We are REALLY missing WDW lately. Our last trip was too short & stressful (after a DCL cruise) and I got some bad news :sad2: (I lost my job as a school social worker for next school year) while there so the whole trip had a damper on it.

We weren't planning to go again until Christmas but I started checking airfare, availability, etc...one thing lead to another and now we're considering a mid-August trip.

DH says we can afford it but I still feel guilty :guilty: planning a trip when I don't have a job yet (though I've heard that I may get called back to my old job). I know every day I wait to book the airfare price may go up or DVC availability may disappear.

I don't know what to do. So dear DISFriends...talk me into it.

OK, I'll give it a shot: You left WDW on a less-than-Magical note. You need to re-associate Disney w/ that Magic so that you're remembering w/ fondness rather than a damper. Plus, about mid-August the crowds begin to thin! (Although it is stinkin' hot.) I say do it. It'll give you something to look forward to, and, who knows, maybe you'll get good news about your job while you're there! That would wipe out that damper. Make the reservtion now!

I have a history teaching in public schools, and there were years that all teachers got notices that they wouldn't be returning. Such distress and anxiety these notices caused. Many times, the positions were reinstated and I sure hope and pray that that happens to you. Meanwhile concentrate on the things you can do, and if the trip is possible, I would take it.

Best wishes!

My wife went through the same thing every year as a teacher and every year she got her job back. It seems they are always scrambling every year when school begins to fill the positions. It took us a while but we learned not to let things bother us and just trust in the Lord.

When you work in the schools you are restricted by the school calendar so if you don't go now you will not be able to go for a while.

Life can be a struggle but never stop living.

I think that in a time as difficult and stressful as this, it is even more important to continue to do the things that make you happy. So, if the trip won't cause any more difficulties, I would definitely say go for it. Enjoy the time with your family, and make memories that will last long after the stress of this time period has faded. Have a great time! :thumbsup2

If you can afford it you should go. You have to live your life and find ways to enjoy it regardless of the bumps in the road.

I am an Alternative Teacher at a comprehensive high school and every year my job may not be funded. At first I stressed and stalked the admin team until a decision was made. Now as I am getting ready to start year 8 I have learned that something almost always comes through in the school system. One year I had a split job. And I know a few other teachers who are a .2 this and a .4 that and a .4 something else but added together they are full time the just fill out 3 different timesheets. Try not to stress.

As for going on the trip in August I say do it. There is nothing better then going home and de-stressing before the start of a school year. I am guessing as a social worker you see some of the crazy and heart breaking things I do, (my certification is in counseling and my degrees are psychology, counseling and juvenille justice) You need this trip to help you relax and prepare yourself for whatever lies ahead.

Your husband says you can afford it!!!!! Go, have a fabulous time and create great memories without stress. :goodvibes
