Forgive me if this has been posted, but we are looking to go to the Atlantis resort when we dock, but are really not interested in doing the tours associated with the excursion packages. Do they have taxis at the port when you dock? And does anyone know about how much it costs? Thanks a bunch!

There are plenty of taxis just outside the building at the pier. When we went to Atlantis last April, it was $4 per person, each way. That may have gone up since then, especially with the price of gasoline. Make certain you agree on the price with the driver, before you get into the taxi.

Having read a few trip reports showing Atlantis I'm pretty interested in going without an excursion too. I've read that is compares to a large Las Vegas resort, is that true? What is there to do there other than the water-park aspect and does everything cost seperately?

We just got off a royal caribbean that went to nassau. We took a Taxi to Atlantis. It ws 5 bucks per person and there were 4 of us. Make sure you taxi driver tells you how much it will be before you get in the cab. We walked around Atlantis because everything there, including the waterpark is spearate and very, very expensive to do. After we walked around Atlantis we walked to the publilc beach called Cabbage Beach, which after we got there, backs right onto Atlantis.

Yes, Atlantis is very much like a Vegas resort. Although, I found that the actual casino wasn't quiet as big as some of the casinos in the big Vegas resorts...it's plenty big enough though!

If I were comparing the amenities (and not considering the proximity to the ocean), Atlantis kind of reminds me of Mandalay Bay in Vegas.

When we went in January, the weather was very bad. There were very few people taking cabs at the time and about 50 cab drivers begging to drive us. Needless to say, we negotiated a great price of $3 per person for 5 of us. Also be sure to ensure that the cab driver pays the bridge tolls - negotiate this up front just to be sure. It's only a dollar or two, but the driver may try to charge you if not decided upon up front.

We always take a "Water Taxi", basically an Old Fishing Boat which is much more fun than a car.

Paid $20 for 4 of us-plus you have to get back. That cab ride was the wildest amusement ride we've ever been on. Drove like madmen-one foot on gas the other on the brake and one hand on the horn, weaving in and out of traffic and nearly running down a few pedestrians. Cab had broken springs in seats and no seat belts. Closest we've felt like near death experience but makes a great laugh now "Do you remember that cab ride in Nassau?"....:rotfl2:

Casino is nice-it was empty when we were there. Lots of security on the grounds and roped off areas you couldn't even walk through.

I would recommend checking with the excursions desk to find out if you can be transported with the Atlantis excursions.

We booked a dolphin swim at Paradise Island outside of DCL (because you can only book the encounter through DCL), and I went to the excursions desk to ask about transportation.

The person we talked to told us that if they had room, we could travel with the DCL dolphin encounter excursion group.

We were too chicken to leave it to chance, so we took a taxi to the ferry port (across the street from Atlantis), but on the way back, we were transported all the way back to the ship, without question.

We plan to join the Atlantis group this time around since we know it's a possibility. But since I'm so paranoid, I'll still ask at the excursions desk beforehand!
