Target vs Walmart

Could you not dispute it? I've never had a problem with customer service at Target. Once they only gave me one of an item when I paid for two and they refunded me.
I may have to resort to that. It’s an e-gift card I bought two days ago that I didn’t receive the link for. I want the card and so far they are trying to troubleshoot why I haven’t received it. I received the email confirmation of the order, so they have the correct address. I have done two online chats and five phone calls, and they say wait, it’s on the way. Supposedly they resent it again a couple of hours ago, and they said to wait four hours (which is the typical wait time) so I am waiting again. They said if it doesn’t come through this time we will go over my “options”. Hopefully those include a refund, but right now they have my money and I have no card. I have bought many e-gift cards through them and never had an issue, so I’m really frustrated right now.

ETA - I was finally able to get someone who could help. She could see the attempts to send the email and that they were bouncing back to Target for some reason. So she resent it from an alternate email on her end and it came right through. So Target isn’t on my no go list, but I think e-cards will be on the no shopping list for a while. Maybe someone will have a good Black Friday on physical cards next month.

I stopped shopping at WalMart more than 20 years ago and nothing has yet compelled me to go back. My city doesn’t even have one, which I hadn’t noticed until I read an article about how my city won’t allow them to move in because :snooty:. We do have Target, and my kids think getting a Starbucks and browsing the toy aisles is a peak life experience so we do that on occasion. Most of our shopping is done online, though.

We don't have Target in Canada. It was quite the fiasco when it came up here lol.
So Walmart is the only option except some smaller stores. As in the only option of the type of large variety store.

Walmart squashed our Canadian Zellers when it came up here. It was comparable.

We do buy some groceries and household stuff from Walmart.
:sad1: Sadly true. And the demise of Sears turned convenient, mid-price routine shopping into a wasteland here in Canada. By necessity, I shop a lot at WalMart. Household goods and cleaning/laundry supplies I sometimes buy at Canadian Tire and cosmetics, personal care and the occasional item of apparel come from the SuperStore.

The last Target I was in, about 18 months ago in Long Beach, CA, was a bitter disappointment. It was in a sketchy neighbourhood, the store itself smelled weird and was not clean, a lot of the shelves were bare and what was there was a big mess. Oh, and the prices for any given item were about 25% higher (not including exchange) that comparable stuff would have been at WalMart here at home.

Wal-Mart has both self checkout and lines with actual employees. They are typically well priced. Target is the better shopping experience. Target typically does not lock things up like Wal-mart, but they will probably have to. With all the ridiculous flash mob thefts it must be tough. I don't blame them.

I used to be a Target-Only girl but lately they only have self checkout available. I had a bunch of stuff yesterday and the one line that was open was closing. I asked if another line would open and the lady told me it would open when the other employee returned from break.

The Wal-Mart nearby is awful. It's hard to find anything since the shelves aren't managed and it's impossible to find help. The Neighborhood Market is so dark I have trouble picking produce. The Target is quite nice and I have a Target debit card which takes 5% off so I shop there. I also shop at Sam's Club (cheapest diabetes testing supplies), Costco, Tom Thumb, Albertsons, Central Market for special occasions, and Trader Joes.

The Target near me was the first store I ever saw items locked up.(other than the expensive liquor at the grocery store). Sadly, now Walmart does too.

if it's strictly walmart vs target then it depends on what i'm looking for---

groceries? walmart b/c the targets around us only have about 20% of the selection. now there are a few food products i can only get at target so since they are shelf stable i order them.

cleaning products and such? target-they tend to have better sales/promotions.

christmas shopping? i find target's delivery much more reliable plus they tend to have better sales.

I shop at Walmart, only because the one by me is very nice. I have been to other ones in the area and realize why Walmart has such a bad reputation!

The Target next to the Walmart I shop at always seems to be out of too many things. I rarely shop there.

Where do you like to do all of your shopping? Where do you think you can find the best deals?
There is no WM near me and the only items I regularly purchase from Target’s are paper goods. This may end/lessen soon as I recently bought a bidet.

I don’t really like either one anymore but tend to pick Walmart if I have to. I used to love Target but now they only have self checkout registers and the lines are a mile long. The only thing at Target that is better is their toy selection.

Walmart typically has the best prices on boxed or canned food. I typically buy those types of things there. I stock up on big boxes of goldfish crackers and dole fruit cups for the kids since they have the best prices.

I typically order 95% of all my stuff online and have it delivered or curbside pickup so I rarely have to step foot in on of the stores. In the last year I think I went into a Target once. My dd19 asked me to pick up 1 item since I was at the movies next door. I walked in and the line for check out stretched across the store, so I turned around and left.

I did go to Walmart a few months because I needed a toy for a gift. I was in the toy dept and it was probably around 8am so the store wasn’t very busy. An employee got in the intercom and started talking on the loud speaker and started going on a very political rant about something. It was the strangest thing. I just couldn’t believe an employee could get away with doing something like that. I thought maybe it was a fluke but I stopped there for something for our Halloween display and there was more weird announcements on the overhead. It made me pretty uncomfortable bc I just want to hear some little music or something, not peoples personal views while I shop.

Walmart easily. I've never had a bad experience at the probably more than 50 (I'd even say close to 100 at this point) I've been to all over the country.

Target is for one particular cleaning item every now and then where I pick up other stuff when I am in there otherwise it is needlessly overpriced. Went yesterday & stocked up on the compostable cleaning wipes I like.

Walmart is great for packaged household stuff like cleaning stuff, paper goods, toiletries, OTC medicines & any boxed or canned foods like canned veggies, Halloween Candy and crackers. Picking up a few things curbside today.

Raw items like meat and produce are from entirely different places.
Halloween Candy ! ..I have been everywhere searching repeatedly for the Snickers Almond treat size . My favorite Halloween candy!
Finally found it in stock at Wal Mart . I knew it would surface eventually but expected the wait would be as a holiday stocking stuffer.
And now I have to go back for more because somebody is eating my Snickers!
Before Halloween!

I don't have either in my town. I usually shop at a smaller grocery store that's closer, and just go to Walmart or Target when I need other stuff too. - They're in opposite directions, so I pick whichever "clusters" better with my other errands.

Thankfully, both are clean and well-kept-up here. I've been in some that I didn't like, but I definitely think it's the individual locations.

My "go to" store like that is Meijer. It seems like a good compromise. If you use the rewards program and coupons and average everything out, they are probably not much more expensive than Walmart. It seems like Meijer is a much better shopping experience than Target or Walmart.

Between Target and Walmart I would give a slight edge to Walmart because they seem to have a bit better selection (this probably varies by location), and cheaper prices. It seems like Target is trying too hard to be upscale, and the atmosphere is weird. Walmart is pretty much a soul crushing experience, it is definitely not unusual for them not to have what I am looking for. It's crowded, the design is poor, and it is like a zoo. It also seems that the "online order" employees are either in your way, parked in front of what you are trying to get to, or running over you with those huge carts. It seems like every time I go in Walmart I swear it is my last trip :rotfl2:

All of that to say Meijer is far from perfect, but it seems to be the best choice for me when it comes to everyday grocery and general merchandise shopping.

Walmart. They have better prices and more variety. Our Target doesn't have much variety in style or size, and although they have a nice grocery section, it's pricy. The store is also disorganized with stuff all over the place; I don't think they have enough help. Walmart has it's own issues, but at least we all know what it is. Target always feels like its trying to be Kohl's or something- and it's not (although I was just at Kohl's today and it's turned into a chaotic dump, so maybe not a great comparison?). I don't buy produce or meat at either store.

We shop at both. From the sounds of it, we are pretty lucky to have stores that are nice, clean, and have friendly people. Everything is always well stocked, except in very special circumstances like during COVID. I prefer shopping at Walmart for groceries than grocery stores as it seems more organized and easier to find with much more space for people to shop. That is probably a YMMV.

I can't speak to the clothes selection, I generally don't purchase clothing at either store except for socks. I'll look through the clearance section, though!

I always hear about the poor working conditions and low pay, but it seems pretty fair where we live. Walmart here starts employees at around $17.00/hour, more if you work in specialized areas. Target starts at $15.50. I'm not sure if that is higher or less than the rest of the country.

Walmart’s about a 5 minute drive compared to Target at 20 with more traffic and a lot more stoplights so I rarely go there. Most of it grocery pickup. I buy my produce and any meat or poultry at a smaller local grocery.

We do not have a Walmart. I have ordered on-line (once/twice a year). I have shopped in the store (usually when we are traveling).

We do have two Targets. Both 20 and 30 minutes away.
