Now that I am going to be wearing a stark white gown, I am feeling rather pasty. Can anyone recommend a tanning salon close to WDW? I was warned that a spray tan could rub off on the gown and I do not want to chance it.

I would suggest going tanning locally BEFORE your trip to WDW. It takes most people a couple of weeks to develop a tan.

I would head to a local tanning salon about a month before your trip, and ask them what they have for specials for a month long package. The cheapest level bed or booth should be fine. I would go every day that month, or at least every other day. Take it slow at first-start out at only a couple of minutes the first time and gradually work yourself up to the full time allowed in the bed or booth, which will probably happen for you after 2 or 3 weeks. This way you won't get burnt.

Make sure you wear eye protection, and get a decent tanning lotion. I would NOT buy the tanning lotion from inside the salon as they charge CRAZY prices! Tanning salons will charge upwards of $60 for lotions that can be found for less than $20 elsewhere.

Oh, and yes, avoid the spray tan. Especially if this white dress you are talking about is your wedding dress. I've done the spray tan a few times and every time I have done it, I have been spotty and kind of orange and it has rubbed off on my clothes. I've learned my lesson though and won't do it anymore :)

I always go tanning this time of year before the summer starts so that I can jump start my tan for the summer since I have really fair skin and laying out in the sun just burns me and doesn't tan me. This way I can start out slow over the course of a month and avoid getting burnt. I know tanning isn't the healthiest thing ever, but we all have our vices and I limit mine to one month out of the year :P

Another option would be to use a sunless tanning lotion. They have formulations nowadays that do not turn your skin orange like they did years ago.

How pale are you? Be careful that "tanning" doesn't turn into "sunburn".

How about some powder bronzer for arms, chest (if exposed) and face? Much easier (better for your skin) and you can always add or remove. (can't really get rid of sunburn).

Congrats again!!

If you do use a tanning salon, you might ask about the UV lighting that is used. You want one that provides both UVA and UVB rays, as UVB is what your body uses for manufacturing vitamin D3, which has many health benefits associated with it, cancer prevention included. Most facilities though use mainly UVA ray which brings about a tan, but is associated with cancers and wrinkles.

Recall this article that might be helpful.

I bet Patricia Krentcil would know

:lmao: I didn't know her name but I knew exactly who you were talking about. :rotfl2: OMG, She looks horrible! I also think she is the reason for the new signs that say NO CHILDREN ALLOWED that are now on each door at my tanning place.

;)

In WDW? I think I know where you can tan. If you exit your hotel turn either right or left. Ok, you're there. :thumbsup2

I thought the same thing. It's Florida; it's not like there is a shortage of sun.

That said, *any* kind of deliberate tanning is the process of cooking your skin. It isn't ever good for your health, so it's always a vanity thing.

If you're pale like me be careful......I was in a wedding wearing a strapless dress, I had random multiple weird tan lines (from various bathing suits and tank tops) so I went tanning to help even them out a bit. I was in the booth for 5 minutes, yes, 5 minutes, and I BURNED!!!!! lol I tried a second time and yup, burned again. lol That was years ago but I decided then to never do it again. lol I'd rather be pale than burned...... :)

I spray tan all the time - the new stuff isn't orange. If you don't do it day off nothing should rub off on the dress. For a Sat - I would do an good quality DHA based airbrush tan on Thursday.

You can't walk around Florida topless! Well I guess you could but I would not recommend it. Giffy I would recommend starting at home and go a little bit at a time. Tell them if you have never been and make sure you do not stay in too long. You would look better pale than like a lobster in a wedding dress!

I bet you probably look fine just the way you are. Just wear a little bronzer!

Or go straight. :duck:

I second the people who have mentioned going tanning BEFORE you go. I'm a tanner, but will go weeks and weeks between a session, and sometimes *I* even will get a slight pinkness on my back, if it's been a long while. It's not a good idea to jump into it, right then and there.

I'd start about a month before, and work your way up from 10 to 15 to 20 minute sessions (Depending on the bed. There are some beds, which the maximum time is 12 minutes, anyways) - probably 2 or so, times a week.

I'd also get a lotion with a bronzer in it. No, no... not a bronzer.... a self tanner. They're about the same level of color as the Jergens one (gradual) but also has properties which will increase your melatonin productions, and vitamins and moisturizers, etc etc. I, personally, really like JWOWW's new line (By Australian Gold), believe it or not. :rotfl: It's obnoxiously priced in the salon, yet really well priced online: http://www.amazon.com/Australian-Gold-Bronzer-Tanning-Lotion/dp/B004FEKA3E ~ It's a good indoor lotion, as well as a nice self tanner. I do like it.

There's many places (LA Tan being one of them) that have days which are cheap days. LA Tan has $5 Tuesdays, for instance. Look around for a place which might run deals like this. :thumbsup2

I'm not anti-tan. I like having color AND it also helps (for me) with seasonal "I don't feel like getting out of bed" moods.

And as an FYI to the nay-sayers: Everything causes cancer. Everything and anything can and will cause cancer. Responsible tanning, not going crazy and being some kind of lunatic tanner, is not a one way ticket to a headstone.

I disagree. As I mentioned, it's excellent, and can be medically prescribed, for people with seasonal affective disorder, as well as medically prescribed for people with psoriasis.

And this is also an excellent option. :thumbsup2

My dd's BFF had to go tanning for treatment of her psoriasis.

I haven't read any of the other comments but I just started using an at-home spray tanner I bought at Sally's Beauty Supply. It works great and it doesn't stain clothing. :thumbsup2 It lasts for 7-10 days.
