Hypothetically, if we get to a park using bus or monorail....could we walk to a close resort (after fireworks) and grab a taxi from there back to AKL? Is uber better or taxi? I am guessing taxi keeps the meter running in traffic? Thanks!

Taxi and Uber both run the meter in traffic. Either one if fine. On NYE expect a pretty crazy surcharge from Uber. I have heard the drivers don't even get a cut of the surcharge and many of my Uber drivers have suggested I try Lyft when available.

Wow! I think you'd be better off to use the bus to the resort. WDW hires extra buses during that time to handle the crowds after NYE fireworks. I can't imagine that a taxi or Uber driver would be able to get you out any quicker than a bus with all that traffic. We were ready to bolt after the fireworks and didn't have to wait long at all on a bus.

I would take the bus. A taxi or uber will cost you an arm and a leg and aren't likely to get you back any faster. Disney will be running lots of extra buses.

I drove a cab at Disney 25 years ago. On New Years Eve -- 25 years ago -- people were putting 100s on my windshield for a ride. Outside of Epcot I watched people get into an actual fistfight for one of the vans. I had someone offer me $200 for a ride to the Grand Floridian, and offered to pay it even if they had to share with the people who had gotten to me first.

I barely put my car in park until 3:30 that morning.

In other words, don't plan on a cab. Either rent a car and drive yourself or use hotel transportation, but if you take a cab, you're going to wait, be frustrated, and pay a lot for it.

PS -- don't fault them (or me) too much. Driving a cab at Disney really is a suck job fighting with Mears and DME and waiting in line for hours for a fare that turns out to be $10 from MK to the Poly. Not saying price gouging is fair or right, but it's not a fun way to make a living, no matter what Alex Reager or Father Jim portrayed :)

Uber does not run the meter as fast. I was stuck at hollywood in traffic in an uber and turned out to only add $5 to the ride. Now if there is surge pricing or something who knows what that would have been but I lucked out there.

You will have a hard time getting a taxi, Uber OR Lyft on NYE. Almost impossible, really. The lines will be long for taxis, and if you can even get an Uber, it will be surge pricing. Plus, Disney shuts down MANY roads in and out to facilitate contraflow for traffic leaving the parks.

The taxi line this year at Epcot was essentially three hours long, and even though you might be waiting in line for a cab, people were so frantic they would jump in front of cabs or even try to take your cab from you. Total chaos. Thanks, Mears!

I was once able to get an Uber at 3 a.m. at the Poly. But then it still took an hour to get to AOA, and it cost me over $50.

Your best bets are staying at a resort next to the park you plan to spend time at, joining the masses waiting in line for the resort buses after the fireworks - or renting a car and driving yourself.

I've done the past four years of NYE at Epcot, two times staying offsite, two times staying on. I will never go to a park unless I either drive myself or can walk back to my room. It's a disaster unless you want to spend at least an hour waiting in line for a bus.

Another option is to book a private, arranged transfer via Mears (or another Town Car provider). It will easily cost you $100+ for the 10-minute ride, but at least you're guaranteed a car waiting and ready for you.

NYE at the parks is not for the faint of heart.

OK- we are driving our own car down, just thought that would be quicker! That is why the DIS is great - learn from others! :) We will stick to the bus! Thanks everyone!
