we'll be sailing on the 7day eastern carr. cruise in april, my daughter wants to irish dance for the talent show. My question is should i pack her shoes or is this something that is not worth going to? :rockband: :flower:

I've never seen the talent show, but I would be THRILLED to see someone do Irish dancing! If you have room in your suitcase, I say pack the shoes!

Pack the shoes! We went to the family talent show on our recent cruise because some children in our group were in it. It is fun and a nice showcase of talent. It usually happens between dining times so it can make early dining a little rushed (we skipped out on dessert so we wouldn't miss the show) but it was worth it.

thats the one we'll be on. I can't wait to get to some warm weather

The talent show is a lot of fun. It is not advertised a lot, so you might miss it if you didn't know about it. Watch your navigator to announce sign ups for the family talent show. They have a notebook at the shore excursions desk where you sign up and let them know what you plan to do. They can provide a mic, piano (keyboard) or play a cd for you. The day before the show they have a short rehearsal (again you have to watch your navigator) where everyone runs through their talent. We had some dancers, (one had recently come in 2nd at a dance competition and was really good) an irish dancer, and an irish dancing group of 3. My 12 year old DD sang and played the piano, their was another little boy singing (cute) a group of 3 that sang and acted out rockin around the christmas tree and a cute little girl that hula hooped to music. The show itself was at 7:30 and was no longer than a half hour. They don't receive anything for doing it, which I thought was kind of wierd, since the show itself was very entertaining and well-attended. I thought that they might get at least a participation certificate to commerate their performance, but they didn't. This is the same ship that gave two pins to someone everyday to come up for 1 minute and check that all the bingo balls were there. I would have thought since these kids gave up their time to rehearse and perform they could have gotten a little something, but that is just my two cents! Let us know how your talent show goes!

They also provide a person from the ship who plays the piano on board. So bring piano music if you want an accompanist. Also, the guy in the booth will take your CD and you can use that. Two of the staff from the cruise directors staff played host and hostess.

My only suggestion....go prepared and take whatever you need. We did for my 12 year old daughter who regularly sings and dances in public. Many of the kids who went had never performed before and wanted to sing a song but brought no music for the accompanist and then said to him "Can you write the words down, we don't know the words of the song." Just remember, Disney let everyone that came to the rehearsal perform whether they were talented or not. It's in the Rockin Bar D so it wasn't a big deal and the place was full with family and friends.

We went to cheer for a DISer's son who was playing the piano. It was very cute. We were happy to be part of his rooting section.

They do have a printout with the performer's names on it. We made certain to give ours to his family as an extra little souvenir of his time in the spotlight. :D
