Just a quick question - can you pay for taxis and entry into Chankanaab Park by $US/travellers cheques or should I get pesos?

Also, we are lucky enough to be doing the Royal Dolphin Swim, and I'm not sure about tipping (it is not a way of life in Australia - but I want to do the right thing - when in Rome). How much per person should I give the instructors of the swim?

One last thing, you can purchase a video of you encounter I believe, can you pay for this by travellers cheques or credit cards or does it have to be cash ?

thank you :wave2:

There are so many American visitors in Cozumel that we had no trouble using US dollars. We used them to pay for our taxi to Chakanaab, our entry into the park and our lunch. They gave us change in US dollars also.

I had to ask for a dollar's worth of pesos as I wanted some Mexican coins for my collection. The waiter made sure I understood that my dollar would get me 80 pesos. Once he knew I was fine with that, I got a variety of coins--just what I wanted.

We snorkeled at the park with our own equipment and did not do the dolphin swim so cannot answer those questions for you.

Have a great time!

We too had no trouble taking a taxi to the park and purchasing things with U.S. dollars. I signed up for the Sea Lion Swim while we were there, and I paid with cash rather than Visa because the credit card exchange rate didn't sound too good. They sold a video of the sea line experience, so I'm sure they take one of the dolphins too.

We used our credit card to pay for the video and pictures of our dolphin encounter. We didn't tip the instructors--noone did.

We did the swim there. Took the taxi both ways - paid american dollars. Bought the video with cash (I had one of the "necklaces" that hold cash). We did tip our dolphin trainer person - at the end of the session he made it clear by saying "I accept tips!". I believe we gave him $10.00 we had an excellent time and felt that he deserved it. Hope this helps

Thanks for your replies everyone!

That's one more thing I can cross off of my checklist.

Be aware that you cannot use plastic for entrance to the park. We stopped at tourist info place and asked--they said we could use VIsa. Got to park, and they wouldn't take plastic. We had a lovely round trip taxi ride!

Guess the rule is not to believe everything you hear from tourist info. Visa is good everywhere IN the park, but not for park admission.

I'm not sure you need to tip the instructors during the swim, but you will part with a lot of money for the royal swim, photos and video. We paid for our with a credit card and the receipt is in pesos. Imagine being handed a receipt from your credit card and it shows something like 25,000 in the amount due. Many, many people were questioning their receipt costs, but it was correct...Mark
