It hurts a lot to have it removed. It also takes many visits and when you decide that you don't like it, removal is also very expensive. I am reminded of the Jimmy Buffet song; A Permanent Reminder of a Temporary Feeling.

Oh goody!! glo's getting a tattoo!! Can I come and watch? :teeth: :teeth: (I want one too (small!), to celebrate my weight loss...which hasn't happened YET  ...and my 4X birthday.)

SSShhhhhh.....I have been thinking about it....
midlife crisis you know ;)

Still want info though...come on guys you have to have more info....

Should I or shouldn't I?

It didn't really hurt much, a couple of times a little owww. Cost depends on size and how intricate it is. It was very easy to care for afterwards. Just had to wash it gently and apply Bacitracin (sp?). a couple of times a day.

I got mine done for $65 at a very reputable place along Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. It's on my belly, on the right-hand side (it's Tigger) and he sits just above the top of my bikini bottoms. :) It hurt, but not enough to make me want to jump out of the chair and run crying from the tattoo parlor. I had to keep a straight face because my sister was watching prior to having her tattoo done (and if I had grimaced she would have chickened out). It took about 45 minutes. The tattoo is 3-4 inches tall and 2 inches wide, outlined in black and filled in with the appropriate Tigger colors.

To care for my tattoo, I followed the instructions they gave me at the the tattoo parlor. It healed quickly and with no problems. The only care I take with it now is to use a high number sunblock on it when I am at the beach.

Go for it!!!! :) And enjoy your tattoo!!!

have a small one on my right side hip area. I did not think it was very painful. I actually thought it was fun. It only took about a 1/2 hour but that was the whole process not just the tattooing part. In the beginning you just want to keep it moist for about a week with antibacterial ointment. As for the expense, the bigger and more elaborate the tattoo the more expensive it is. I think mine was about 40 dollars. I got a rose in remembrance of my DGM and to celebrate my 30th. I did it with 3 of my cousins and never have regretted my decision.

Oooh maybe something to do when I go to WDW in May....

Where is it TigH?

I am not sure I want a Dinsy character or something like a kinda feminine?

Come on guys!!!!!

TIG so you had yours done at once? COuld you go swimming after or shower?? I may do it while on vacation, or should I do it before hand?

"Ok, how much does it hurt?"
mine didn't hurt that much, but it wasn't very detailed, and it was on my shoulder. depending on shading, detail, and location, it can hurt a lot. remember it is a needle going into your skin repetitively.

"How long does it take? "
since mine wasn't elaborate, it only took about 30-45 minutes as i recall. more detailed ones can take a lot longer, and sometimes you have to make multiple visits for the bigger ones.

"and is there upkeep at the beginning?"
i got mine at a very reputable place in georgetown. when it was done, they put a plastic covering over it with tape to keep it clean. i don't remember if i had to wait a day to shower or not, but i did have to put a+d ointment (it's a diaper rash ointment) on it for a couple days to help it heal. mine healed in about 3 -4 days, i think, and since then i don't really do anything to it, other than make sure i have suncreen on it whenever it is not covered by clothing.

"Are they expensive?"
it depends on what you have done. mine had multiple colors, but was not elaborate, design-wise. it is about 2" x 3" and it was $80 when i got it in 1997.

i wouldn't do it on vacation. it will be sore the first few days. definately do it at least a week before you go on vacation. :)

It really depends on where you get it Glo. I have one on my hip and at the time that I got it, (some 25 years ago) it was a bony hip and the tattoo hurt, but no too bad.

Until the tattoo heals (it will be very scabby and ugly for about a week), you need to take extra special care of it. Cleaning and keeping the badages changed.

If you recall the temporary tattoos that me and the DD's got while at DISCON, well I'm getting one just like it, but permanent. In fact I may even get it this weekend. We have a very good tattoo artist here.

Which brings me to my next point.....If you do decide to get one (and I hope you do) be VERY, VERY, VERY picky about where you go to get it. If you can, get a personal recommendation from someone who has a well done tattoo. Tattoos are something you don't want to mess around with.

WAHOOOOOOO Glo is thinking about getting inked!!!!

I have 4, one on my ankle (hurt only because the bone is right there, LOL) it's rather small and not much detail, if I remember correctly, that one cost me around $65, I have a rose on the left side of my belly, didn't hurt at all, not alot of detail and around the same price as the ankle one, I have a tribal sun around my belly button, no pain and same cost. Now my last one, is on my back, in between my shoulder blades and probably the most painful one I got (still not TERRIBLE though) ALOT of detail and it cost 150.00. I don't find the pain unbearable at all, and it really depends where you decide to get your tattoo. My DH has one around his bicep (not that I think you will get one there, LOL) and he said it was pretty painful because there was alot of muscle there. The only upkeep in the beginning is making sure it stays moisturized so that it doesn't dry out.....if it does get really dry, it itches BADDDDDD, and whatever you do...DON' T ITCH!!!!!! I got my most recent one in the winter and I had to constantly keep the tattoo gel on it so that it wouldn't dry out, it still was pretty itchy though!

Whatever you decide, GOOD LUCK!

I can't answer any of your questions, glo. I'm just here because you asked me to be on the riddle! LOL

Actually, it's your call. I always wanted one, never got one, and am extremely glad I didn't. But that's me.

Well I guess it's pretty obvious now that the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree:rolleyes:

I'm probably the only mother in the world that doesn't mind the fact that her daughter is "inked". LOL

Don't let the seedy looking building fool you! :) Or the long haired VERY tattooed guys who work there! :) :) :) :) I wish I could remember the name of the tattoo artist who worked on me. I just printed off a color picture of the tattoo I wanted. It was a pretty big picture. He sketched it out freehand (smaller than the original picture) and used that sketch to work from (transferred it onto my body).

Taking a shower was no problem. I don't think I went swimming until after it had healed (sorry, wish I could remember how long that took).

The place is probably 25 minutes or so from WDW, depending on traffic. You'd just head East on I-4, take the OBT exit (make a right onto OBT and it's down on the left somewhere.)

We didn't have an appointment, just walked in and were lucky that someone could see us immediately. It was a Saturday afternoon and the place wasn't too busy.

They had a ton of images you could select from at the tattoo parlor. My sister picked a solid black "tribal" design (just a really fancy circle thingy). Hers is on her lower back, centered on her spine. She is a SKINNY MINNIE and said it hurt when he was tattooing over the bone. Eeeek! ;)

I'm a little more fleshy than she is, so I guess that's why it didn't hurt as much? Now using an epilady to pull hair out of your legs, THAT HURTS!!!! By the end of the tattoo process I was really happy it was over, but I have been thinking about getting another one ever since.

See, it just depends on each individual person. The work I had done over my spine hurt less then when te guy was working on the fleshy areas. Some people feel that a boney area hurts more. I guess there is no real way to answer the question regarding does it hurt. Just like giving birth or leg waxing- everyone is different!

It doesn't hurt anymore than like getting an IV or getting an epidural, does it?

I have 1 on my ankle and it didn't hurt much at all. I have wanted another one since and just haven't gotten it yet because I have been told by a tatoo artist that I can't get what I want ( which is a white tiger head). Anyway..... I have had mine about 6 years and haven't regretted it at all. My care in the beginning was to keep it covered and apply neosporin (sp?) regularly. I remember we had a trip planned about a week later to tube down a river and I was concerned about the dirty water causing a infection. I keep it out of the water as much as possible and it was fine.

Honeywolf - haven't had a epidural but I wouldn't compare it to a IV because the IV goes deeper into vein and the tatoo is like constant quick "pricks" just below the surface. That is the best way I can describe it. Does that make sense??

"It doesn't hurt anymore than like getting an IV or getting an epidural, does it?"

never had an epidural, and i've only had 1 IV, but it (the IV) didn't hurt at all. the tattoo hurt a bit, but i wasn't screaming in pain or crying or anything.

AMCLuvsMKY, doesn't sound too bad at all
Caitycaity, you're lucky if the IV didn't hurt you at all. My veins are small and they roll, so IVs really hurt to me.

i think i just got lucky, honestly. i have small, rolling veins too, and blood tests are torture for me. for whatever reason, the iv (which i was dreading) didn't hurt at all. i asked the nurse if she could do all of my bloodwork forever and ever. :p
