I know this is for WDW and close areas but does anyone have recomendations for food in the Tampa area? We will be spending 2 or 3 days looking at houses near Tampa and would like to try some of the city's best.

Thanks

We have family in St Pete (which is right next door to Tampa), so we are there a couple times a year. I recommend 4th Street Shrimp Company, Red Mesa Cantina and Moon Under Water. There's also a GREAT gelato place called Paciugo. Hope this helps.;)

Columbia Restaurant.
:thumbsup2

Also Carmine's in Ybor City. Wright's Gourmet House has wonderful sandwiches and lemon cake (can eat there or get it as take-out if you're out househunting). Bern's Steakhouse is great(very expensive though).

Bern's Steakhouse. Expensive indeed, but amazing.

Bern's Steak house. Prices may seem high, but unlike most steakhouses that charge for all options, their meals include soup, salad and side dishes. Also, they have an incredible variety of wines and they have won the James Beard Wine Service Award (given only to one restaurant per year).

definitely Bern's Steakhouse but be sure to check out the menu and wine lists online first, they are huge!

Thank you all for your input. Anyone been to the Edison place? Will have to look into the steak house. We ave been wanting a good steak.

You'll definitely need reservations.

Do you mean the Edison home in Ft. Myers? A great place to visit if you have the time.

The Columbia in Ybor is a must. The Columbia at the Tampa Bay History Center is a nice place to eat outside, but they have a limited menu. There are many non-chain restaurants on South Howard. For breakfast, I like Daily Eats and Pinky's. Both have a diner like feel.

Columbia Restaurant.

I vote this too. It is in Ybor City. It is an absolutely beautiful restaurant, and the food is very good. If you go, try the house salad with garlic dressing. I dream about it;).

The Edison/ Ford Winter estates is a really beautiful place to visit, if you are here during the holiday season it is open some nights too. Very pretty!

My parents live in Ft Myers and we've done the Edison / Ford estate at Christmas. I'm in my mid twenties and I was definitely of the younger crowd. It's probably about 2 - 2 1/2 hours from Tampa.

I think Bern's is over-rated, and overpriced, it looks like a Vampire Bordello inside, that's the only thing that was amusing about it. If you must go there, I would recommend just going to their dessert room upstairs which is nice - but still expensive. I didn't like the taste of their filet mignon or their side dishes. If you don't like aged steaks, skip it. I would rather eat at Texas Cattle Company in St. Pete or Ruth's Chris Steak House in Tampa.

Moon Under Water was bad, awful actually, been once and won't go back.

Red Mesa has great food, which I hate to admit because they had terrible service, at least when we have been there. Seriously bad service, unprofessional staff, you would think with an empty restaurant with about 8 employees in the place you'd get served quickly - but no, they decide to all cook their own food (or order food from the kitchen, putting their orders ahead of ours) and have a party in the dining room while 2 of their maybe 4 paying customers have to wait and wait for their food to come out 45 mins after ordering.

We've been to 4th St. Shrimp company many times, it's decent, service is good.

If you are in St. Pete, try Three Ravens, they had very good food, I like their smoked pepper burger and sweet potato fries.

The Columbia Restaurant is nice, authentic food, delicious bread, love their salad.

There is also The Spaghetti Warehouse also in Ybor (pronounced "E-boar", just in case you are wondering, I've heard people call it "Why-boar"), used to go there all the time. The it's in an old warehouse, decorated with antiques. It's been there as long as I can remember. The food is good.

There are the usual chain places, like P.F. Changs, Maggiano's, Lee Roy Selmon's, Carrabba's, Cheesecake Factory, etc.

If you want to try Amish, there is Yoder's or Der Dutchman in Sarasota.

Ok, tons in Tampa. In fact, you probably can't drive 2 miles just about anywhere with out hitting a good place to eat.

I live closer to clearwater (about 20 west of Tampa) and the places in St. Pete folks mentioned are all great. Not sure how many of you there are or if you are adult only but here are a few options that are family friendly or more wallet friendly too.

At St Pete beach - The Hurricane. Great food with a fun beach flair.
Clearwater/St. Pete and Indian Rocks Beach: Crabby Bills. A local seafood favorite.

For Breakfast or Brunch: First Watch (locations in St Pete and Clearwater). Only thing to say: YUM.

Clearwater Beach: Frenchy's. There are 3 to choice from. Fun, funky bar-ish type food but good and right on the beach.

Indian Rocks Beach: Salt Rock Grill. (a little more pricey than the others mentioned but really good)

Enjoy.

here is another vote for Bern's steakhouse ::)) ybor city is a fun place to have a drink and walk around..

There are also a few First Watch in Tampa & one in Wesley Chapel.

I agree with Columbia Restaurant in Ybor. That location is the oldest restaurant in FL. Go when the businesses will be open & you have time to wander around & check out the area. It's a very hopping place most of the time. We like to go there on Christmas Day, but major holidays aren't a good time to see the rest of Ybor City, unless you're into ghost towns.

The suggestion to visit International Plaza & dine in one of their restaurants is also a good one, if you'll have time for touristy endeavors. They have an Earl of Sandwich. ;) There's plenty of choices for a nicer meal too.

Bonefish Grill is a step above most chain restaurants, if you don't have one where you currently live.

I don't remember seeing what area you'll be looking for housing in. That would help with restaurant suggestions for non-chain choices. Naturally, Tampa is like any major city where chain restaurants abound. Narrowing down the area you're most interested in could also cut down on the amount of time spent in a car. The greater Tampa area covers a lot of miles.

Thai Ruby is just wonderful.

Enjoy!
