Funny thing...either did I until someone told me about them a month ago. There happens to be one very close to my house (in the same town!). With so many banks on LI, I don't even pay attention to them! They seem to be popping up on LI maybe they'll make their way to NJ!

The basic checking account at TD Bank only requires you maintain a $100 minimum balance to avoid fees. You could open an account and leave $100 in there, just to be able to use the coin machines for free.

Although my bank has a free coin counter for account holders, I usually just get the grocery store gift card for convenience's sake - saves me a trip to the bank.
For the last several years, Coinstar has been having special bonuses in December. Right now they're having one that nets you a $10 iTunes card if you put in $40. It may be worthwhile to monitor for other options, even if it's not holiday season.
