Has anyone ever had their foot taped to help relieve plantar fasciitis while at Disney? Did it help at all?

Patty

Yes - when done right it felt a lot like my foot was in a walking boot and it did help.

I highly doubt it would have helped me enough to walk enough in the parks, but it did help keep my foot flexed and I didn't have as much pain as when it was not taped.

But it also depended on who did the taping...one of my PT's did a great job and it helped and one of them was not quite as good at it...and I have no idea why? But that was my experience with taping.

I am now in a boot and it really helps with daily walking - my foot doesn't hurt at all - but there is no way I could walk all over the parks in the boot, though.

It is definitely worth trying...if it doesn't work, you could just take the tape off.

When I first went to the podiatrist and got the diagnosis of plantar fasciitis, he taped my foot (one foot was far worse than the other), and had me wear the tape for a week. The relief was immediate and lasted the whole week. I now wear orthotics in both shoes..I haven't had any problems since getting the orthotics.

This was my experience also. I got my orthotics a few days before my 8 day trip and was worried so I continued to tape my foot, I had no pain at all.

Have you tried using SKetcher TOne-up shoes. I had plantar and started wearing them and have not had one flare up since.

I didn't do tape, but I did use one of the lace up ankle braces. It worked really well.

Thanks for that tip, i had problems in the park and at the beach where I was on crutches for a week after walking too much on rocks out of the blue. I never know what shoes to try. Anyone have any other success with specific shoe types?

My mom has this, and it is terrible. I will definitely recommend this to her! Also, she bought a pair of skechers shape-ups, so my hope is that when she starts wearing them and getting used to them, that the fasciitis will go away. :goodvibes

I had PF last year when I went. I had insoles from my Dr. (Power Step Protec Full Length) inside my Ascis 2140 sneakers. At night I used a night splint. I highly suggest this one. This is what I used.

I am finally healed, but it took months of stretching and physical therapy to get to this point. I still do some stretching first thing in the morning, before I get out of bed. I spent the summer in the Sketchers tone up sandals. Maybe you can find a pair now on sale to wear around the house. As soon as I put them on, I knew they would be helpful. The angle they are at, removed all pressure on my heel!

I also used Biofreeze on my heel and took gel packs to use at night. (I got a drs note to be able to take them in the carryon through security. Going down to FL, they wiped the bag down. Coming home they didn't bat an eye at them) Also, take some Advil or Aleeve with you.

Wow, this caught my eye even though i was looking for other information.

I am a CKTP, which means I am a certified Kinesio Tape Practitioner as well as an medical massage therapist and I have had great success using kinesio tape to alleviate the pain of plantar fasciitis. You can find a great and certified taper by visiting www.kinesiotaping.com/cktp.php to find a trained practitioner near you. The practitioners listed here have been trained and passed a competency test to ensure they are competant.

A few things to think about, if you want to try to self tape, make sure you know exactly what you are doing and how to apply the tape. If you apply the tape incorrectly you may exacerbate your condition rather than help it. If you pull the tissue in the wrong direction it is counter productive, or put it on too tightly you can shear the skin. It's important to know the difference in what kind of correction you are looking to provide. The PF taping is a combination taping of mechanical corrections, lymphatic drainage and soft tissue correction so it's tricky to do right. Also for a PF taping it is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to get into the correct positions to tape yourself (trust me, I've tried) :rotfl2: <----- This is how I look when I try to do it.

And lastly, to the PP who mentioned it's a temporary fix - well, yes and no. While a PF taping CAN provide temporary relief that isn't to say it won't help to end a flare up earlier by allowing the lymphatic system to do it's job and clear the inflamation from the affected more quickly. The tape doesn't do anything magical. It puts your tissue in a position to allow it to heal itself and can decrease the pressure on the pain receptors. So yes, it's a temporary pain relief but used consistently it can end the flare up too. :)

I never travel anywhere without a few I strips and Y strips precut in my luggage! Hope that was helpful, albeit long and wishing you a wonderful time with as little heel pain as possible!!!!

it does help immediately but doesn't cure future flare ups which i still have and have had my foot taped several times.

I think I had PF, though never diagnosed. I used to be on my feet 7-8 hours s night a work. When I'd get home, I lie on my bed to unwind, after that I'd get up and fall on the bed from the pain in my feet. As though someone was stabbing me with a knife. I searched online for what it could be and came up with PF. Then I came on DIS and searched the threads. Someone said to try New Balance wide width. It worked by the second night there was no pain. Went to Disney with a brand new pair (big mistake) they weren't Wide width. DD and I would alternate shoes, but her shoes hurt my knees after so long and my shoes hurt my toes. Couldn't take mine back since I used them so what I did was step into a bathtub with water in it. I was able to stretch them out. It's 5 yrs later and I still wear new balance. Thankfully
no working on my feet all day.

I want to second (or third) the Sketchers Tone-Ups. The don't completely eliminate the pain, but they are fantastic for lessening it. I'm not sure how I functioned without them before now.
