Target/Disney Gift card issue

Has anyone ever had their gift cards stolen before they even made it to your house when ordering off target website?
I had 5 $100 gift cards taken before they even made it to my house. USPS delivered a torn/opened envelope with the cards taken out. Target says its a Disney issue because its their card and Disney says they are sold by Target so its Target's issue. I filed a complaint with the postal inspector general who is investigating on their end. But in the mean time Target is telling me my loss and I'm just out $500. Any guidance from someone who has experience with this would be great.

Who did you purchase the cards through? It's "their" issue.

If I buy a Disney Gift Card directly at Target, and when I get it home, find it's damaged to the extent I can't use it, I take it back to Target.

But, it could be a post office issue, since they were the ones delivering the envelope.

If you lose your cards, yes, it's pretty much a loss on your part. That's why I only buy directly. That way I have the card in my hand as soon as it's paid for.

I agree with Shmoo that it sounds like a post office theft issue.

I only do e-gift cards through Target. Then I transfer it to a card I bought in person.

I bought them online from Target. I received a ripped open envelope in my locked mailbox. Disney says I bought it through Target so they cant do anything without card numbers. Target is saying there is nothing they can do and that they dont even have card numbers. How can they send anyone cards with no records of what cards were even mailed. The post office wants to know if they cards have been used and where so they can find out if its their employee. This is such a mess. I can't be out $500.

Now I know about the e-gift cards. I have bought over $10,000 in gift cards from Target with no issues. I'm sure USPS isn't going to give me the $500 I'm out. They went from Target to FedEx to USPS

Yes, you bought them through Target. Disney would not be able to do anything. They don't know what the numbers on the cards would be that Target sent you.

Target, likewise, doesn't keep a record of the card numbers when you buy them.

Target delivered the purchase to the post office to deliver to you.

When you received it, the envelope was ripped. The post office bears the responsibility. You'd have to show them (with your claim) that you purchased $500 worth of product, and, due to their negligence, it's gone.

The word "trust" and USPS don't belong in the same sentence. Shipping anything like a gift card with them is irresponsible on Target's behalf. They shipped something worth $500 of value uninsured, that is irresponsible on their part, big time.

I can't see how this is at all a Disney issue. No difference if you bought a Mickey Mouse plush from Target, if it's stolen its' between you, USPS and Target.

It was shipped with SmartPost, for something of that value it never should have touched USPS hands. With the number of hands on it between Target, FedEx and USPS it's going to be a lot of people pointing fingers. But IMHO it falls on the USPS since they were the last ones to touch it and if the envelop was torn open they should have rejected it upon receipt from FedEx, but they didn't so I think they owe you the $500. But I'd also say, good luck getting it back from them. Next time UPS or FedEx to a work location or use one of the FedEx/USP offices to pick it up at.

Sorry for your loss. :(

Target is the one telling me to call Disney since its their product, dealing with a bunch of incompetent people. Target said they are the middle man selling Disney cards.

We as consumers have no idea who they are shipping through until it arrives or you get the shipped email.

I agree with the other posters. It sounds like a shipper issues and the shipping company. The cards should have been insured by Target for shipping with USPS so you should be able to recover the funds that way. I shipped something USPS and they lost it. I had insured the package so I got my money back.

When I have received a box at the post office from FedEx or UPS and it's damaged, the PO is right on it and showing the damage before I accept it. I can reject it at that point.

Therefore, your situation stinks of an inside job at the PO. Keep the heat on them and get your $500 back.

Your mail person put an ripped open envelope in your mailbox?! Years ago I sold something on half.com. I shipped it at the PO and at some point along the way a USPS employee opened the factory sealed side of the manila envelope and took out the video game inside. A little further down the road someone realized the envelope was empty and it was stamped to state it was found to be opened and empty with a date and location. It continued on it's way to the recipient. Once they received it they contacted me. They shipped the empty envelope back to me and I took it into my PO. Showed them how it was received with the stamp and all. It obviously had contents when I shipped it was it had weight listed. Basically, there was no way to track down what actually happened. I had to give the buyer a refund and nothing else ever happened.
Anyway, I'm really surprised there was not some system like this along the way where someone said "hey, wait...this has been opened" and did something to at least clear themselves!

Under no circumstance can you say that this is Disney's fault. They didn't sell you the gift cards. Target trying to blame Disney baffles me. I'd also be pointing the finger at USPS for delivering a damaged package. Having said that, if I were USPS, I could see them potentially saying, "How do we know that you didn't get the gift cards, tear the envelope yourself, and now you want to double your money?" I know that in the past when I got damaged mail by the USPS they would include a form saying that it had been damaged in transit. Did you get anything like that?

Anyway you look at it this is going to cause a massive headache for you. My sympathies. Let us know what the final outcome is. (I'm not sure if a credit card will take a claim on a gift card purchase since it is a "cash" transaction. Similar to why scammers always have you purchase a Western Union money order or some other "cash" vehicle.)

I was arguing with the Target gift card specialist as she was trying to tell me Disney should be involved. Disney told me they are just trying to pass the buck.
Absolutely no note or anything was left besides that empty envelope. How can these cards not be traced if they scan them to activate them? This is just crazy to me I made an expensive purchase and now I am expected to just be out that money.

Exactly! The inspector general is going to track down the employee that delivered my mail that day. The part that is sealed when they tape it together was very dirty. Thats where it was torn open at, so it had been tampered with awhile ago for it to be that dirty at the sticky tape area.

That is my goal. But to me the fight should be between Target and the PO. I will not let this go without a fight, its just too much money.

Target is taking the stance of.....This is my problem not theirs. I will get in contact with their CEO if I have to.
