Ok, I have a question for you, but I'm not going to tell you my opinion on it (right now anyway). I'm just curious what you guys think.
A parent gives their child's preschool teachers an end of the year gift. The gift is a gift certificate, for an independent mini-market, and can be used towards gas or the deli. The parents own the mini market. Basically, no monetary output from the parents, with a possibility that more money will go into their business from the recipient of the gift certificate.
What is your opinion on this scenario? Again, I'm just curious....

I think giving a gift certificate to a small store, whether the parents owned it or not, is a great gift. It supports local business.
