hi, quick question i hope someone can answer....
if you're taking a taxi, what do you usually do with your toddler ? i mean, is a children's car seat compulsory in the US ?

further, is it easy getting a taxi for 5 adults and 1 toddler ?

It is a matter of state law that varies from state to state. In New York, taxis and other categories of "for hire" vehiciles (e.g., limos) are exempt from the rear passenger restraint laws that generally require children under a certain age to be restrained and/or in an appropriate car seat.

I do not know what Florida law is on the subject. Regardless of what the law allows, a toddler will always be safest in an appropriate car seat or booster seat for their age/weight, and most states that have adopted the exemption for "for hire" vehicles still strongly encourage parent's to bring their own car seat.

thanks
anyone know what it is for orlando ?
and anyone maybe an idea on the taxi for a group (5 adults, 1 toddie)

Some car services and taxis in Florida will provide a car seat for an additional fee. It's best to make arrangements in advance for that.

Are they required on ME? Can you schedule someone like Mears ahead of time to wait on you after your flight? We can't use ME on the beginning of the trip but we will be using it for the return trip.

Florida Livery is not exempt from child restraint laws.

You can't use / don't need a carseat on DME - its a coach bus without seatbelts.

You can hire a towncar in advance for your trip from the airport. Mears as well as many others will take reservations and provide a carseat. I have had great service from Florida Tours and Tiffany Towncar both have websites for information and quotes.

And re: the Towncars, they only have booster seats avail, per their websites. If you want a car seat you have to upgrade to a van. That alone is giving me pause before reserving. I would much prefer NOT to use DME but there's a price difference just for getting a vehicle that will provide a car seat for me, not to mention all that space wasted for just 2 adults and 1 toddler!

I have had a carseat in a towncar with Tiffany, FL Tours and one other company. Looking at the Tiffany website you can choose a towncar and a carseat (not a booster). If your having trouble reserving what you want on the website why not give them a call and be sure?

FWIW I love DME esp the luggage delivery feature. I I am staying at a WDW Resort I always choose DME over a towncar. The OP said she can't use DME on the way in so that is why I mentioned a town car service.

I did not even bother trying to complete a reservation with either Tiffany or Fl Tours as it is plainly stated on both websites that car seats are NOT available in Towncars due to size limitations - only booster seats. If the reservation process is in fact different than the text and they DO regularly make available car seats in Towncars, then they need to change the FAQs/info on their site, because I'm sure I'm not the only one almost passing up a car service due to lack of car seat availability in the cars. I have used DME in the past but we will be arriving in the late evening and I don't want my luggage delivered at 11 p.m. - I'd rather haul it myself and have the room all set up the night before our fun starts. (and yes, I know I can take my luggage on the DME bus, but if I'm going to go to the trouble of getting my checked baggage and hauling it thru the airport with a toddler, I'd rather hop in a car that will take me straight to my resort instead of wait for the DME bus and a long ride).

Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2 Dh has a conference the first half of our trip but we're arriving a couple of days later due to a dance recital so we can't use ME which is a shame, we've always had great service with ME.

As long as you're staying onsite you can still use ME, even if you arrive a couple of days later than your husband.

Oh that's awesome, thanks for the info!!! :goodvibes

Just to clarify since your ticker says Dolphin and Pop - DME serves POP but not the Dolphin. So if your arriving anytime during your POP reservation you can (as the pp said) use DME regardless of when (or if) your DH uses DME.

If your arrival or departure is to or from the Dolphin you will have to use the mears shuttle or book a taxi or towncar if you don't want a rental car. FYI the Dolphin charges a parking fee, the WDW Resorts do not.
