I've read through some of the threads but just looking for substantiation.

Upcoming DCL in November. I have a Target card attached to my debit account. It's my understanding that if I buy Disney gift cards at Target, I will get my Target Red Discount. Target limits the gift cards to $150 at a time so I would need to purchase in increments.

After I get my Disney Gift Cards, do I them go to Guest Services and ask them to be loaded onto my onboard account?

Thanks!

We have the same card. You do get the 5% discount (yay!); so we pay $95 for the $100 card. I've never had a limit on the amount of cards. Once I purchased $900 at one time. This was all in store; online may be different. For loading, I use them to pay for the cruise ("Make Payment" on the DCL website under My Reservations) or have called DCL and had them applied to my account beforehand (for prepaid gratuities, excursions or just a chunk of money for drinks/shopping whatever).

For the GC, you can go to Disney gift card website (www.disneygiftcard.com) to have them roll up to a single card of I think $1500 so that should a refund be in order, they can refund the large amount to a single card that you can re-use. Of note, when the port taxes/fees changed for our upcoming E. Carib cruise that is paid in full, I had the credit applied to our next year Alaska cruise that I'm paying off.

You can bring the card on the ship and go to Guest Services if you want, we've just called and taken care of it that way, though.

Enjoy your cruise!!

You can call DCL directly and put them on your on-board account. Just make sure to keep the cards in case of refund.

We have often bought large amounts of cards in the store. Once, we were told there is a limit of 4 ($200.00) but I think the girl just didn't want to ring them all in. We have bought more since then with no issues.

You can also visit guest services when you board to have the gift card added to your stateroom. They will charge it 1st (until its gone). I would recommend consolidating all the cards into one on the Disney gift card website to make it easier. Then you only have to worry about 1 card not the whole stack.

I bought $1500 in store one time. The clerk was not sure if she could ring all them up at once thinking there was a limit. She called over a supervisor and he was unsure as well. He said just keep ringing them up until it does not let you anymore. I was able to purchase all $1500 in one transaction. The only thing is it takes forever for the receipt to generate and print :lmao:

I love using the Disney Gift Card site to combine gift cards.

  • From the website: For your convenience, you can transfer full card balances from one Disney Gift Card to another. You can transfer amounts up to $1,000, but don't forget that each card can only hold a maximum value of $1,000.

i bought $1,000 in cards a week ago and $500 this week for a total of $1,425 out of pocket. both times i went through the self checkout with a minimum of fuss. the only issue is the scanner sometimes picks up the UPC code but not the authorization code. just zap the back of the card with the hand scanner and it takes care of it.

the biggest problem was that i could not find any $100 cards, only $50 ones. i saw it mentioned in another thread that target might be phasing these out. anyone with info on that?

It seems to come and go with their supply. Most of the time, our local Target has plenty of $100 cards, but will run out for 2-3 weeks before resupply.

here's another trick i recently learned: two people can have the same card registered on their respective Disney Gift Card accounts. so, basically, you can set up a system where you are effectively transferring money between each other. in my case, the person who will "pay" for our trip is a florida resident but i live out of state. so i'm able to transfer the money for my part of the trip to them directly without having to carry the cards on my physical person (and take a chance of losing them).

The $150 gift card limit is if you're buying the gift cards on the Target website I think. You can buy as much as you want inside the target stores.
I haven't bought from target.com since they stopped allowing you to get the 5% red card discount, but then actually pay with a discounted Target gift card, but they used to limit the number of card you could buy in a single order. There was no problem placing multiple orders during the same online session.

We noticed yesterday our local Target only had a small handful of $25 Disney Gift Cards. But they had a substantial supply of Disneyland Resort park tickets, which we haven't seen there before. We are curious if others have seen something similar. Is this a general trend? Or is this a temporary market test in our local store?

We've actually started to purchase Disney Gift Cards more from Sam's Club. They have $500 gift cards for $479.98. Using a cash-back rewards credit card to purchase these cards makes it about 5% off or better, depending on the credit card. But we are still concerned about the availability of gift cards at Target. Having a product available at more than one location is important for convenience and competition.
