Well, being inspired by a post here, I did something new for the holidays. I am a teacher and this year I requested specific gifts from my students. Before I am flamed, I asked my room parent to spread the word that I did not want holiday gifts for me. I get tons of soap, lotion, etc as well as gift cards every year I never use. I wanted my students to take the money they would spend on me and either buy food for a food bank, or a gift from a giving tree at the local mall. I cannot find the original thread with the ideas of charity for teachers, but it is what gave me the idea. Anyway, the moms have organized a party for my students on a Saturday to make food packets for the local food bank. My kindergarteners will be bagging rice, noodles, and beans for the poor to be used in a kitchen shopping pantry for the needy. Thanks to whomever gave me the idea. My students are really excited to be doing this. They are talking about it at recess. I am glad that because of someone heres suggestion, we are helping those in need, and teaching the joy of helping others to my students. Thanks again.
