According to the calculator on butterball.com, it will take 6 days to thaw a 24 lb turkey in the fridge. My 22 lb'er has been in the fridge since Saturday and is still as hard as a rock. So, I put it in a cold water bath for about an hour tonight to help the defrost process. That really helped a lot.I don't think I have a container big enough to brine the turkey. I may have an old "canner" in the basement. I have had the turkey in the refrigerator since Friday and its still pretty (mostly) frozen. How long to defrost a 24 pound turkey? I don't remember it taking this long?
For brining, I am using an old Gatorade water cooler that my husband used last spring while he was coaching. You know the kind with the spout. That way, it will be easier to clean out.
