Taxi's and ECVs??

I know that most WDW busses can handle the ECVs and we took the buss transportation our entire stay at WDW last year but this time we are staying at AKL and staying with friends who like to park hop and be on the go a bit more. They take taxi's rather than 'wait' for WDW bus transportation. We've never done this but for certain days are willing to "give it a try". However, being 6 months post total knee on one leg, and needing a total replacement on the other, I'm still requiring an ECV to make the world semi-pain free. I'll never survive a day without it and i'm afraid if I do, the entire remainder of my trip could be a disaster.
So, does anyone know of a taxi service that can handle an ECV if we find that we need to use a taxi service instead of using the WDW bus system??

Mears has a number of accessible taxis (mini vans). If you are using a small transportable ECV, it can fit in the trunk of many cars, especially those used for taxis. The bellhops or taxi stand can request one for you. I am unsure about scheduling one and their willingness to wait.

So do I but we only plan on park hopping twice so odds are we'd only use the taxi to do that two times and that's IT.

If you're only park hopping twice, use the busses, especially if your party only has one or two ECV's. Busses run every few minutes and are "free".

Mears only has about 20 accessible cabs, and reservations are pretty much a necessity for them.

However, all the rental ECVs break down and should be able to fit in the trunk of a large taxi. Just be sure you know how to break down and reassemble the ECV.

Not to mention, that to hop from MK <> EP would be the monorail (transfer @ TTC), EP<>DHS would be either the walkway or the boat. The challenge would be AK to the other parks (or vice-versa), but if hopping via taxi to the MK, have them drop you @ the Contemporary.

Both AK and DHS have direct buses to all parks except the MK. All buses between parks stop at the TTC for the MK.

If you plan the two days in a row when you want to hop a car rental could work. There's a place on site. You could even do two, one day rentals, but that would be a little harder.

You could always take the bus yourself and meet them some place in the park. Also, I think for those two days your friends could use the buses with you. I would think they would have some empathy for your circumstances.

Also, just because you are doing a vacation together doesn't mean you have to spend every moment with one another. I get the impression, here that you have to conform to everything they want to do and how they want to do it. When they want to park hop just go back to the resort and let them park hop. It will probably help you to take a rest, anyway.

If you get a travel, portable scooter it will fit in the trunk of the taxi. You will have to dissemble/assemble the scooter and take it in and out of the taxi. In reality, all of this takes time, too and the bus transportation might be just as good from a time standpoint. A popular model for this is the Pride to go go scooter. You can do a video search and see how it works to take it apart and put it together. It's easy.

Finally, another option if you can walk some is to rent a scooter in the parks and walk in and out of the parks on the hopper days. If you can't walk quick enough then your friends may not have the patience for you.

Nope- not at all. We are going as 2 families for a 7 night trip so we agreed to 2 days together- the rest I told them I'm doing what my family plans to do and if they want to join what we plan to do that's fine, but my kids need a bit more structure (they are younger than her teens that sleep until noon). We never ever park hop but decided that so many people do it, we should at least try it out. But they take taxi's so it's "faster". I wasn't sure if I could with the ECV. I have always used the WDW busses and or monorails / boats when available.
