I am thinking about spending a little more and taking a taxi from airport to hotel in order to hopefully save time. Even 10 minutes earlier than mears bus would be a big help.

Anyone who has taken taxi can they remember about how much from airport to Disney hotel. (staying at Pop)

Anyone remember how long it took?

Thanks,

Bryon

It takes 30-35 minutes to get to most any resort on WDW property from the airport.

Keep in mind that Mears doesn't run shuttles anymore. Disney's Magical Express is run by Disney, and they contract Mears to do the driving (in other words, Mears is still the muscle but now Disney is the brains).

Chances are, you won't save time taking a taxi. With DME you may wait for the bus to leave (supposed to be not more than 15 minutes), but with a taxi you have to wait for your luggage at baggage claim. With DME, you totally skip baggage claim, and your bags are delivered to the inside of your resort room.

If you're doing only carry-on luggage (and thus don't have to wait at baggage claim), then I can't imagine that DME would be faster than a taxi or car service.

It is about 30 minutes to POP and the meter reads slightly over $50.00 by taxi.

Cleve are you sure Mears doesn't run the shuttles? I believe they do. I asked the same guy, about two months ago, I talked to earlier, about the shuttles going to Disney. He stated to me the Mears shuttle does still run to Disney. There was no change in the policy. Since than I have seen Mears shuttles at POP, the other morning and several other Disney resorts. Someone had written that on the boards and that was exactly the reason I asked him. He is probably the 3rd or 4th man in the corporation.

I just called Mears asking for a shuttle. They will not give you a Mears shuttle. They will refer you to the DME, towncar or the taxi. That is news to me and I am glad I found out. They push you to the DME because it is free and if you say no they will set you up with a town car. The town car price to POP is $70.00 one way or $130.00 round trip. If you still want taxi they will tell you how to get to the taxi in the commercial lanes.

You were right Cleve. They mentioned it was a conflict of interest to be providing paid shuttle service to Disney.

Well, so much for knowledgeable VP's. He just lost a lot of credibility with me.

I just get a limo from Happy Limo. It's more private, luxury and fun than a taxi. My wife and I did that last time and it was great. Only cost about $100.

No sarcasm, just an observation: Spending $50 to save ten minutes works out to $300 an hour. Is it really worth that much to possibly (not absolutely) arrive at your resort a few minutes faster?

Also, others can explain this better than I, but... if you use Disney's Magical Express (advance reservations required), then when you check in at the Welcome Center a message is sent to your resort, and if a room in the category you reserved is available, it's blocked for you. Meanwhile, the Guest arriving by taxi just moments after that's processed may well have to wait for a room to become available (cleaned/checked/prepped), even though there's technically an empty room. That 'empty' room is being held for the DME Guest.
