Well, I'll have been home for a week come 11 pm, and I figure it's time to stop living in denial. Vacation is over. First thing's first, start the trip report. I'll get to unpacking my luggage later on.

Cast of characters:

See that blob third row back screaming her head off? Yup, that's me, Merideth. I'm the one that hates thrill rides.

Right next to me, that's Adison. My little 3 year old. She hates the dark but loves the drops.

And Mike, he'll try anything.

Oh, and that chick in the front row. I don't know her, but it looks like she really likes Splash.

Together we made it through all 4 parks plus Sea World in 9 days. No day of rest. No naps in the room. Extra Magic Hours all around. With lots of band aids, a misting fan, and $25 worth of unused ponchos, we made our way through the world together. Stay tuned for our story..and pictures. Did I mention the pictures? I have over 4500 to sort through, I'll try not to post them all :)

Looking forward to it! I'm taking my three kiddos commando and I'm anxious to see how it worked out for you :)

I have to apologize upfront, despite my bazillions of pictures, there are literally zilch of our travel! It was simply too much of a pain to drag out my camera while trying to wrangle carry ons and a 3 year old! I promise, as soon as we hit WDW, pictures galore!

Day 1 of our vacation started off early. Very early. Very very very early.

Our flight was scheduled to take off from Albany International Airport at 7:05 am. Being non frequent flyers, we really wanted to get there early "just in case," so we got up at the crack of dawn.

My mom had slept over the night before, because she was our ride to the airport. We all got up, Mike & my mom drank a pot of coffee and somehow I missed my chance at getting a single cup! :confused3

We packed up our mini van, gathered last minute things we needed to pack up (phone chargers and such), and hit the road by 5 am. We made quick time to the airport (we live close by), and headed straight to have our luggage weighed. We were flying Southwest, so our bags flew free! Love that feature! As we waited in line, my excitement was starting to build already. All around us were families embarking on their Disney World vacations! Little girls ran around dressed up as princesses, parents donned their Mickey tees..it was really a fun atmosphere, especially considering that waiting in line is typically pretty mundane.

The line moved quickly, and pretty soon we were off to our gate. Next up, security...this is where the real fun began! We all loaded our belongings up in the trays to be scanned, took off our shoes and tried to forget about all of the foot fungi likely to be lurking on the carpet we were standing on! Albany International is not a hopping place to be at 5:30 am, so we moved through the security line very quickly. I went through the metal detector first, and of course it beeped. Not for metal, though - it was the super special pat down beep. Lucky me!

I was escorted into a clear glass booth and locked in alone. Adison went through the detector next, without incident. She immediately ran to me in the booth, and tried to join me. Of course, this is not allowed, it is much more logical to have a 3 year old running around by herself than to allow her to reunite with her parent! Mike went through the detector and beeped. He had forgotten his belt, of course. So he goes through again and beeps. Keys in his pocket. Again. Beeps. Who knows what he was holding this time, I had my eyes on my now crying child, who was confused and running between me in the booth and Mike, who just kept beeping.

Finally after what seemed like ages, but was likely only a minute or so, a TSA agent joined me in the booth. Mike was rid of all of his metal and allowed to pass through. Adison was reunited with Mike and the agent explained the pat down procedure to me and made sure I wasn't carrying any bombs, guns or whatever else.

The actual pat down was a breeze. The agent was respectful, explained each step as she completed it, and I didn't feel violated at all. I do wish that they had a better system for people with children, but as far as how I was personally treated, I was impressed.

By the time my pat down was done, Mike had gathered our belongings from the trays and we decided to grab a quick breakfast at McDonald's. We ordered, scarfed down our food, and it was time to head to the gate!

When we arrived, they were in the process of boarding...we got on the plane quickly, and it was a full flight! There were no 2 seats together, much less room for all 3 of us. A flight attendant asked if anyone would move so Adison could sit with a parent, and a nice gentleman quickly forfeited his seat, so Adison & I were able to sit together. Mike was seated several rows ahead of us..not the optimal situation, but at that point I was just happy that Adison wasn't stuck sitting next to 2 complete strangers. We were seated next to a pleasant woman who made conversation with us until take off and then slept through much of the flight. Perfect flying partner

The flight went quickly. Snacks and drinks kept Adison busy, and when she got bored, she discovered that moving her tray up and down repeatedly was great fun. Just when I was contemplating ripping the tray off and tossing it out the nearest window, it was announced that we were in final descent! We landed at MCO a full 40 minutes early!

Up Next: Where is DME? Will we ever make it to meet the mouse?

That must've been hard seeing your DD trying to get to you and not being able to go after her. Someone should've realized she was all by herself waiting for your DH.

I"m glad the 'pat down' was not invasive, just a pain!

Can't wait to see where DME takes you!

Hi Merideth! I finally found your TR and I'm here for all of the adventures. I can't wait to hear more about your trip! :goodvibes

wow, sounds like you had a very ambitious schedule! We had a similar one to start, but by the end of the week I had some travel companions give up!

I completely know what you mean about walking barefoot at the airport. It grosses me out! I had never really thought about what they do with the children if you have to get the patdown. You are right. They need a better system.

My 2 year old thought the tray was the most fun toy ever too. I felt really bad for the man in front of us!

Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures!

You would think they would come up with a better system for people with small children.

When I last updated, oh..2 months ago  , we had just landed at MCO.
We got off of our plane and immediately we noticed the differences between Albany International Airport and MCO. First, Albany was dead as a doornail and MCO was quite busy! Second, wow was it hot! Mike & I both wondered aloud if they had forgotten to turn on the AC that morning!
Here's our little darling (ooh how I wish she would just leave the shoes on!)
285666_10150236363522587_693687586_7771199_8190629_n.jpg

We made our way to the first restroom that we could find and took turns chasing Adison & using the restrooms, then made our way to DME..or so we thought! :confused3

Apparently we made a wrong turn somewhere and we ended up in the completely wrong spot. We wandered without direction for a bit, and finally asked directions. An employee at MCO was kind enough to show us where we needed to go, and we were on our way again.

When we finally did find DME, we were quickly sent to stand in line. We must have waited about 10 minutes for a bus to arrive to pick us up, and that time just flew by. I noticed that a family ahead of us in line was all dressed in matching Minnie outfits - that was something that I noticed pretty often during our stay. I have never seen so many well-dressed children in one place! I actually remember thinking several times to myself that it felt like I was really at home - I am admittedly a baby-clothes addict, and spend a lot of time planning out and purchasing Adison's outfits, so I just loved seeing all of the little children all decked out! :cloud9:

Anyway, random side notes about clothing aside, DME arrived quickly and we were ushered toward a shuttle - only it was the wrong shuttle! Apparently we had been placed in the wrong line accidentally. No worries, a friendly CM quickly figured out where we had to be and got us onto another bus that happened to have arrived at the same time.

After I snapped a quick pic of the bus, we boarded and were settled into our seats on the bus and pretty quickly we were headed toward WDW!
285121_10150236363612587_693687586_7771202_420907_n.jpg

Again, this time passed by quickly. We enjoyed the view out of our windows for a while - nothing too exciting, mostly palm trees and various housing developments, but sometimes it is just fun to soak in the sights of some place a little different than home!

The welcome video played, and before we knew it we were headed straight onto Disney property. I think we were too far back in the bus to get a photo of the arches as we entered the property, so I guess a blurry shot of the entrance to CBR will have to do!

The CBR guests piled off of the bus, and finally we were headed to our final destination..our home for 8 nights & 9 days...

Up next - Check-in & the magic begins!

I left off with our arrival at Pop! We took a few minutes to look around at the entrance and get our bearings, and then quickly headed into Classic Hall to check in. We waited in the queue for only a minute or so and were called up to the desk. I hadn't placed any room requests prior to arriving, but I did ask at the desk if we could be placed in a 1st floor room. I just thought it would be easier with wrangling the stroller and everything!

The CM took a minute on his computer, and produced our room keys! I was surprised, as I was fully expecting to have to wait until the much later check in time (we had arrived at Pop at approximately 12:30 pm). The surprise was definitely a pleasant one, though! We were to be staying in the 90's..I could swear that I took a picture of our room number, but it's nowhere to be found! Well, anyway, we were in the 90s and about a 20 second walk from the Computer Pool! I loved our location for it's proximity to the pool, though I can see the benefit of being closer to Classic Hall as well.

I also mentioned that we had listed our anniversary and Adison's first visit on our reservation, but the CM didn't see that note..no worries, he quickly produced 2 anniversary pins and a first visit pin.

We walked over to our room and were greeted by a little puppy in the window!
249437_10150191109992587_693687586_7355156_769912_n.jpg

In fact, all of the rooms at Pop had dogs in the windows..this provided a lot of early morning entertainment each morning,as we would walk past the windows, Adison would exclaim about the expressions on their faces!

The room was sufficient for a value hotel..I have to say it was pretty much what I expected! I liked the theming a lot! Some hotels have pretty garish bedding, but Pop's bedding was pretty subdued in my opinion. We had 2 double beds, a small table with 2 chairs, a vanity area and small bathroom with shower/tub and a toilet. Nothing extravagant, but still a clean, well kept area to sleep. The only minor annoyance was that it is somewhat difficult to actually get in the room! When you walk in the door, you are face to face with one of the beds. This might not seem like a problem, until you try to walk in the door with a stroller! This was not a big deal, and certainly didn't ruin our experience in the least, just thought it was worth mentioning that it takes some maneuvering to actually get in the room!

We dropped our carry on luggage in the room and quickly changed into warm weather clothing. We then spent several minutes trying to get Adison to tell us where she was...this trip was a surprise for her, and I don't think it had quite sunken in yet. We finally got her to say we were in Disney, but still, I don't think she understood exactly what that meant, despite having watched numerous videos of the parks on youtube!

After we had changed, we had a quick discussion about where to eat - we had planned to either eat at Pop or at a CS in MK..we were definitely hungry, but decided that we just could not wait to get our vacation really started, so off to MK it was!

Of course, we couldn't help but stop along the way to check out some of the huge colorful icons at our resort!
254649_10150191110892587_693687586_7355173_7539750_n.jpg

I was also impressed by all of the flowers all over the resort. I guess I hadn't expected Disney to put quite so much work into a value resort, however I am glad that they do..the details are what makes the entire property special!
247369_10150191110792587_693687586_7355172_550482_n.jpg

Adison played a quick game of Foosball...
255530_10150191111092587_693687586_7355176_8270789_n.jpg

And before we knew it, we were boarding the bus to Magic Kingdom!
252703_10150191111407587_693687586_7355181_7314721_n.jpg

The bus ride went by pretty quickly, and soon we had arrived...our vacation was about to begin!

OH good, still on page one. Your title grabed my attention but was thinking to skip being a couple months behind, but it looks like life gets in your way of updating. First your little girl is adorable. As for pat downs in airports I will always get one. The first time was the weekend they started them. I didn't know I was suppose to have felt violated till I got home. As for letting them letting your daughter with no one that is just wrong. So glad you are staying at Pop. My daughter and I will be there in Sept and plan on going commando. Now my daughter 18 so might be a little easier (as long as she gets out of bed). Can't wait to read more.

Yay! I'm glad to see you back with an update! Love your POP arrival photos! It always looks so bright and cheery there! :goodvibes
Thanks! We are actually starting to plan next year's trip, and it put me right in the mood to talk about all the fun we had this year!

more please!
I have a new update coming right up :)

Great start!! Looks like a fun trip!
It was awesome! Thanks :)

Ha, life got in the way is right! And thank you for complimenting my daughter! It's funny that you didn't know to feel violated until after the fact, when I was patted down, I was like "really? that's it?" I thought it just HAD to be much worse, after the FAA getting so much flack for their system! :confused3

When I left off, we were just arriving at the Magic Kingdom for a first time as a family (Mike had been to wdw twice prior to this trip & I had been once, it was Adison's first visit).
252779_10150191111707587_693687586_7355186_7991639_n.jpg

What a beautiful sight!

There were people bustling around, but I was relieved to see that it wasn't overly busy.
254887_10150191111787587_693687586_7355187_2751001_n.jpg

I love the entrance! If I ran the world, I would have every other frame have a video screen playing various clips from families' personal Disney videos - how cute would that be? But, since I don't run the world, it's pictures rather than video, and it is a great display nonetheless!
249295_10150191111902587_693687586_7355188_570747_n.jpg

Adison was still pretty confused as to what exactly was going on..I think she knew something fun was in store, but she really didn't fully grasp the fact that we were IN Disney World and about to enter MK.
251493_10150191112197587_693687586_7355191_3459765_n.jpg

We had watched countless videos on youtube of various rides, character interactions, shows, etc...so she definitely was familiar with all that the World had to offer, but I guess it is one of those things that you have to live to really 'get.'

We finally had taken enough pictures of the entrance, and it was time to hit Main Street USA!
We walked just a short bit and instantly we could see the castle in front of us!
250118_10150191113042587_693687586_7355204_6691660_n.jpg

Adison's first reaction appeared to be bewilderment!
250715_10150191112782587_693687586_7355199_7598857_n.jpg

But after realizing what she was looking at, it turned to happiness and wonder!
253643_10150191112832587_693687586_7355200_7606528_n.jpg

We excitedly looked around, and (thanks to the Dis :goodvibes ) I knew right where to go for our first fast passes, so we grabbed a set for the Mickey & Minnie character greeting. I had to explain the entire fast pass concept to Mike...yes, it does say return between 2 specific times, but we can return any time after the start of the 'return time' listed. He was skeptical, but I assured him that I had done all of the research and I knew what I was talking about!
254911_10150191114622587_693687586_7355226_4134665_n.jpg

We were starving by that point, so we consulted our map and quickly headed toward Columbia Harbor House.
Of course, I couldn't help but snap a few pictures on the way there.

Dream along with Mickey...We never did get to see that show..I'm adding that to my mental to-do list for 2012!

We finally made it to CHH, and instantly I was impressed yet again by the theming. I have to say, Disney really outdoes themselves over and over when it comes to the theming of their resorts, parks and restaurants. I love that a fast food joint is never just a fast food joint when you are in WDW!
254156_10150191114192587_693687586_7355219_7188927_n.jpg

It was rather crowded in CHH, but again thanks to the Dis, I knew to look up for a cool quiet place to eat..so look up we did, and the upper level seating was nearly empty! Score! It was definitely nice to have a sort of hidden away area to eat our meal in peace - we were very excited to be in WDW, but at the same time it can be a lot to take in all at once, especially for a toddler. Taking a minute to find a table off the beaten path can make the difference between meal-time being enjoyable or an absolute disaster!

Adison had macaroni & cheese along with some Mickey grapes & carrot sticks and (I think) an apple juice.
252597_10150191114332587_693687586_7355222_5506989_n.jpg

Mike had something fried...was it fish & chips..chicken fingers??
251271_10150191114387587_693687586_7355223_3251039_n.jpg

I am positive that I had the Lighthouse Sandwich - again, I had read about this on the Dis and chose CHH specifically for that sandwich!

Mike said his food was ok..nothing special, but still tasty. My sandwich was really good - the bread's crust tasted a little stale, however otherwise it was great! We both enjoyed our little apple turnovers for dessert. Adison was apparently disinterested, because she took one bite and promptly fell asleep on the bench!

We let her sleep a bit while we ate, then woke her up to get a little bit of food in her belly. She did end up eating all of her grapes and carrots and about half of her mac & cheese, along with a few bites of our dessert as well.

Satisfied that she had eaten a decent lunch, we headed back downstairs and out into the Florida heat, anxious for the real fun to begin.

Up next, who was it that scared Adison on that scary ride??

I'm interrupting my TR to share something exciting...we are currently in the beginning stages of planning our May 2012 vacation!
So far I am thinking of May 7-15. We have already invited our moms to go with us next year, and my current train of thought is leading us to a 1 bedroom at AKL Kidani Village! Of course, less than a week ago I had my heart set on Boardwalk Villas, and the week before that I was in love with Bay Lake Tower..so I'm sure you can tell, this is all very up in the air still!

Wherever we stay, we most likely will be renting DVC points..I have done the math for several different scenarios, and so far all roads lead to DVC being the most economical choice, as well as offering us nice extras like in-room laundry, full kitchen, etc. It doesn't hurt that the DVC resorts are all gorgeous!

With this in mind, I am toying with the idea of a PTR...I am not sure if I should start a new one, or just put it in this thread. On one hand, it would be so simple to build our future plans on this year's memories! On the other, I might very well end up confusing myself by blending 2 trips in one thread.

Either way, WDW 2012 here we come! :cloud9:

yeah! i'm glad that you got checked in and to MK with no issues! Your daughtere's first view of the castle was priceless! I love CHH! good choice! Congrats on a future trip!

Your daughter is so cute. My dh questions everything I tell him that I read from here, one day they will trust us. Planing your next trip thats great. I currantly have my trip in Sept then am working on our trip for 2014. All I know for that one is hubby is saying cabins and for two weeks. Will have to see what comes about. Fun knowing that the end is just a new begining.
