Tea at the Grand Floridian

My boyfriend loves tea and I was thinking about going to the GF for an afternoon break from MK on our next trip.

I'd like to hear thoughts from those who have been to the Garden View Tea Room

Love the afternoon tea at GF! Very classy and a great way to take a mid-afternoon break! We had the Buckingham Palace and it was just perfect!

We went to the Gardenview Lounge for tea 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. It was so relaxing. We ordered tea, of course, and some finger sandwiches and pastries. It was one of the nicest experiences we've had at WDW....I highly recommend it!!

We love it too! Elegant and delicious. I was my DS's must have reservation for this trip, since we couldn't talk my sister into it last time.

My family has been going here every trip for the past 5 years! It really is delicious and so relaxing. If you can, i highly recommend coming when it is mid-day in the parks where the crowds are heaviest and it's super hot. It's a nice break.

I had the tea by myself and enjoyed it. It was really good and delicious, although I did have two little things that I was surprised about. One - I got the gardenview tea blend and it was not brought out it a teapot, I had a glass pressed pot (just like a coffee pressed pot). Now, I unfortunately am a purist when it comes to afternoon tea and really was a little disappointed that I did not get a "china" pot with a cozy. I noticed that some people had pressed pots and some had china pots????? Also, the sandwhiches, while good, were very COLD.....almost like they had been defrosted, but not enough. I was not expecting a warm one, cool perhaps, but it was like they almost had ice crystals on them .

One other issue....but this is an issue I have with Disney dining in general. If you are a single person or couple dining, sometimes you are treated a little bit like a second class citizine. While my server took many minutes explaining to the other parties about the menue, teas, etc. this was not afforded to me....she was very personable and nice, but I almost felt like I was taking up a table that could have gotten more "money" for WDW. Which actually is funny because I spent more money than the next two tables that had couples at them.

(just a side note: DH and I went to Grand Floridian Cafe later in the week and got the best service I have ever had as a couple at WDW...they didn't try and put us in a tiny, horrible table and the waitress treated us like royalty!!)

Would I go again? Yes absolutely. I think that perhaps hearing reports of the wonderful service, etc. really built me up for a tiny bit of let down.

for anyone that has taken their daughters to tea - what generally is the age that is acceptable? I really don't want to do the Princess tea thing - and I have an eight year that is mature enough to sit and drink hot tea properly.

I think your 8 year old will love it! I took my girls when they were 13 and 10 and they both loved it.

We had the tea service there about 3 trips ago, but it stands out as being very memorable. I was in a party of five and we each ordered different tea, and different plates. I ordered a cheese plate, there were sandwich plates, etc. We shared those around. After one cup of tea, we tried each other's different tea. Our server added quite a bit to our experience with her expert service. It was so unique and elegant, and we had a beautiful view out towards the lake. A very fine time indeed!

We LUV it !

We usually get one "grand tea" and one "Prince Edward", that gives you a good assortment of both sweet and savory treats.

The "mad hatter" tea is delicious, as is the "floral jasmine'.

Is it worth doing ? You bet !

Is it overpriced ? You bet !

But, it's Disney of course...

I want to go as the sandwiches and tea look deelish. The setting and Royal Dalton china is so beautiful. If I had the opportunity YES I would def gooo.

I am interested in ordering just one of these to share as two people, but is this possible?

I took my eight year old DNiece last year and we both loved it. (She had never seen a sugar cube!) We felt rather posh through the whole affair!

I don't see why two couldn't share a whole tea service if sharing is allowed....the actual amount of tea in a pot was about four (albiet small china cups) for me, so two could share one pot of tea, but you would only have a couple of cups each....I saw people sharing POTS of tea, but no one sharing a whole tea, although I did see some people ordering a whole "Buckingham" and the person with them ordered a cheese plate and the two shared both.

If you do share, I highly suggest ordering an extra scone because you only get one and half of a scone is not enough, they are too good!!

In 2006, I mentioned that I wish I had someone to do the Tea with (I have a hubby and son no girls to do girly stuff with ) and my 9 year old son said he wanted to go. So we did. We both loved it. He was the perfect gentleman. He pulled out my chair and took off his baseball cap. We have gone several times since then. He orders the Mrs Potts and I order the Buckingham Palace. This upcoming trip I was considering ordering something small but considering the ala cart prices it makes more sense to get the Buckingham Palace and making it our afternoon meal. It really is very filling. Although it doesn't seem that way as they bring out each plate.

We love scones I suppose if we each must order something, then that will be the route for us.

Here at home, we have been to places that offer the traditional English "three-tiered" tea set where the price is a certain amount per person, and both must pay the price to share the set (you get two portions of the set, but both placed on the same tier rack). This is why I wondered about the "Priced per guest" part.
