Tea party ideas

I am having a tea party this Saturday for the women of my family, it's being hosted by my DD.

I need some help with ideas. I somewhat have a menu, but would like more input on that and entertainment during the party. ????

I like finger sandwiches for a tea. Open faced sandwiches are really nice as well. I would suggest a sturdy bread for the base so that you can make them up a little ahead. Potato bread and those tiny rye slices work well.

chicken salad with chopped cranberries or grapes
cucumber on dilled cream cheese on rye
ham and cheese on pumpernickle triangles

lemon squares
little frosted brownies
chocolate dipped strawberries
fruit kabobs are so pretty and work well in place of a fruit salad

I woulld offer iced tea and lemonade and two different kinds of hot tea with honey and lemon.

I cannot help with entertainment.

Some fresh flowers in vases and a crisp white tablecloth would be nice for atmosphere. Some nice music would set the mood.

Entertainment? Does your little girl like to sing? There's not a more beautiful sound than a child singing.

Love the flowers and the singing

For my SISIL's wedding shower we had a tea. The woman put the flatware in napkins and tied them with curling ribbon. It was perfect because ther was not much room for flowers or table decorations. I also purchased little dishes at Marshalls (she has a valentines wedding so I bought heart shaped dishes for color) and put little mints in them.

Smilie- you can lift some of your serving pieces but turning bowl upside down and placing your platter on top. Also, if you choose to make a punch you can take a one of the covered cake servers, invert the stand and use the cover as the serving bowl. The handle on the top of the cover fits in the inverted base most of the time. That is really pretty.

I just went over to the What's for Dinner thread. Aimeedyan just had a shower and made these sandwiches. I thought that they would make a pretty summer tea sandwich. She also had some summer punch ideas that sounded very refreshing

Pineapple Nut Sandwiches
2 cups crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup sugar
1 cup chopped nuts
One 8-ounce package cream cheese
milk or mayonnaise (I didn't need)

In saucepan combine pineapple and sugar. Bring to boil. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Cool. Stir in nuts. Soften and mash cheese with enough milk or mayonnaise to make a good spreading consistency. Combine with pineapple mixture. Spread on thin bread, top as sandwich. Trim and cut into squares.

*This made a LOT of filling. I made all those sandwiches and ended up still not using some of it. Next time I'd half it.

My aunt likes to have tea parties and would serve scones with clotted cream and jelly, cucumber sandwiches and other finger sandwiches.

I'm not sure about ages but I went to a child's tea party recently. (Really I'll do anything for social and free food) The entertainment was decorating your own straw hat. The mom picked up lots of straw hats at Michaels and some ribbon and hat pins and big flowers and we decorated our hats. At the end of the tea we had a "fashion show" showing off our Sunday finest and our perky new hats. The girls went home with a hat, a picture and a little Miss Manners book.
