Talk to me about Transatlantic Cruises.....

We're booked on the TA next May. I'm looking forward to a totally relaxing trip and a tour of Barcelona at the end.
Barcelona has some extraordinary architecture. I hope you enjoy it! We loved La Sagrada Familia, Casa Battlo and Parc Guell, in particular. We rode the funicular to Montjuic Castle and enjoyed that, too. What a view! There is also Tibidabo amusement park on a nearby mountain. We didn't have the chance to get there, but I've heard it's nice. Montserrat is close to Barcelona, too.

You’re all the way over in Europe. Don’t waste the travel time. Take a back to back cruise on dcl or another cruise line that week and do Italy. That’s what we did. It was so much fun!
We're doing a land tour of Italy next year. We did two weeks in Eastern Europe this year. We rotate land tours and cruises, my job doesn't give me enough time for 3 weeks of back to backs.

We're definitely going to La Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell, I'll check out Casa Battlo. We also plan on doing a cooking class and a sail boat ride to watch the sun set on the Med. ( Though I'll see if I end up doing that one as I just got off a ship).

We also travelled to Montserrat and wine country when we were in Barcelona after one of the TA Cruises. :thumbsup2

The other TA ended in Copenhagen, and then we flew Iceland Air and stayed in Iceland for a couple of nights.

This time we are spending time in Paris and Normandy before. I think TAs have been some of our best cruises!

I'm thinking I'd be in heaven. But folks around me say - too many days at sea, could make one a little stir crazy.

Thoughts?
You never really know until you try but sea days can be wonderful. As mentioned you can do as much or as little as you like since there is no rush to get off or back on the boat.

We are doing our first TA this fall but have done a number of longer cruises and we love the sea days. We have done 11, 12 day itineraries along with the Panama Canal. Since the sea days are lumped together on the TA hopefully the port days don’t feel too rushed.

The longer and more sea days is always better. (I can’t wait for our 14 day from Tokyo to Seattle on another line for that reason.). The Panama cruise really had probably the best balance since there were a couple of sea days on each end and usually at least one sea day between ports.

We did our first B2B cruise as a 10 night Med/14 night WBTA cruise. Just the perfect blend. First 10 days, 8 port stops, go, go, go. Next 14 days, 5port stops, lots of sea days to rest up.

I've done panama canal cruises 2x - and thought they were long (in a GOOD way - the longest vacations I've ever taken off work) - but I must say I am envious and look forward to the day when I can take a 24+ night vacation! :-)

My first Disney Cruise was a TA cruise and I loved it so much that I did a second TA a few years later. I enjoy the relaxation of longer cruises, being able to enjoy all the ship offerings, and the added events/tours they offer that they don't typically have on the shorter cruises. I also like that I feel I really get to know the crew and my fellow passengers and the only downside is having to leave and saying goodbye to everyone.

We did Montserrat in the June 14th cruise - it sailed from Civitavecchia to Civitavecchia. Monterserrat was breathtaking. The lunch they served us - not so much - it was HORRIBLE. I gave that feedback to Port Adventures - was hoping for a little credit - it was $369 a person! But nothing......

It also included a stop to a winery - that was sweet - 3 wine tastings and a small brunch.

I haven't done a transatlantic (on my list though) but we are booked on the 14 night Panama Canal cruise next spring and I am very much looking forward to all the sea days.

Maybe I need to look into the Panama Canal cruise!

We did our first Transatlantic cruise last fall and as someone who likes being busy all the time I did worry about feeling "cooped up" on the ship for multiple days in a row. In the end, I found the sea days to be strangely relaxing. I always like to be going somewhere, but since the ship was already going somewhere for us, it sort of gave me the freedom I needed to really relax and unwind.

One issue we did have with the westbound was the time change. My husband and I loved having the extra hour almost every day, but for my 8 and 9 year old it just meant that they woke up earlier and earlier as the cruise went along. We'd see the notice that we were going back another hour and we'd look at each other and say, "but they already woke up at 5 this morning!". It's probably a good thing that we won't be able to do another until the kids are out of school because it would be much more relaxing with just adults.

We're recently back from our longest cruise yet - 28 nights Hawaii/Tahiti round trip out of San Diego.

Transatlantic Cruises are awesome! My family has done four of them Port Canaveral-Barcelona, Galveston to Barcelona, Port Canaveral to Dover, Barcelona to Port Canaveral. The activities on the ship are unlimited and it is really the ultimate in relaxation. Of course, my family absolutely loves sea days. The biggest decision you have to make is what to wear for dinner....lol. I highly recommend them!

We just finished the EBTA in May for the first time and we have to say it was our favorite cruise of all 15 we have taken with DCL.. So much fun! So smooth, too. But that can vary from year to year. Were bummed to see next year’s EBTA cut short by a day or two with less ports. Also, the same ports, which is a bummer. I would have liked to see them go to Funchal, Gibraltar, Morocco, and possibly the Canary Islands.
