Anyone have a Target Debit Card (which come directly out of your own checking account) or the Target Visa Credit Card?

We are always getting asked if we want to sign up because we could save 5% every time we shop. I'm seriously considering it...if only the Debit card (our credit sucks, so I know we'd never get approved for the CC itself). We spend about $500 a month at Target on groceries and other items.

I was just wondering if anyone has either of the cards and if they like it?

I have the Target store card, not debit or Visa.

I didn't use it very often until they added the 5% instant savings. I think the interest rate is pretty high but that shouldn't matter if it is paid in full.

I also have the Target store card, not the Target Visa or debit. I use it every trip, even if I am just buying one or two things. I spend about $400 a month at Target, so the 5% is a nice little discount.

I got the debit card just before Christmas. We were spending about $500 that night. I always thought it was just 5% off one time. As soon as I heard it was every time, I was in! I am like you and spend a lot there every month but don't want a credit card. I use it every time I go and have had no issues.

I have the debit card -- if you have sketchy credit, that should work well for you, as no credit checks are performed (you must have a valid checking account, however).

As for the 5% savings - they are very much real (meaning you'll save $25 a month, based on what you shared with us).

All you need to do is give the cashier a blank check for them to scan, and you'll get your plastic card from Target in a few days.

I love my Target debit card. I would be using my regular debit card and paying 5 percent more each trip if I didn't have it.

There is a bonus and forgive me if I am not exactly right, they just changed this part of the program. If you use the Target pharmacy, you can earn additional rewards. Each time you fill 5 prescriptions, they send you a certificate for an additional 5% off. So then you get to save 10% on whatever day you choose to use it and it is good all day. The certificates are ususally good for 60 days. I believe that the discount also applies to your pharmacy purchases as well.

I used to have the Target card that I used to get the rewards, but once I got the debit card I quit using the Target credit card. If you are a regular Target shopper, I can't see why you would not get one.

Wow! How did I not know this???!! I shop at Target all the time and buy groceries from super target!

Where does the cash back go? Do they just credit it back to you. I would want the debit card. Also, do you need to change bank accounts? Dh has direct deposit and it would be a pain to switch.

They take the 5% off your bill each time you use it. So you see the discount immediately. :goodvibes

They link the card to whatever checking account you want them too, no new account needed.

Thank you! Sounds like a win/win situation!

We have the Target debit card. I love my 5%!! We fill all our prescriptions at Target so we just got our first additional 5% coupon. Can't wait to use it!

I've had a couple of minor issues. The first one was shortly after I'd gotten the card & was doing some major Christmas shopping. I'd bought a bunch of stuff at one Target in the morning and tried to get something at another store that afternoon. My card was declined because I'd met their pre-set spending limit for the day (I think it was $500). Of course, they couldn't tell me what that limit actually was. They said it would go up as I built a history.

The second issue was one day I'd gone shopping in the morning & gotten cash back. DH tried to buy some stuff in the evening and asked for cash back. His transaction got declined because it would've exceeded the $40 a day cash back limit. If he hadn't asked for cash back, it would've gone through. Not sure if the daily cash back limit goes up as you build history or not.

Other than those 2 minor issues, I love my card.

I have that Target debit card and love saving the extra 5%. My mom works there so I actually get 15% of total after the employee discount. My only complaint is how long it takes to hit my account (usually around 3 days).

We have the target credit card - I LOVE IT.
But heck if the debit is easy to get - what would be stopping me from getting that too? I mean, it'd be one less step for me - I end up just writing a check from my checking account when the target bill comes... just sayin...

But seriously - go for it. I love target - plus they take target coupons plus regular coupons. win win!

I got the Debit card before Christmas and I love the discount.

op - thanks for asking! Will have to sign up for the debit card next time I go! Does it work with buying gift cards too?

My Target credit card was the VERY FIRST card I got all on my own after my divorce. Scary I know. I only use it for holidays really and with the new 5% discount I have found myself actually using it more for other things instead of just swiping my debit.

Around Christmas I was purchasing the new Call Of Duty game for one of my sons, when I went to swipe my debit card the nice cashier asked if I was interested in the Target Debit. At first I said I already had a card then it dawned on me what he said. So I asked a few questions and he asked if I wanted to go ahead and I said nope. My dh would kill me if he knew how much I really spent there every month!

I am thankful everyday we have an account we share and each have an account for our cc etc.

You cannot get a discount on Target gift cards, but I have gotten the discount on Itunes cards. I usually wait to buy those for when I have the extra discount.

I did have a similiar problem to this. I went into the optical dept and ordered a years worth of contacts. I then went and did my regular shopping. My card was declined and I was soooo embarrassed. I found out that I had exceeded my daily limit. I then whipped out my regular debit card and paid the bill. This was before the discount so I really didn't care.

By the way.....if you wear glasses or contacts, you can use the discount when you purchase glasses or contacts at Target optical. Every little bit helps!

Oooo...cool! I didn't know that about the prescriptions. It's actually cheaper for DH and I to fill our scripts are Target than anywhere else. :P Bonus!

You're welcome. :)

Looks like we'll hand over a blank check when we go tomorrow so we can get the debit card. :)

And as for the CC...DH and I are trying to get our CC's paid off (via debt settlement). And the one CC we are keeping is through our credit union (and we'll be keeping it because our APR is right abou 10% or under). :)

Thanks all for your posts answering my question!! :)

Thanks for posting this. I did not know that you even got the 5% with just the debit card. I signed up for one today since I do a lot of shopping at our target for household items, and some food.
