Can anyone tell me how to get from Tarpon Springs to WDW? I am trying to avoid going through Tampa as Mapquest and AAA sites tell me to go. There has to be a secondary road or something someone knows. Thanks

Sorry I thought I was still on the transportation board! Please move this moderators!

You could go up almost to New Port Richey and then pick up SR 54 East until it ends at Zephyrhills. Pick up SR39 South to I-4 at Plant City.

I grew up in Tarpon Springs (lived there for 17 years). I always went through Tampa, it was always the easiest way. I take US 19 South to St rd 60 (Gulf to Bay) East. Follow St rd 60 all the way across Tampa Bay (you cross over the Courtney Campbell Causeway and enter into Tampa) follow the signs to Tampa Airport (the exit is just after you come off the causeway bridge maybe about a mile or two) once you get onto Memorial Highway (the exit for the airport off St Rd 60) move over one lane (the right lane forces you off to the airport.) Follow that to the I-275 exchange and get on I-275 East that will bring you through Tampa and connect to I-4 once on I-4 the Disney exits start at exit 62 (I think, I know the Epcot/ DTD exit is 67).

Going up to SR 54 works too. Might be easier right now because of all the construction on US 19 through Countryside and Clearwater.

Thanks both of you! I know the way to the airport well as we fly down to Tampa alot. Also know route 54 at New Port Ritchey, My dad is a snowbird who winters in Tarpon Springs so we visit each year. I just thought there might be a "shortcut" the locals knew!

Another option I take sometimes is US 19 to Tampa Road and follow Tampa Rd all the way down until it meets up with I-4, but that all depends on the time of day. It has a lot of traffic lights and can be very time consuming.

Going through Tampa is the easiest and quickest way.... It is a MUCH easier drive now that construction on I-4 @ the I-275 junction has been completed. It is really smooth sailing now.

Thanks everybody, I have lots of options now. Kind of sounds like going through Tampa is the best. We'll be going midday on a Tuesday so shouldn't be a problem. Plus the causeway is such a pretty drive for those of us who don't live by the water!
