I would really like you guys opinion. Would it be okay to take our 7 year old to the Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian? She is normally pretty well behaved especially if I explain to her this is a nice place where we need to be on our best behavior.
If yes is there a better time to go like towards beginning or end?

We have a non park trip in August and I would really like to do something we don't always do.

1) We took granddaughters at age-5 and age-9.
2) They had a great time.
3) They liked being pampered.

NOTE1: The "Tea" is in a gracious atmosphere overlooking the pool and gardens of the Grand Floridian. A relaxing way to put a civilized break into your hectic park day. A negative for the true tea aficionado, is they serve only Pekoe (OP) grade for non-green tea. Reservations are almost a must. Casual "park attire" is fine, or you can "dress up". You order packages. Anyone can order any package; except being no alcohol for the underage drinkers. Plan upon 1½-2 hours if you do it right and enjoy a relaxing respite. It may sound "stuffy" or "uppity", but not really. It's just people in a quite and sedate atmosphere. Hours: 2:00pm-5:00pm, except December when hours are 1:00pm-5:00pm. Now, you guys don't get discouraged or feel out of place (well, at least not TOO much). There are other gents that get-roped-into-going (I mean join their spouses). Actually, it is a pleasant experience for us dudes. After all, look at all the Englishmen that do it. OK so not the best example, but you WILL enjoy it.

NOTE2: This is not up to the par of either High Tea or the Afternoon Tea, but it is a good way to spend an afternoon. As an FYI, High Tea and Afternoon Tea are different. "High Tea" is a later-afternoon event with more food, including meats. Also note that the "clotted cream" isn't, and they charge for additional pots of tea. Yeah, I know, it it pretty cheap and cheesy. I actually prefer the Tea at Waldorf Astoria on property and it's less expensive than the WDW Tea, even for the better selections. We enjoyed "Tea" at The Savoy and The Claridge's. The GF Tea does not rise to the quality of either. Take a cab to The Waldorf on property; better pricing, better teas, better service.
.
NOTE3: No longer can you order ala carte. You MUST order a package. With package, you may add ala carte items. It seems lots of folks came and did not spend a lot of money. They would just do ala carte. In fact, some simply ordered tea and nothing to eat, or just a few pastries. Disney is in the biz of big revenue, hence the change. Dollars-per-chair-per-hour. The Afternoon Tea is not on the Disney Dining Plan. No sharing of plates to reduce the price per-person.
Sample ala carte items (subject to change):
. . . British Cheese Plate $14.50
. . . Gentlemen's Tea Platter (berries, cheese) $12.00
. . . Assorted Tea Sandwich Plate (five sandwiches) $10.00
. . . English Blue Stilton Cheese $8.50
. . . Strawberries & Cream $6.95
. . . English Triffle $6.95
. . . Scones with Devonshire Cream $3.50
. . . Jam Tarts $3.50
.
NOTE4: Disney changed the menu and prices, again - and keep raising them, as is not covered under DDP, so prices can "float" with no notice. The prices are now OUTRAGEOUS; maybe the famous PT Barnum was put in charge of the menu & pricing. The prices are ridiculously high. I have taken The WDW Tea off my recommended list. We do not expect to return to it soon. I have taken The WDW Tea off my recommended list for guests who come to my desk.

Yes, I think she would love it. They really have stepped up their game. We had tea there on a Thursday afternoon at 12:15, ( Oct 2016) me and MIL. Perfect time, not too early, not too late. Service was very good. Tasty treats. I think we got the one for about $35 each?? We went previously I believe in like 2010 and it was not good or memorable. She was talking about it this past weekend, it was fun.

I took my then-7 yo during our last trip. Other than almost knocking over the teeny table we were seated at, we had a great time. They even gave her a pink rose afterward, and we went back to MK and the FoF parade was going on. Three photopass photographers saw us and led us down the little side street on the R side of Main Street as you're looking at the Hub and had a mini photo shoot with DD. I know that's not totally related to the Tea, but it was a pretty great afternoon. DD wants to get tea again in July.

I took my 7 year old and she loved it. She got real tea and almost drank her entire pot! She was jealous of our strawberries and cream so my mom and I shared ours since it was not part of the kid's package. She asks if we can do it again still.

She'll be fine! =) I took my 4 year old son last fall. I explained to him that he needed to be on his best behavior. The place was very quiet and proper so he understood how he needed to behave while dining. I think of it as lighter meal so I would time it based on your other meals that day.

Absolutely do it! My 3 girls are in HS and college now but the memory of bringing all three to the tea when they were 4,6,8 will be with me forever. We had a fabulous time and they loved it.

We took a 4 year old and she was perfect.

Rusty, I would take the a la carte info out of your review since you can't do it anymore. Unless they still let you order a la carte items once you've already done the packages for each person.

Last time we went was after the big changes started. No a la carte unless it was on top of the package. Strawberries and cream mass produced and no longer real whipped cream (now you can taste that it's spray stuff that's been sitting) or beautiful. Gorgeous china gone with clunky cheap china in its place.

I won't go anymore. I don't consider a package deal to be better. Our first time was in 2010 (just the girls then) and THAT is the time we remember as the best. We brought everyone in 2011 and it was great then too.

And then the changes started. :(

I just took my DD 7 and my niece 6, this past Sunday and they LOVED it. Cinderella and prince charming do the princess processional at 345, so they danced with them and then we had tea at 4pm. It worked out perfectly. They even gave them a rose at the end of the meal. They have a package called Mrs. Potts tea and it was $23. They got 3 tea sandwiches, a strawberry tart and choice of dessert (pastries, strawberries and cream or the trifle) plus a pot of tea or drink of choice.
