Teacher forced to resign over inappropriate pics on her phone. Something is just wrong here

Ohhhhh, so now respect is a Northern thing.
Really???
Are you flipping kidding?

Try telling that to my husband, who was from the Detroit area... Hahahahahaha!!!!
TOO funny!
Thanks for the laugh!
You just made my morning!!!

What a clearly false and unwarranted statement.
Are you seriously going to denigrate me and the South in one sentence.
Wow, your goooood!!!!!

Thank you.

*starts previewing his "trying too hard" pic folder*

I gotta pick just the right one.

Up here in the north we teach respect for others property. Are there thefts, sure there are but in places like classrooms a teacher can reasonably expect that there personal property will be respected in a classroom full of people.

Heck yeah! I live in the south and I got pert near 20 cell phones I picked up offa folks. I aint found no nekkid pitchers tho...

While I don't agree with him, you are doing nothing more than proving his point. :headache:

Yes, my opinion might possibly change.
I don't know about firing the teacher without some due process...
But, my opinion of the teacher MIGHT change.

But now that I am seeing this on the mainstream morning news, TWO things actually reinforce my opinion/judgment of this woman, and so, no, my thoughts will not change.

1. The school said that it seems her phone was often out in the classroom, and students were allowed to use it.

2. And this is another big kicker for me... This teacher is on camera talking about some "expectation of privacy"..... On an unlocked device that was not put away, in a classroom? Ummm, okaaaaayyyyy. That says all I need to know.

PS: I do think that the school has gone overboard in their actions... In many cases a teacher could do FAR worse, such as alleged inappropriate relationship with a child, and still get plenty of due process.

When we talk about due process...was she forced to resign or pressured to resign? In other words, did the school say "Resign so we don't have to investigate you for xyz, you can teach somewhere else and the district doesn't look bad" or "resign or we will fire you immediately"
As a teacher, being under investigation for something possibly sexual could kill your career, so I could see how she was pressured, but she might have given up her due process by resigning

No, just the real world.
Seriously... Have you not seen the info and the stats... The news stories.
Phones are one of, if not THE, most at risk stolen items...
It is epidemic.
And, while I don't know specifics, I would imagine that a good percentage of these thefts are pulled off by teens and young adults.

Just going by the reality here.

Taking reasonable steps to secure your property, like a cell phone, is definitely necessary in "the real world". Agreed on that. I would never leave my phone in plain sight in an unlocked vehicle. If dining alone, I wouldn't leave my phone on the table and go use the restroom. Scenarios like this are irresponsible and I would assign some blame to the owner in those cases if the phone or content on the phone was stolen. But to leave your phone on your own desk in your own classroom surrounded by people you know? I just don't find that to be irresponsible. I find it to be a normal, every day occurrence that most of us are probably guilty of. I definitely am, and if it happened to me, I would not be saying "my fault, I left the pic on there". I'd be reaming the person who had the audacity to touch my personal belongings.

I think the teacher did nothing wrong except not have her phone locked and that society is in a horrible state if a class of 16 YEAR OLD Students can't be expected to respect the teacher's personal property while she is in the hall for a few moments. These students are old enough to drive but can't keep there hand to them selves for 5 minutes. I've seen Kindergarten classes better behaved than that. The student should be charged to the fullest extent of the law Stealing and distributing pornographic material to minors (although I hesitate to call it that) The teacher rightfully had an expectation of privacy on a personal device.

Totally agree. It's not only that the student went through her phone though. The lack of respect for her as a person and as a teacher is worse. Actually taking a picture of the picture and distributing among other people is such violation. The fact that not only was he not punished and she was but also that people are blaming her is just gross.
