I seriously do not even know where to begin with the reception. We ran around like chickens with our heads cut off in an effort to get everything done in time. We all worked really, really, really hard to make it nice and not ghetto. Most of all we wanted it to be a fun family experience. Of course, it was anything but that. I love my family b/c they are my family, but if I had a choice, I would never pick them. Things have gotten so bad since then, that I barely speak to my own mother. Come on, now. This was supposed to be a celebration.
Quick break down of things that went totally wrong: Our cake
We went back and forth over Dan making a cake and paying to have one made. I really wanted something fun and pretty, but not completely weddingish. We finally decided to fork out some money for someone else to make the cake to take the stress off of our hands. This turned into BIG mistake.
Besides it melting- yes it was supposed to be made out of fondant and not buttercream, it had like everything wrong with it. Wrong flavors, wrong colors, the tiers weren't set right or the right size - so we couldn't get our toppers on there. It was so bad that no one at it other than where we cut it and we took it back to Publix and got a full refund. Oh yes I did go all Bridezilla.
Weather
It has been freezing cold like every week leading up to the reception. It was so cold that we were looking at the possibility of renting heaters to keep the guests warm. Well, we had the hottest, record-breaking day of the year at that point. It was literally like 98 degrees. This made for melting bride and groom, melting guests, melting ice, melting CAKE, and melting candy bar. It was miserable. We all were miserable. Now this is FL, and you would think that we would be used to it, but we aren't.
Plus, it was crazy windy that day. Not just by the water windy, but like knock you down windy. It totally made me regret the outdoor location. By that point, we were just too tuckered out to even attempt to use our back up plan.
Venue
So we paid quite a bit of money to reserve huge parts of the park for the entire day. Only to have the park triple book us!! Yes, two other weddings at the same time in the same exact location made for a disaster. The city is saying that it was a clerical mistake and they can't do anything about it. Nope, won't even refund part of our money.
Decor
100 degree heat and real flowers don't mix. Neither does 100 degree heat and latex mickey ballons. They looked quite obscene after a couple of hours. I don't know how disney keeps them from doing that, but I think that it has something to do with the fact that they have them inside the other balloons.
Before going obscene:
Clothing
Well, me and my dress have issues already. Add on to that 2 antidepressants and some cortisone, and it makes for one chunky bride who is gaining weight. Ugghhh! Then we let the kids' nana dress them and bring them to the reception, and ummm...like Drew had on two vests and no jacket!! Was she drinking? She really means well, but at least make an effort.
Yes there's more. But I'll get to it later. I do have to say that we had certain things that were fun and worth it! The food was awesome - other than the evil cake. We had a local bbq joint cater and it was great. We had so much food left over that we ate it for like a week afterwards. Great food. Yummy, yummy!
Horse drawn carriage!!!! The best and most fun part of the entire day.
They were amazing. We had such a romantic time getting picked up at the hotel and driven all through town down to the park. Then after the ceremony, they stayed the entire time and gave rides all through the park to all of the guest. Awesome! All the guests loved it.
My dove release!!! So happy that I got to do it. It meant a lot to me and Dan symbolically, and was quite - well - amazing again. On the same note, our family jewelry exchange and our sand ceremony were really special. I am so happy to have the little vase with our sand all mixed together in it sitting on our mantel.
My flowers. This goes under the mixed category. Dan got me lots and lots of roses in a variety of colors. These are my favorite flowers! We had so many of them and so many rose petals, that I felt like I wanted to put them all on the bed and swim in them. They were intoxicating. I actually had so many that I threw together a bouquet of real ones at the last minute and LOVED it. It was prettier than my Disney one. You can see it in this pic:
The bad thing about real flowers is that after 3 hrs in that heat, they started to turn to mush. The ones in my bouquet did surprisingly well, but the ones in all the vases looked really sad by the end of the day.
In addition, several of our friends and SIL worked REALLY, REALLY hard to help us pull all of this together, and they were so sweet and special to do that. I cannot thank them enough. I don't know what I would have done without them. But then there is the family...

Aaaahhhh! I just want to run away (to Disney) screaming. Really.
I think I am going to catch some zzzz's while I can and try to get some pics uploaded into photobucket tomorrow, so I can fill everyone in on a few details.
