We're starting our big trip with a couple days to explore resorts, sleep off our jet lag, and just have relaxing fun.

Therefore, I'd love to know peoples' fave places to get casual food outside the parks!

We're veggie, so that does make a bit of a difference, but give me your thoughts anyway please. Thanks in advance!

If you haven't yet check out allears.net they have a list of all the restaurants and menus. They also have a rating guide.

Wolfgang Puck Express in DTD is incredible. You get table service food in a quick serve setting. You order at a counter, it's made fresh for you and brought to you at your table. I believe they have a lot of veg options.

It's my one "Must Do" dining visit every trip.

Oh yes, definitely. All over allears. Helpful site!

Ooh, good to know. I hadn't even thought about going there. Thanks!

I don't know if you are planning on visiting Pop Century, but we have always been pleased with their food court. I don't know if it is worth a special trip if you aren't bouncing that way, but it's pretty good if you are already going there!

Definitely Wolfgang Puck Express at Downtown Disney. It is a counter service but you order then they bring the food to the table. The food was excellent.

I am definitely interested in the food courts. Can't get more casual and relaxed than that. Thanks for that suggestion!

Cool, another in favor of Pucks Express. :)

Good plan. We enjoy resort-hopping and checking out the specialty CS places, too. And we don't even have a good reason like jet-lag... since we drive to WDW! :rotfl:

Yeah, definitely WPE. The Spinach & Mushroom Omelet was great for our leaving-day breakfast, I wish we had known about it earlier! And LOADS of terrific options for the rest of the day.

Another bfast fav is Capt Cook's at Poly for Tonga Toast!

The Pepper Market at CSR is really good, with plenty of variety for everyone.

Several spots have flatbreads that are on my list to try. Including Mara at AKL, which also has legendary butternut squash soup.

The lounges at CR and Poly will serve limited food (sushi, flatbreads, some other items) from their TS restaurants, and no reservation is required.

Definitely check out all the online resort CS menus, and I'm sure you'll find lots of things that please. And enjoy your trip! :hippie:

Yeah POP food court for the most part is very good(meatball/salad combo)

Also
AK: Yak and Yeti- Honey Chicken and Sweet & Sour pork
MK: Golden Oak Outpost- Flat bread Chicken and fried chicken breast sandwich
EPCOT: Electric Umbrella
DTD: Earl of Sandwich

In DTD we like Wolfgang Puck Express. For sweets, the sundaes at Ghiradelli are really good as are the dipped treats at Goofy's.

I thought the Contempo Cafe at CR was very nice -- some different options that are a departure from typical cs.

At the resorts I would highly recommend the Contempo Cafe at Disney's Contemporay Resort. As for Downtown Disney I would highly recommend Earl of Sandwich and it's located in the Marketplace section.

I will second the Contempo Cafe. Try the flatbreads. DW had the pepperoni and i had the marinated steak and arugala. Both were some of the best food we had the whole trip.

If you have a car, you've got to check out Sweet Tomatoes. It's a salad and soup restaurant, I think in the Crossroads shopping center, at the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd and 535.

It's all buffet/salad bar style, you do all the fixings yourself.

We went there last year when they opened, they did a fundraiser for Give Kids the World. A great cause, and a great resturant, especially for vegans.

Another fun one on property is Beaches and Cream at the Yacht&Beach Club Resort. Mostly burgers and such for food, but great ice cream and sundaes. Can't beat the location either.

I just peeked at your profile to see which resort you're staying in to see if there's something about that resort's food court I could comment on. Don't see it though, so I'll just forge ahead.

If your son likes pony rides, there is a very nice one at Fort Wilderness along with a cute petting zoo. While there, you can have a meal at Trail's End Buffet, which is inexpensive compared to other Disney buffets. Or you could take the boat to the Wilderness Lodge, as it's well worth seeing. The food court there is small, and I didn't love it after spending a week in the WL, but for a one time visit, I'm sure you could find something good to order.

As a PP mentioned, you can visit the Mara at AKL and check out the Lodge while you're there. Plenty to see there, including the animals. Oh, you can get the famous zebra domes there. :)

The Boardwalk is a nice place to visit on a non-park day. ESPN is a table service restaurant, but an inexpensive one and fun to see. There is also the pizza window where you can get a pie and sit outside to enjoy. The Boardwalk Bakery has some awesome dessert items you can buy and bring back to your room for breakfast the following day. I believe it serves good sandwiches too.

I love Earl of Sandwich at DTD... Yummy yummy sandwiches. I had the Ham and Swiss sandwich twice on a trip, on two different trips last summer.

We usually hit WPE at least twice a trip. This year we went once and I doubt we will go back. The menu has been cut way back and the portion sizes are reduced. Also the pasta meals that came with a salad no longer come with one. It's no longer on my "must do" list.

We ate at the Contempo Cafe at the Comtemporary for the first time this trip. We enjoyed our meal there. If you are on the dining plan Pepper Market at Coranado Springs Resort is a good deal. POP also has a good food court with a lot of variety.

CS at Poly is very good. They have a very unique adult grilled cheese sandwich that is very good. We like to have lunch there just to enjoy the setting for a bit.

We usually hit Mara on our last day. It has become a tradition lol We have lunch there, the butternut soup is incredible, and the can't be missed zebra domes! We then walk around the resort looking at the sights and the animals. Its a nice way to relax before heading home.

This year we are staying at Kidani village in a villa so we will be right there instead of having to make a special trip.

One more of interest is definitely POR. They do a make your own pasta in which you pick out the meat, veggies, cheese, sauces etc then they cook it right in front of you and put it into this chinese box looking thing. It is really good. We found this out when we stayed there but we have gone back to visit just to enjoy the resort for a visit and lunch.
