Target VS. Walmart?

I know many people do a good portion of their grocery shopping at Walmart (including myself). But truthfully, even though it is much cheaper than our local grocery store, I'm getting tired of going there. It's a 20 min drive to boot.

We will be having a Target opening up in October (maybe 10 mins away--right now, the closest one is almost an hour away) If you shop (grocery wise) there, what are your thoughts? How is it price-wise? Selection? I'm not sure if it's going to be SuperTarget or not.

I have found that almost EVERYTHING is cheaper at walmart than target. a bookbag set with supplies was $19 at walmart, $23 at target. in terms of grocery items, I also find walmart carries more reasonable brands, better selection. I prefer walmart for groceries over target.

The nearest Target to our house is an hour away. I was there a couple weeks ago and perused their grocery section. Everything was more expensive than the Walmart 2 miles from my house.

Our Target is just a regular one and I do buy some food there. I honestly can't stand going to our local Walmart. It is such a pit! It always looks dirty and messy. I can't even imagine buying food there.

My sister lives in IL and her husband works at their Walmart. It is practically the only place to shop where they are. When I was visiting in May, we went there and the store just looked so much nicer than our local Walmart.

So, for this reason, I never buy groceries at our Walmart. But Target doesn't have much in terms of groceries, so I still shop at a local grocery store.

I find the prices comparable. The little bit more you pay at Target would probably offset the cost of the gas to get to Walmart! I usually find that Walmart's prices only seem like a lot less for some of the items. For example, soup at Walmart would be $1.59 & $1.62 at Target. My mind assosicates Target being more expensive because of the jump in tenths digit. Maybe I'm just weird! :rotfl:

I definitely prefer Target around here. My closest Walmart is NOT nice (and some of the people scare me! lol!)! Either way, both stores are WAYYY cheaper than the local grocery store!

Food at Target is no cheaper than my local Publix. Wal-mart is cheaper for most things. I have started picking up a few things at the Dollar General. I shop sales. I'm loyal to no store ;) Here is a site that has all the weekly flyers.

I go to a super walmart every other wednesday. Just went last night. MUCH better pricing than any of our grocery stores. It's about 10 minutes from where I work, but over 30 from my house so I go direct from work and then make the loop home. I have cut our bill by at least 100 bucks a month by shopping at walmart.

Target does have decent pricing but they don't carry the meats and veggies and that's a big place that I save $$$ on at Walmart. I like the 1 stop shop even if it's a PIA to go twice a month.

Also, I used to go 4 times a month and I find that we save lots of $$ by only going twice. It forces us to make a good list and use the products at home before purchasing doubles and wasting food.

Here our SuperTarget and Wal-Mart Supercenter are pretty close on grocery prices (we have a regional chain called Fareway that has great weekly specials, so we usually make a weekly stop there). I shop Target because I HATE Wal-Mart - it's always so dirty and crowded there. Plus, Target carries organic food and some name brands (such as Newman's Own) that our Wal-Mart doesn't. Right now the only things that gets us to go to Wal-Mart are Kleenex with lotion (3 pack for $3.99 vs. $5.49 at Target), large packages of Charmin Plus, and the Hartz Dental Bones my dogs chew. Otherwise, it's Target for us. We go there twice a week, and when they have specials or clearance items, you can get really good deals.
