Tattoos.

Wanda I thought you had earrings? Wouldn't holes be considered unnatural and therefore a sin?
I'm not trying to me hurtful, I am just MAJORLY confused.

Jenny, as to what I bolded I have a reason. Yes, I've questioned God. I questioned him almost every day I was on chemo. But what I know now is that that bad thing turned out to be a good thing. I would've never been an advocate for pediatric cancer if it hadn't happent to me.
Sometimes bad things have good repercussions.
Oh, I know. I was just providing an example. :)

Back when I was still questioning my faith, I had a million questions (obviously, hahah). I guess my mind cannot accept (among other things, lolol) that a person could follow religion blindly. :confused3

our body doesnt go to heaven.our soul does. are we tattooing our souls? no.

frankly, peoples souls can be much uglier than any tattoo could ever want to be.

but once again. say i got a cross. or the jesus fish on me. would that be considered a sin to you?

How did we get to this? :sad2:
Stereotypical christian = holier than thou

Please dont get to this.

Hopefully these will help clear up a few things.

“I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God” (1 Timothy 2:9-10).

Romans 14:23 states, "...everything that does not come from faith is sin."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

And trust me Sonya, Christianity is VERY confusing. That's why so many people question it.

This scripture does not ban tattoos, but it does bring up the question as to why a person wants to get a tattoo and which tattoos to get. As with some sin it is not the act but the intent that matters. If the act of getting tattoo is rebellion against parents, authority, etc. – then it is a sin. For instance, if your parents tell you not to get a tattoo and you do it to spite them, then getting a tattoo is sinful, because God’s commandment calls for you to “honor your father and your mother” (Exodus 20:12).

i have become so frustrated as i read this thread. i am going to state my opinion on some of the issues that have come up. sorry if i end up offending anyone. ok:

i dont think there is anything wrong with tattoos in general. i am a christian and i have read that verse about permenant markings. i think the problem with tattoos is what they can represent, like if a "christian" got a tattoo of a pentagram or something, i would have a problem with that. i have christian friends with tattoos. some of them happen to be leaders in their churches. i dont think tattoos affect where you stand with God. the only reasons i wouldn't get one is because i hate pain, have a phobia of injections, and i would probly get bored of it.

in regards to peircings, there is nothig in the bible to say that this is wrong, as far as i know. keep in mind that i haven't read the whole thing. i remember seeing that they were used as a form of adornment. once again, i probly wont ever get any, i have tried to get my ears done but wimped out every time. im scared of pain.

with the whole stereotype thing. yes, we stereotype ourselves. every stereotype has to come from somewhere. i agree that all christians are hypocrites. for example, we always say people shouldn't judge, but i know i have a hard time not judging people. part of the beauty of christianity is that if we admit that we are just like all these stereotypes, we can get forgiven. i know i'm just like some of these stereotypes and i'm very sorry. we are all human and we all sin. sometimes it's really hard not to adopt a "holier than thou" tone and attitude.

Honestly, not trying to offend, do you just follow his word blindly? Don't you ever question it?

I'm also sorry, it's really hard to keep check of what I say on this board.

as to the above quote, i question God all the time. i think to say that you dont is a lie. not meaning to offend. but really, is it possible to read the bible and never ask any questions. i like to know the reasons behind things, i dont like accepting things that may seem ridiculous unless i can understand the reason. in my opinion, if you dont ask questions then you are more likely to switch to other religions. God is big enough to be ale to handle our questions. he wants us to be honest with him, whether we are angry with him, think certain rules are unfair, or completely agree with him.

once again, im really sorry if i offended anyone. this is all just my opinions and beliefs.

So your body is 100% natural?

Hm. So you blindly follow him? Never ever questioning? Hm. I just think that God would want you to 100% believe in him, and can you ever 100% believe in something that you don't question?

You never once thought 'If God loves us, then why do all these bad things keep happening?'

I've had many priests tell me not to follow blindly.

Of course I've thought that. I think everyone has asked that at some point, and if they haven't, they will at some point in their lives. But God uses challenges so that we can grow closer in our relationship with Him. Trials make us weak, which makes us lean on God and allow Him to take over and get us back on track.

I 100% believe in Him. To get to that point, I don't question. I read my Bible, pray, go to church, etc, so that I can learn more about God. The more I learn, the more I believe. Taking biology this year helps with that too. The more I learn about the chemistry of life, genetics, cellular reproduction, and ecology, the more I believe that the world could not have happened by something exploding. Its far too complex. So I don't question that he exists or questions what his son did for us. I learn about Him and what He's said and what he's created and thats enough for me. I dont mean to turn this into a religious thread or anything (Trust me, I REALLY dont want that to happen), but that's what I base my beliefs on.

i love how a conversation about tattoo preference turns into an all out religious argument.

I'm a Christian and I think tatoos are awesome! I actually would like to get one when I'm older. I mean when the bible tells us to honor God with our body I don't think that means that we can't get tatoos. I think it just means that we should be respectful of what we do with our bodies.

If I offended anyone I am truly sorry.

so with that, if i wanted a tattoo, my mom said "sure!" and even went with me and bought me dinner afterwards, i would not be sinning because my mother has agreed to it. right? right.

at the bolded: LOL

Holes are also considered bad. I remember my grandpa telling me not to get any more holes in my ears than I already had because God doesn't want us to have them in our bodies.

I'm hoping God will forgive me for putting two little holes in my ears that hardly ever have earrings in them.

It's just one of those things people seem to pick and choose from the Bible. Gay marriage is wrong because the Bible says so but you can get tattoos and piercings (my Catholic friend strongly thinks Gays are unnatural and sinful but she has a ton of ear piercings and a nose piercing  ). To me, you can't have it both ways. If you're going to say something is wrong because the Bible says so then you can't say that another thing isn't as "bad" because YOU decided it wasn't.

I'm doomed.

By the way, I am a Christian and believe in God deeply but I do not follow the Bible completely. I believe that God created man and that Jesus rose from the dead but as far as not eating certain seafoods, thinking that giving birth is dirty, being gay is wrong...I'm against those beliefs and do not follow them. I doubt most of the population does either since most women have their ears pierced and a good percentage of Christians have tattoos.

you arent doomed.

that verse is talking about how you dont have to be rich, wear expensive clothing, etc. in order to honor god. it isnt saying we cant braid our hair or wear jewelery.

people use the bible all the time to back up their belief against or for something. its as simple as that.

So now you're laughing at our religious views?

I'm doomed.

Just curious, but where do you see in the Bible where giving birth is dirty? And Eating seafood is no longer dirty. The rule was only in place to protect the Jews from getting diseases caused my eating seafood back then. Jesus ate fish too.

you arent doomed.

Yes we do. Not ashamed of it either.

I think the bible is definitely the thing I have most issue with concerning Christianity. To be honest, most Christians are hypocrites. How can you just pick and choose the parts of the bible you decide are good & easy enough to follow?

i agree
can we just either end it or get back onto topic:sad2:

I said that I dont question he existence or what Jesus did for us. I do, however, ask questions to learn more about him.

And I agree with Kels, we need to get back on topic.

Hahahaha. *cue a public service announcement* We here at the DIS TeenBoard are your leaders in smooth segways into topics not related to the original post. We do hope the next time you need a smooth transition from one topic to another, you'll seek our services.

Anywhoo. Bringing this back on topic.

I'm a fan of Chester Bennington's (of Linkin Park) Koi fish tattoos. You can see one on his left arm here:

I'm also in love with this tattoo:

And because I'm madly in love (and I mean madly) with his tattoos, a better shot of CM Punk's ink.

He recently got a cupcake added to his sleeves, or so the rumour goes. A good friend of his runs this place: Bake and Destroy. Seriously. If you bake, check it out. Most awesomest cupcakes evar.

I have to agree. Jacoby Shaddix has some of the nicest work. It's very vibrant.

As for knuckle tattoos, I love them.

CM Punk's say "Drug Free" and Shannon Moore (I don't have any good shots of his work, sorry) say "Hard Knox", as in "The school of Hard Knocks".
