Is Target able to look up your receipt in their system? I have a stroller to return, but I've been holding off because I can't find my receipt. I don't want a gift card, I want to get a different one that they don't carry. Anyone know their policy off the top of their head?:confused3
Thanks!

I know they can look it up with your credit card. I think they can look it up by check, but I am not sure about that, though.

I believe you have to know the number on the card if it was charged. If cash or a check were used then you are out of luck. I tried to return a rather pricey couch cover that kept slipping off to the store, it was a gift and I wanted to try another cover. They wouldn't let me do anything without either a receipt or the card number so I'm stuck with a $149 item that will never be used.

We do have the credit card that it was used for. I guess it doesn't hurt to try, right? I've been reading all the bad reviews online about their horrible return policy (that isn't posted for some reason?). The stroller is a maclaren that we bought for 99.00 but ended up never using.

As long as you have the card, you'll have no problem returning it...as long as it's w/in their timeframe...I believe 90days. I never keep receipts...and they've always looked it up. :-)

This is off Target.com:

In most instances, Target stores can verify purchases made within the last 90 days on a store account, third-party charge account, check or GiftCard using our unique Receipt Look-up system.

From the back of my Target receipt:

All returns and exchanges must be new, unused and have original packaging and accessories. Some items cannot be returned if opened.

For the full return and exchange policy, log on to Target. com or visit any store.

For a gift receipt, bring this receipt back to any Target store within 90 days.
Ask about receipt look up.

So that means they can just put the money back on the card, right? :thumbsup2

Our Target stores are real sticklers about having a receipt. In fact, I *almost*:rotfl: didn't buy anything from there this Christmas because of their return policies. I'm curious to see if they actually do look up your receipt for you. Will you keep us posted? I would love to hear they've changed in this dept.

no target isn't sticklers for receipts. their company policy is to be able to look up your purchase using your credit card or check if it within the last 90 days. if your store isn't following company policy then you should contact corporate and make a complaint.

My daughter returned items after Christmas WITH the register reciept and they would only give her the final sale price as the items were purchased 90 days out....she decided then and there that she would buy no more clothes for her step-daughter there...so sad as she returned 3 outfits and only got $8 plus change:( she was not too happy...the sad part about it, they already had her money and they could sell the returned items again...but instead, they lost a customer...good luck...

I just returned something to Target less than 30 minutes ago without a receipt. I had purchased it in late April so was within the 90 day time frame. There were only two cards I would've used so I handed them the first one, it showed that it was the one I used and my card was credited with the amount I paid. Could not have been easier. Their return policy is clearly posted in the store (and on their receipts).

oh, come on, who would be buying clothes that are 90+ days old? those items may be sold, but at clearance prices. if target never changed clothing styles then they could take back returns indefinately. styles and seasons change, that's why they put a limit on days to return.

I know I've never had a problem with returns at our Target. They've always been able to look up my receipts when I didn't have them, or if I did, it only took a few minutes. Actually, more like 2 minutes, since all they have to do is scan the receipt and that's it!

I would think that if some Targets aren't following the policy, then you should contact corporate. If they have the policy, stated on the receipt, then they should be following it!

And I could understand setting a 90 day limit no matter with a receipt or without. Like someone else said, that's a LONG time for clothing to change! Although that's why Carters is one of my favorite stores for my kids, they have no limit on return time. I've returned things over a year later, with the receipt, and no problems at all!

It sounds like it must be a local thing for our Targets then. I'm not contacting the corporate office because it doesn't really bother me too much as I rarely return things. It's just at Christmas it's a pain. I know it isn't just me that has run into problems because at Christmas it was a HOT topic for almost every mom I know. Our stores would only give a store credit with the receipt regardless of how it was purchased (cash, credit, gift card). Maybe there has been more of an abuse of returns around here??
edited to add: NO returns were accepted without a receipt and I don't recall any mention of them looking up a receipt. Again, this was our Target and directly after Christmas.

As long as you give them the credit or debit card you used to make the purchase and it's within 90 days, they can look it up. I do this ALL the time. They swipe your card and their computer finds the purchase date & price. They will give you the money back in cash or will put it back on your card. It's quick and easy.

Now, if you don't have the card you used, then they won't take it back. One time I made a purchase with my debit card, but then my credit union reissued new debit cards to all of its members due to a potential security problem. I had to return something to Target but when they swiped my new debit card, the purchase did not show up because the card # was different, even though it was the same bank account. Luckily, I still had my old card at home, so I had to go back and get it and then the return worked just fine. If your credit/debit card gets lost or stolen and you don't have the receipt, you are out of luck.
