my desk that I LOVE is a very thick pad of paper. I got it from Target years ago and there's still plenty left, and it has a fun design around the border. It's just a big square pad, but I really love it. I think they have them back again!

Candyland and Chutes & Ladders is $1 this week at Toys R Us after a $2 mail in rebate.
