Does anyone know if there is a change in the Target policy on Disney cards? I always expect a hard time as cashiers just don't know, but today refused by on-duty manager. I did Target Chat (which sounds third world) and he said it was changed 'last year' (didn't have date) and called them third party cards (which I understand) did not specify Disney. This does not appear to be in writing anywhere that they do this. I am so confused on these cards.

There have been a few posters on the Disney Gift Card Deals thread who have reported problems using Target GCs to purchase Disney GCs in stores located in SoCal. I just bought 3*$50 Disney GCs using $150 in Target GCs today at my local Target in SEPA.

It seems to be something that is happening with increasing frequency. I fear the days of using Target cards to buy Disney cards may be coming to an end :( I can still do it in my store in Northern California, but I know it may end any time so I wouldn't put a lot into Target cards for that purpose if I didn't want to tie up the money in case it didn't work.

I successfully used target gc’s to purchase $500 total in Disney gift cards this week. I used self checkout and it worked without any issues.

From what I have read, there were literally hundreds of Disney cards purchased with Target cards from the Target 10% sale in early December. I was concerned that something had changed in the past few weeks, especially after the dismal Target Chat session. And, this wasn't the Target I normally use. But my Target took three people to confirm my purchase. I really do not understand why Target employees are not taught about Disney 'entertainment' cards. Do they want to keep this to as few as possible.Trust me, the people I have dealt with are quite firm that they don't do it. I will try my normal Target tomorrow and see what happens.

And now they scratch off the silver thing on the back to type in the code. At least in SoCAL

No problem using them to buy Disney gift cards in my Texas store.

I’ve purchased them at my local Target, but now several of the cards require the access code on the back of the card to be entered by the cashier (even at self checkout!). I had one Target person tell me you can’t purchase with Target GC and I said, yes, you can, I just did it, but you need to enter the access code. :) Visa, MC Amex cards cannot be purchased with Target GCs, but Disney should be fine.

When I bought my Target cards originally, you could even buy Disney cards online with them. Now it's not possible online. I've been successful in store only when my total purchase exceeds the amount of the Target gift card I'm trying to use and the cashier is able to enter a secondary payment method...i.e. buy $100 Disney gift cards and some odds and ends so my total purchase was $109, then it didn't give the cashier a hard time about using $100 Target card plus something else for payment. Hope that makes sense.

You shouldn’t have to buy more than the GC. The register allows the payment.

I have never done this Target/Disney gift card thing before but just purchased $100 of Target cards to try it out. How can you get the red card discount if you pay with gift cards? When do you swipe the red card if you aren't using it for payment? TIA

You can no longer get the redcard discount in addition to using Target GCs. The discount will be if you purchased discounted Target GCs and use them in store (only) to buy the Disney GCs. Alternatively you can use your Target redcard to purchase a Disney GCs at 5% off. I have heard this is still working online, if you purchase in the store be sure to check your receipt that the 5% came off. Note, if you use Target GCs and the redcard, the 5% is only off the portion of your bill that the Target GCs do not cover (in store, Target GCs for Disney GCs will not work online).

Hmm... I have heard that things have changed but also that some people are still getting the red card 5% off depending on the store. Is anyone else out there still having luck doing this?

The redcard works, but not in addition to the GCs (no double discount). As noted, if you have a $200 purchase and $150 in Target GCs, it will apply the $150 first and then you get 5% off the remaining $50 (in store only - the register automatically calculates it). If your Target GCs cover your entire purchase, you never swipe your Target redcard.

Your answer is exactly what I am seeing everywhere else I've been checking but I've heard the Backside of Magic guys talking about doing the target gift card thing as recently as yesterday. I'm going to reach out to them for clarification but sometimes it takes them a while to answer.

Will be interested in the response as I have experience with it and the loophole stopped at least a year ago.

You got me curious so I listened to their podcast from yesterday and the only thing I thought they mentioned about target gift cards is the one store that was requiring an employee to enter the access code at self checkout had been updated to allow the customer to enter it (like the other stores in his area). I didn't hear them discuss anything about discounts. What did I miss?

Yes, this was a change from a few weeks back when the associate had to enter it. What a pain! So glad they changed it so that the customer can enter it now!

You are correct about yesterdays episode. That is all they mention, but listening to episodes as recently as January (I think episode 104 or 105?), they are still talking about getting around 8% which suggests that they are getting the discount Target gift cards at around 3% off with an extra 5%. I emailed them to clarify this and hope to hear back soon.

FWIW, I don't think they'd still be talking about buying Disney GCs at Target unless they were getting a deal. Everyone knows you can still get 5% off very easily.

And yes... I could be totally wrong about this whole thing but we'll see.
