Tanning

Never. I slather on sunscreen while I'm on vacation so I don't burn. ;)

Yep, I do.

I am very fair skinned and I would just burn and peeled if I didn't try to put a base tan on. I know it is not good to tan but better than a bad burn and a ruined vacaction. I only do it once or twice a year.

Me too :thumbsup2

As an Italian girl with Irish skin, I used to be the one down the shore sitting under the umbrella slathered in Water Babies & still getting burnt.

I haven't had a sunburn since I started tanning & it actually helps me feel better when my SAD (winter blues) licks into high gear.

Yes...Bad I know. I have eczema on my legs. I can get treatments twice a month at the dermatologist, or I can get unlimited tanning for the same price. I tan enough in the spring to have color, and then just one time a week the rest of the year. More if going on vacation.

Ah this makes me feel sooooo much better. I am an anatomy teacher and constantly tell my students how bad tanning is....and now I'm doing it! :sad2:

Absolutely not. I slather on the sunscreen. I've had questionable moles removed in the past and am paranoid now. Plus people that tan regularly when they're younger have more wrinkly, leathery skin when they get older. I'll keep my youthful wrinkle-free skin as long as I can. (I'm 30 and can easily pass for early 20s. :thumbsup2)

I do use Jergens Natural Glow moisturizer for a little color, and I'm considering an airbrush tan for my boudoir pics (which is going to be my gift to myself when I reach my weight loss goal).

I'm really fair and burn always even when slathered in block. I have never tanned at a salon before. I thought you would still burn in the sun even if you tanned in a tanning bed? That isn't true?

The other thing is I burn and peel, I dont tan. Could I actually get tan at a tanning parlor? This concept intrigues me even though I know its bad for you.

No, it's true. There is no such thing as a base tan that will prevent burning.

I started tanning at 15 for SAD and actually worked at a salon for two years. I am now adamantly against tanning beds for myself. I have not tanned in two years and I still have new moles popping up all the time. I also see people all the time where I currently work who look much older than they are because they are frequently outdoors without sunscreen. I do know there are some people who need UV light for medical purposes - I had a customer who actually had a type of cancer (I can't remember specifics - either a bone or skin cancer) and his doctor prescribed tanning. I think people can do what they want, but they should be fully aware of the risks.

Sunscreen isn't nearly as yucky and messy as it used to be, so why not use it? I'm blonde/blue-eyed and was always very bad about using it, but nowdays there's no reason not to. I just spent a week in (southern) Arizona and not one little splotch of sunburn, so proud!

I do use a tan-in-a-can before any winter trips so I don't look quite so pasty though.

I used to. As I get older, the less I care about looking tan and the more I care about not looking as old as I am! I have used the Jergen's lotion and I love it. I will be doing that again this year!

Same here!

But, I'm from Florida so I wear sunscreen daily. I never purposely lay out or try to get tan (I can't- I burn up and look like a lobster) with all the skin cancer information out there..Sunscreen is my friend! :thumbsup2

No way, not worth the risk of cancer IMHO. I will use self tanner before a trip, then just use sunscreen and wear hats during the trip.

As I get older, things that used to matter, like being tan, just don't anymore. Now I am more concerned about skin cancer, moles, wrinkles etc. As I said, just not worth it.

No way. I'm 53 and my skin doesn't look it, and I intend to keep it that way as long as possible.

I USED to...

I am 37, and now have some pre-cancerous places (2) on my face that has to be removed. I also have some awful brown spots I got when I was pg with DS, who is now almost 3... sun would make them worse.

So, I slather on the sunscreen, and wear a lotion with a self tanner in it for color. I might get a little sun on my arms and legs in the summer, from gardening, but I don't deliberately get sun.

Last yr for our Disney cruise, I just used lots of sunscreen and the Jergens lotion with the touch of tanner. I still think I looked good in our vacation photos.

Ok thanks! I guess I stick to slathering lotion.

I do have a question for those that use the tan in a can. Whats a good one to try?

Never would use tanning beds. Rays are very dangerous and cancer causing. I use SPF 50 and embrace being pale. I grew up in the sun and have fair Irish skin, very high risk of skin cancer (my sister just had a squamous cell growth removed).

I tanned like a crazy lady in my 20's in a tanning bed:lovestruc and I layed off it for a couple of years ..however last year i tanned in the bed starting in april and all summer long I was out side in the sunn tanning... WELL IM paying for it.. I now have wrinkles around my eyes big time and my hands are wrinkley:scared::crazy2: looking at my pictures i look like wood:sick:

I really want to tan because I cant stand being so plae..but the wrinkles are holding me back.. if i do im going one week and from now on im useing spf on my face!!!!

oh I like to thank my mom who taught me how to tan...She spent all of her days on the beach with me in the sun

Its an addiction.....for me:sick:

I just used Neutrogena's spray tan and I didn't love it because I'm not coordinated enough to spray evenly. Everyone said it was better because it doesn't turn your hands orange. But I never had an orange hand problem with the lotion, you just need to wash right away.

The best was, I think, Jergen's gradual tan lotion. I liked the "gradual" part because you could see it appearing slowly and adapt how/where you applied the stuff.
